Best Gift Ever and Rainbow Roadtrip are both solid, but if I had to choose one I'd choose Best Gift Ever since the pacing is much tighter.

The movie isn't even close to the other specials. The only thing it does better is the songs. Everything else, including the visuals, is worse.

Best Gift Ever is my favorite by far. Mainly because of the great interactions between the mane 6, Spike, Discord and Cadance's family.

Rainbow Roadtrip has definitely the best new characters. (Sorry Skystar and Pistachio, you two deserve a mention)

The Movie is the absolutely superior in terms of music, they had the budget and they used it wisely.

1. Which one had the best story?

Rainbow Roadtrip, no question. The movie ignored a lot of previous continuity in order to make the story work the way it did, and some of the Mane 6 were just there to fill in space. The Best Gift Ever’s plot suffered from a wild winterchilla being brought in as a “pet” for FS’s sanctuary (wild animals belong in the wild!), Fluttershy given the Idiot Ball, the atrocious post office scene, and the Flim Flam story just not being that good at all. Rainbow Roadtrip, despite the really slow pacing, made sense throughout, stuck to continuity while remaining its own thing, and was completely competent. The mistakes from RR aren’t as major as the ones before.

2. Which one had the best new characters?

Same as before: Rainbow Roadtrip. However, it’s quite close. Aurora, Bori, and Alice are great. The Acorn family, especially Pistachio, are great, too. The movie had some really badly-written characters, particularly Novo. Every new character in RR is endearing, likeable, and full of heart.

3. Which one had the best friendship lesson?

Toughie! All of them have solid lessons, but mine goes with Roadtrip again. Hope Hollow was emotionally helpless, longing for the return of its glory days. Genuine joy, inspiration, and confidence could help inspire hope.

4. Which one visually looked best?

The Best Gift Ever wins this. The movie’s 2D animation is outstanding, but lacked in the 3D animation/modeling. Rainbow Roadtrip improves the visuals tenfold, but the animation isn’t exactly the best, either. BGE’s animation and visuals are top notch throughout.

5. Which one had the best songs?

The movie. Nuff said.

6. Which one had the best pacing?

Best Gift Ever. Easily the tightest script.

7. Overall, which one was your favorite?

That remains the movie. Rainbow Roadtrip is the best of the trio, but I prefer the movie due to its action, character moments, and songs.

The movie is the most visually dazzling, has the most memorable characters, and the best songs to me. Best Gift Ever has the strongest story and pacing to me and is my favorite. Rainbow Roadtrip has a great, inspiring lesson, but it just does not hold a candle to the other big specials in any other category to me.

I'm guessing he's referring to when Fluttershy bought that doll from the Flim Flam brothers.

That and falling for their not-so-clever scam and disguise super easily.

If it was that easy there wouldn't be a conflict since,

Fluttershy being naive was what brought about the whole Flim Flam brothers issue in the first place.

In my opinion, the movie had the best visuals, expressions and music.

Rainbow roadtrip had the best new characters and the best lesson.

Best gift ever had the best story, the script was tight and not as loos as the rainbow special, and overall I enjoyed this one the most.

I voted "Best Gift Ever" for all of these, and I honestly do think it's much better than the other two in every way, except maybe for characterization, in which "Rainbow Roadtrip" is more or less its equal.

Best story: Honestly, of the three, "Best Gift Ever" is the only one which had storytelling I liked at all. The other two are fairly bland.

Best new characters: Pistachio is my favourite character from any of the three, but "Rainbow Roadtrip" is not far behind at all.

Best friendship lesson: None of these are really about anything other than "friendship is good" but I liked the way it was presented in "Best Gift Ever" a lot more.

Best visuals: Controversially, I very much prefer the show's style, so there's really only one option.

Best songs: I haven't gone back to listen to any of the songs from any of these - I remember finding them all fun at the time. "Best Gift Ever" wins for lyrical content, though.

Best pacing: I actually like "Rainbow Roadtrip" quite a bit in this regard, and if it didn't start awkwardly, it would be a very close number 2.
