gaming Nintendo's Turnaround.

I feel that since the Switch, Nintendo has done away with some of their worst practices, and overall been more consumer-friendly. They got rid of their YouTube Program, the Switch is the first console of theirs to NOT have region-locking, and they allowed crossplay when Sony didn't.
What do you think has caused this turnaround?

It is nice that they got rid of region-locking, but they've turned around and become less consumer friendly in other ways by making the online service paid and getting rid of the Virtual Console. Nintendo is such a flawed company. They can never make a product that is simply good all around. They always have to shoot themselves in the foot some way.

They also got rid of what I consider to be... “questionable practices” they’ve started with the WII. Despite their short library of exclusives, those few games fell like the old Nintendo is back :mlp_yay:. Sure, they have made some mistakes like the paid online, but parts where I was concerned the most seems to be taken care off

I’m so glad they did away with Region locking, i’m now more willing to import now. I got the Ace Attorney Trilogy on Switch when Capcom wouldn’t release a physical version in the US, when the same happened on 3DS I wasn’t able to do that

The situation with the VC is still bullshit though

The Wii helped opened video games to non-gamers.

But seriously, one of the main reason the Switch did well is that they advertised it and what it can do much better than the Wii U.

That may be true, however, most of those used their WIIs as dust collectors shortly after, thus selling less games than it should have from those consumers. And I believed that, in the long run, contributed to WIIU’s failure as well

The only issue honestly is the paid online which is actually a worse service than the Wii U. No dedicated voice chat, peer to peer, and a poor replacement for the VC.

It's still cheaper than what my brother has to pay to play online with Playstation. $20 for a whole year is still better than $60 a year.

I have to agree with this to some degree, though I have to say even considering the price, Switch's online service has a significant lack of features present in the online services of other consoles. Though I will say that the complaints about it are at least slightly overblown.

Sorry, but it's worth about as much. $20 a year for less features than the Wii U which was free.

Your opinion. It's still worth every penny to me.

There is no reason for any company to charge for online. Again, the Wii U had more features, and was free. Virtual console, voice chat, dedicated servers. NSO costs $20 and has NES games, peer to peer online which is objectively worse than dedicated servers, no voice chat, and extremely limited cloud saves.

I clearly said, it was worth it for me. If you can't respect my opinion to love it despite its shortcomings, I must ask you to stop quoting me. Besides the money helps the business in the long run.

No it doesn't it goes towards Nintendo's pocket for profit, and online being free on PC is a good indicator of that, and this is the line of thinking that makes it worse. Right now it's "only $20", but will you say that if they raise it to $40? or $60? And don't add new features?

Also, sorry, but Nintendo is not immune to criticism, and you need to stop acting like they aren't by saying "it's just my opinion". I want them to improve the service because it needs better features.

I never said "Nintendo is immune to criticism." If I intend to mean that, I would flat-out say it. Subtly and implications are not my strong suits.  Even I know the Virtual Boy was terrible. I never act like they're flawless. I clearly said it had shortcomings.

You are well within your rights to dislike the service, but Please don't put words in my mouth I never said.

Wouldn't you rather not pay for an objectively inferior service to the Wii U's?

Nintendo is a company that builds new houses while tearing down others in the process. I can't praise them for that. Having no VC console is pathetic considering it has been one of their most popular features since its introduction on the Wii. They could have brought it to the Switch and carried over our Wii U and 3DS purchases, but nope. They have a paid online service that has absolutely no way to even send basic messages to friends. In 2019. Doesn't matter how cheap it is, being paid at all and lacking such basic features is inexcusable. They made one of their most bland UI's ever which is weird considering how charming these have been since the Wii. They port games from the Wii U and over-charge for them. They ship the console with only 32GB of memory. Not every game supports cloud saves when it should be the standard. It took them this long to even give us ANY way to back up our saves since they give us no other options. With Nintendo, it seems you cannot get something new without sacrificing something else.

I say all of this out of tough love because I do really like the Switch. Its core concept of being a console that can be played on the go is a winner, they nailed that aspect and it succeeds at being something far more than just a gimmick like the Wii's stupid motion controls. It isn't enough for me to forgive their obvious missteps and lack of basic things in 2019.
