Yes I know quite well how she was in gen 3. I'm not surprised they changed her personality since they do that about every generation or so.

"Rainbow Dash always dresses in style". G3 Rainbow Dash. Just . Now I kinda feel bad for G4 Rainbow Dash in a weird way. Still I don't like her 'arrogant with a heart of gold' personality. Just hate those types of characters in general.

LOL, I've never really watched the old generations, but the apparent difference between RD alone is absurd:D

Yes I knew that generation 3 Rainbow Dash loved to dress up and everything was rainbows darling, but there was a generation 3 Rarity as well who was a princess the personalities and colors are completely different though, but sure Rarity would love to be royalty.

I suppose it depends on which G3 Rainbow Dash. I notice, the Rainbow people usually talk about is the Core 7 version. Her personality differs between the first G3 (The movie series) and the Core 7 (the shorts with the intro).

 

The first Rainbow Dash might be neat and proper, but she does not "always dresses in style". That would be the Core 7 Rainbow. And unlike her Core 7 counterpart, Rainbow Dash in first G3 kinda plays older role among the citizens (minus Kimono, of course) and kinda seem like she has seen more part of the world than her fellow friends. I see it as a bit like G1's Wind Whistler. In addition to that, the first G3 Rainbow Dash is less "girly", in contrary to the Core 7 version of herself, who cares and put a whole lot more effort in being fashionable and stylish.

I believe she also plays like the most caring role in Ponyville, leading to her tendency to call fer friends "darling". I also believe her passion for rainbows is more than just a love for it. Maybe some sort of connection leading to her cutiemark. The concept of Cutiemarks in the older Generations is still a bit unclear to me.

 

So yes, there are still undeniable differences between the first G3 and Friendship is Magic Rainbow Dashes but there are also differences between the two G3 Rainbows. 

 

Hope this is not too confusing. To put it simply, all three mentioned versions of Rainbow Dashes are different. G3: Neat, Proper, caring but not too styled and also adventurous; G3 Core 7: Super fashionable pony who "always dresses in style" (she sounds different by the way); FiM: I do believe we all know her.

 I grew up watching generation 3 mlp and when I first got onto mlp friendship is magic I was surprised how much rainbow had changed, but I love her all the same if not more!

This got me crazy tbh. Rainbow was always my favourite pony. In the English dub she always said "Darling", which is in Dutch "M'n Liefjes". So whenever I came into the classroom as kid, I flipped my hair and shouted "Mn LIEFJES".
So when I watched FiM for the first time, I was shocked. Then teared between Rarity and Rainbow as fav. But in the end my love for Rainbow is too big. So yeah XD
