Rose signed with relief that he match was over and hopped off the stage. She nodded to Jade in thanks, then took a step into collapsing face down into the grass.

Tatterhoof used his cane to stand up on his hind hooves. "Let's see how long you can keep up." He said, his eyes shifting to the crowd. "Look at that, they're practically glued to their seats."

"It's captain versus captain," Tricis announced, "Begin!"

Tatterhoof used his cane to stand up on his hind hooves. "Let's see how long you can keep up." He said, his eyes shifting to the crowd. "Look at that, they're practically glued to their seats."

"It's captain versus captain," Tricis announced, "Begin!"

Jade raised her head and looked at Tatterhoof's stance. She drew her sword from her back and placed the tip on the ground, leaning her front hooves on the hilt, imitating his pose.

She looked right in his eyes and smirked. "I can do that too."

Tatterhoof clicked a switch on the side of his cane. The microphone at the end flipped inside of the base and was replaced with a clear gem. With three hooves planted on the ground, he lifted the cane with one leg as a clear yellow aura swirled around the audience. There were bright sparkles and whisps swirling in the strange light show, and it was surrounding everyone watching the fight, including Tricis' own team.

"Just look at how captivated they are. Entertainment like this is wasted potential, don't you think? Just look at how much energy they're creating!" He tapped the cane on the ring and the yellow aura coming from the crowd started to swirl around, it formed a conical shape and funneled into Tatterhoof's cane, making the gem glow intensely

 

"I don't believe it!" Topaz commented, "If I'm hearing this correctly, Tatterhoof just turned an abstract concept like entertainment into energy! If anyone here is a magic professor, now would be a good time to explain this to me!"

Jade watched the energy swirl around the arena and into Tatterhoof's cane. And Topaz's commentary is when it hit her.

That's why he wanted a show. His power is fuelled by the audience!

She internally facehoofed. Tricis was right; she was played. But she'd have to make the most of it.

If I can get them to boo him...

She backflipped to give herself some room, and sheathed her sword.

Jade spread her wings and shot up into the air, performing a small loop-the-loop and going higher. She halted in the air and arched back, spinning and rolling during her decline.

Dynamo nodded in return to Jade's reply. "You're welcome." He watched as Jade flipped through the air and landed in the ring with style. He whistled in amazement at how she made her dynamic entrance. "That was not half bad. Now that's how you make an entrance." He says as Rose made her way back to the team. "You did an awesome job in the match, Rose. It was cool how you made that scythe, as well as how you used the power of shadows. You have to tell us how you did that move sometime." He stopped as he watched Rose had collapsed to the ground and passed out. He couldn't help, but chuckle slightly. He couldn't blame his teammates actions. After seeing what had happened during the match, the fight must have taken a lot out of her. The blue unicorn decided to turn his attention back towards his captain's fight. 'Okay. If I recall, Jade was trained by our coach, Tricis. I guess we'll get to find out how strong our captain is.' He thought as the match was about to begin.

As the match got started, Dynamo watched as Tatterhoof raised the hoof in his cane into the air. Suddenly, he noticed the entire audience section of the arena had begun to glow yellow. The glow had sparkles and whisps as it looked like Tatterhoof was putting on a light show. Dynamo jumped a little in surprise as he and his team were the same as the audience. As the gem began to glow intensely, the blue unicorn had to shield his eyes with his arm. The glow from the gem started to lessen, but the effects were still present. He was trying to figure out what Tatterhoof was talking about. 'Entertainment to make others captivated? He's looking for energy from those, who are captivated in the show?' His eyes widened as realization had hit him. "Hey, coach! Is this guy's ability is to gather energy from the audience? Meaning, those who are entertained are giving him the power for the cane?" He asks as saw Tatterhoof create a burning blue ring and hurled it at Jade. "So, the gem is his source of strength? The gem creates whatever magic spell or ability he needs. Would he lose all of his power if taken away, or if the gem was destroyed?" He pondered as he tried to figure out how to help his captain win.

We're two points ahead... if I can at least defeat him in battle, it won't matter how flashy he is.

She zigzagged toward Tatterhoof and went for a sweeping kick toward his cane. If she can get it away from him, it might make it a more fair fight.

"Probably, but breaking something like that isn't going to be easy. His power isn't unlimited even with it, but if Jade is still at the same level she was when I last trained her, she isn't going to match up." Tricis explained.

The earth pony held his ground as Jade approached. When she wound up for the kick, he jumped forward while swinging the cane back to clip her on the back of the head. He landed with a roll to gain more distance from her.

 

"If she has improved, it hasn't been with how predictably she fights," Tricis added.

 

"Come on now, You must have more tricks to pull!" Tatterhoof taunted. He swung his cane in the air and it formed a yellow spectral whip out of the tip. Smacking it against the arena floor, it created a crack in the concrete.

Jade rolled forward to lessen the pressure of the strike, and turned to face Tatterhoof. She felt a chill seeing the whip's impact on the ring floor.

"You would use such weapons on an unarmed opponent?" she asked, smirking at him. "I thought you were a gentlepony."

If I can affect his focus somehow...

The crowd started to chant in unison, nearly everyone shouting at the same time, "Kill Lotus! Kill Lotus! Kill Lotus!" It was hard to tell how genuine they were beings. Some of them sounded like they were just in the moment. Others sounded like they meant it.

 

The stallion beside Rail was chanting it as well, much to Rail's silent annoyment. "Kill Lotus! Kill Lotus... KILL LOTUS!"

 

"Now if you aren't planning on ditching your chains, let's get this done quickly." the ringleader said before springing into the air with his whip-cain ready and swinging the whip at her. Even if she had her sword drawn, parrying wouldnt be an option since his whip could hit multiple contact points at once.

Dynamo sighed as Tatterhoof dodge and counterattack Jade. "I guess it's easier said than done. He doesn't look like the type of pony to drop his cane. That, and he probably doesn't let that cane out of his sight. Unless he can either teleport or magically get the can back into his possession." He says, before slightly glancing over to Tricis. "You said that you trained Jade, right? I think I remember hearing about that when we all met each other yesterday. How did you two meet? How long did you train her in the art of combat?" He asks, while raising an eyebrow. He wondered if the coach could help him in perfecting his trouble with magic. He knew a little about magic, but it seemed there was more to magic than meets the eye.

The blue unicorn gulped audibly as he saw Tatterhoof's cane turn into a spectral whip. Just seeing the ground crack from the arena floor was enough to be worried and concerned. "It's like he can turn the cane into anything he wants. Just so long as he has the power from the audience to do so." He growled as he could hear the audience in the background chanting in unison. "It'd be a lot easier to take the mic from Topaz and tell them all to be quiet. Sure, I can understand that they don't like us. However, this is just getting way out of hand. I wonder if they even realize that they're helping Tatterhoof?" He asks as Tatterhoof got into his stance to continue the fight.

Jade darted her eyes around to the audience for a second. She didn't really appreciate how thirsty they were for her blood.

She darted and rolled to the side to avoid the whip's crash.

I shouldn't try to parry that whip, she thought. Even with my sword, it's much too powerful.

"You need a fancy toy to defeat a pony using only her hooves," she called back, "and I'm the one with chains?"

I need to counterattack at some point, but if I can get him to lose his focus, I can move in with some strikes of my own.

"About six months. In that time she learned a lot more than she's showing now. I still had a lot to teach her, but she learned faster than I ever could have hoped. As for how I met her, that's a long story. You should as her some time."

"Fine then, if you won't take me seriously!" Tatterhoof grunted. The tip of his whip was laying on the ground next to Jade. With a surge of energy, it grew longer as Tatterhoof pulled it up. The whip curled around itself, forming a lasso loop at the end, then tightened around Jade's left front leg as he pulled it up. A surge of electric energy traveled from the whip into her leg.

He swung his cane up, causing Jade to be lifted a few feet in the air by the rope as electrical energy surged through her body, causing a constant surge of pain. "Youre the team captain right? Let's see your powers!" He goaded before swinging the whip down to send Jade crashing back into the ring.

Tatterhoof felt a jolt go through his body and stopped surging electricity through the whip as soon as he realized what was happening. The spectral whip retracted back into his cane. He squatted and rolled to get Jade off his back, and then squared off with her again, sweat dripping from his brow. "An interesting gambit, Jade, even I wouldn't have thought to link our bodies together to surge the energy to me." He said, dusting off his coat. "but like a true amateur, you failed to take advantage of the situation. You didn't get the cane. A mistake that will prove fatal, because I'm not putting my guard down again."

Tatterhoof cocked an eyebrow with a smirk. "You'd be best giving up now. You think a normal pony could endure that kind of pain and stay conscious? Your body has been using up your magic well just to repair your injuries! Even if you wanted to use your powers now I doubt you could."

"He may be right about her being an amateur, but he's still wrong about her." Tricis commented. "His perception of Jade is limited by what he expects. In a normal pony, sure, her energy would be drained by that kind of pain, so that's what Tatterhoof sees. But Jade's a unique case. Her magic responds to desperation by getting stronger. She could win, if she'd start using that energy."

Jade hopped off Tatterhoof's back, flipping and landing on her hooves to square off with him again.

"What, and leave you without your crutch?" she said with a smirk, flicking strands of mane from her face. "But, if you really want to see a trick, I can oblige."

She took a deep breath and calmed her thoughts, closing her eyes. The air began to swirl around all four hooves, each having a faint aura of green flow around it. The auras grew stronger and more fiery.

She took a stomp forward and lifted her leg, revealing a hoof-shaped indent in the ring.

The technique Master Tricis taught me might be what I need here, but I can't use too much at once... but maybe my new spin on it might change things.

She lifted her other fiery hoof, giving Tatterhoof a "Bring it" gesture.

Tatterhoof put his cane out as a shield, holding it in both hooves. Sparks flew as Jake's front hooves connected with the cane. His hooves were digging into the concrete as she pushed him back. Where is all this power coming from? He thought. I should have won by now! She was leagues bellow me! The more desperate the situation becomes, the stronger she grows! I musn't allow this to go on any longer!

The gem on his cane glowed again, forming glowing strands of lightning that wrapped around Jade and a shield around himself. The lighting surged through Jade's body,  zapping her nerves with pain.

Dynamo darted his eyes from the fight to Tricis. "So, she's not using her full power yet? I guess she's holding back and waiting for the right opportune moment." He addressed, while keeping his focus on the battle. "I might ask her after we win, or later on." He smiled as he had confidence in his team leader. The smile soon faded as he watched the two exchange strategical moves. He gritted his teeth as the cane turned into a lasso and wrapped itself around Jade's front left hoof. 'It's like this cane has a mind of it's own. It's as if Tatterhoof doesn't have to think in order to make a move.' He smirked as Jade used Tatterhoof's strategy against him, but frowned as the cane was just out of reach. 'That guy is really dependent on that weapon. If only he didn't have that cane at his disposal.' His ears perked as Tricis described the flow of the fight. "You don't judge a book by it's cover. Tatterhoof is only focused on what he's seeing in front of him. He's not looking a few steps ahead of the fight. That, and he's not seeing the bigger picture. If she can hang on, then I know Jade can beat this guy." He nodded as he had hope for his captain. 

He watched as energy began to swirl within the air. The blue unicorn had a look of awe as Jade's hooves had a green aura to them. Each step she took had a hoof-shaped indent in the ring. He couldn't understand what had happened, but he knew that this was her chance. "Coach? What's happening to Jade? What kind of power is that? Is that normal?" He knew he was bombarding Tricis with multiple questions, but his curiosity would be unending. She was a Pegasus, yet it looked like unicorn type magic. He watched as Jade jumped into the air before flying to Tatterhoof like a jet. As she was about to land a decisive hit, he noticed Tatterhoof create a shield and attack Jade at the same time. 'Come on, Jade. Keep hanging in there. You got to show this guy what you and this team are made of. Don't give up, my friend.'

Jade grunted and moaned as the pain shot through her nerves. Her eyes started tearing up and she was sweating, but she held on.

Using her powered-up wings, she took off backward, planning to use the sudden force to yank the cane from Tatterhoof's grasp and remove it from the battle.

This isn't possible! Where did she get the will to endure that kind of pain! Tatterhoof thought, gritting his teeth as he put more energy into the torturous lightning. This is enough energy to kill her three times! She hasn't even passed out!

 

"Come on! Come on!" The green suited pony said next to Rail, his eyes glued to the fight.

"Normal? No," Tricis said. "She isn't a normal fighter. When I met her there was an assheap of ponies also trying to get my training. Many of them with far greater power than her. But she made the cut because of this quality. She has a unique ability to change the course of a battle when she puts her mind to it."

The cane slipped from Tatterhoof's hooves after Jade endured nearly a full minute of pain, exerting her magical energy into strength. The electric storm around Jade suddenly stopped and Tatterhoof's shield disappeared.

"B-but..." Tatterhoof stuttered with his shoulders slumped.
