What's REALLY missing in Spike's arc?

Spike has done alot in the show, but there are still a couple of things about his character position and story that don't make alota sense. I'm not certain of what's happening with him, but there's only one thing about Spike I'm sure about: there's SOMETHING coming for him! I dunno what it is, I have no clue whatsoever what his potential destiny could be, after one was promised for him via character descriptions and Meghan. However, I was looking at his destiny all wrong this whole time! In this case...

Destiny =/= Career
Destiny = Prophecy!

Of course he's happy being Twilight's assistant! But how far will he go to assist her, instead of doing just collateral? After all, even though he's known as a hero of the Crystal Empire, it was Twilight that found the heart after all, and then the Mane 6 defeated Sombra in the season 9 premiere, taking Spike's monster basically. Plus even though it was Spike that befriended Thorax, Starlight reformed the changelings. Why is he called a main character by the devs anyway? Why does he hang with the Mane 6 (also why the number still 6 instead of 7), when his position isn't equal to them? His role can easily get replaced by Starlight or Discord, which makes his role less special. Well the answer is simple: we'll just need to wait till the finale comes and our answer will be revealed!

Sparkle's 7 already told us what he's capable of, and if he could be misleading once, he could be misleading again! He was there since the beginning, but there's a reason why his story arc doesn't feel satisfactory yet compared to the other main cast, cause his main goal wasn't revealed to us - hidden away, so we wouldn't expect it when it finally comes out! And not even HE might know about it! He's the key to Grogar's defeat in some way! I'm sure of it! Of course the Mane 6'll be there too and play a big role, as well as the Student 6, and Starlight, but Spike is taking the BIG hero role though! It's always the most unexpected heroes taking out the biggest of baddies! I heard that's how Megan was the hero in G1!

As much as he's done alota good in Equestria - it keeps getting forgotten about, or someone else just takes it from him (like the changeling redemption arc), he's always overlooked and left out, and that's why alota people, most of you included, don't think he's gonna be the big hero in the finale and will remain as the comedic sidekick, but perhaps that's the point! ;) That's the story tricking you! Why else would a main character take this long to really prevail as getting noticed as the greatest symbol of friendship Equestria has ever known? When'll his actions finally be addressed? When will he be noticed, no longer be the sidekick, be a full member of the Mane 7, and finally reap the reward for all the good he's done? Soon! Very soon! :D

I dunno for sure of what's coming for him, but SOMETHING is! Does anyone else feel like there's something really missing about him?

I think the reason why Spike's character arc doesn't seem like going anywhere is because unlike Fluttershy, Rarity, Rainbow Dash or even Twilight, it wasn't even roughly planned. Spike is undeniably a main cast of the show, but he is kinda like Watson from the Sherlock Holmes series, the robot vacuum cleaner from the Teletubbies, Alfred from Batman. He is important and essential and belongs to the main cast, but he is a supporter. The reason Spike got all those special moments was because he needed his least share and if it wasn't done, the whole show might have looked like treating him cruel. Someone has to purposely let him down to achieve that. And it's inevitable to make him less of a push over over time. But it was done because they were forced to do it due to the reasons I said, and it's not planned out.

One of the example of this is the show giving him wings. Spike's wings was high on the fandom's wish list alongside with Applejack's parent's autopsy reports and CMC's cutie marks. As time went on, Spike's wing issue was getting harder to ignore, not knowing that he wasn't meant to have wings in the first place. But if they decided to do it, they should have done it with more caution and care. Spike got his wings and he had his moment of being 'awesome', but it's superficial. And that's also why lots of other characters seem to lose their goal or purpose in the show lately.

Also, Spike is a kid unlike the Mane Six. He barely became a teenager. So he needs his family's support. And he helped Twilight as much as Twilight helped him, more loyal than Rainbow Dash. I also think his role isn't replaceable. Early episodes like The Ticked Master, Lesson Zero, Winter Wrap Up, The Best Night Ever, Fall Weather Friend shows that he can be very important while being a supporting role and add a lot of flavor and dynamics to the episode, sometimes functioning as the second axis of the story. And episodes where he is a main role like Secret of My Excess, Inspiration Manifestation, Owl's End That Ends Well, Dragon Quest shows his unique character and relationship with others that no other characters can tell.

The problem with his character arc is it's not pushed actively with a vision, but pushed passively by circumstances as time went on. So it doesn't have a direction. And I don't think it's only just Spike's problem.
