Liklihood of MLP in Toy Story?

I find it rather strange that we've yet to see any My Little Pony toys in the Toy Story franchise, considering that there are many Playskool toys like Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head having been in there since the very first movie, and Playskool is a subsidiary of Hasbro. (they even had  the IP "Potato Head Kids" series running in the same block as "My Little Pony & Friends" back in 1985)

do you guys think we'll see MLP in any future Toy Story series or shorts?

The team behind Toy Story originally wanted to put Barbie, a girl's toy, and G.I. Joe, another Hasbro toy, in there from the beginning. They did eventually get their way with Barbie before the MLP craze, so now all they need to do is get their way with another Hasbro toy. However, even if Hasbro objected, they could always just do what they did in the first movie and use a fictional parody toy for G.I. Joe. It all depends on the circumstances. Still, I do not believe they'll be able to resist dropping at least one background gag referencing bronies. ;)

I don't think there's any chance of that happening. It'd be a distraction more than anything, and although MLP is culturally iconic is many ways, especially in how it's evolved over the decades, Barbie is a whole other story. Even with the advent of the Internet, there are still plenty of people completely unaware of our fandom, (Mostly consisting of a notably older demographic, but this can be seen with newer generations as well). MLP is really only important to a set of people within a circle. Outside of that circle people don't usually don't give us a second thought. Barbie and Mr. and Mrs.Potato head are known by everyone within the US at the very least, so there's a different precedent.

Just figured I’d drop the replies you received from your topic in 2017. Yes I have that kind of memory.

I'd rather a crossover with Transformers first

Honestly I think this would be better suited for a crossover with Hasbro properties in general. I mean it already has Mr Potato Head

They also created their own line of Toy Story toys called Toy Story and Beyond, the line started around 2001 and ended around 2007.
They were the original creators of the classic Mr. Potato Head. They also own Playskool, which is Hasbro's toys for infants and toddler kids. They've created various toys like NERF, the Barrel of Monkeys, and board games like Cranium.

remember Mr. Mike? Hasbro

I don't think it would mesh well. Look at how hard Buzz took it when he finally understood he was just a toy. The shock would probably kill Princess Twilight.

I was about to say that it WON'T happen because Hasbro got mad for them killing a GI Joe in the first movie, and an extensive use of Barbie which belongs to it's rival Mattel. Then I remembered Potato Head :D . Well, MAYBE it's possible, but I doubt more than one pony will be used. Probably Twi, as Tara Strong already worked in one of the Toy Story shorts

If by crossover you mean including a specific Pony character in Toy Story 4 ... like they did with Barbie and Ken in later sequels ... it fits and makes sense. As long as they don't overuse the character or repeat anything we have already seen (no need to have a a character go through an existential crisis ... been there done that).

Pinkie Pie would actually make the most sense from a dynamic POV since they don't have that character archetype in large supply already.

I’ll add that it isn’t likely because of a narrative issue with having character theme duplication due to Bullseye. Also, it isn’t worth the licensing cost to Disney/Pixar when they can just toss in Star Wars now. Hasbro would reap the benefits without having to entertain additional IP use negotiations.

That and Hasbro might not be willing to want to allow Disney the opportunity to advertise one of their top franchises when they could do that themselves.

I really want them to acknowledge the existence of the gen3 gen4 merchandise but I am not sure that it will happen because Pixar made up two fictional toy franchises that I am pretty sure never existed in the real life. (before the 90s) Sheriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear

I would honestly prefer Hasbro got them to put Optimus Prime before any MLP character first

They had a Transformer knockoff in "Toy Story of Terror".
