to me what it comes down to is money. there has been great cartoons like last Last Airbender  but look at that and what they have made so far. look at steven universe  great show to start out and then look at it now. Most cartoons  that are not for kids have to be woke or about what going on it the world to sell becuase that with the people with money want to see but it's not what we want to see. I love final space but i know there going to mess it up because it's a great show and it's on adult swim the place shows go to die(i am so old i rmeber when AS had both anime and comdy on the same night).

why do you work for Queen Chrysalis? A samurai duty is to serve his master, regardless of the kind of person she is .

I've been a fan of Steven Universe since the first episode. May I ask how exactly it changed, in your opinion? If it's about the show being "woke", it was always like that from the very beginning. The difference is that Steven Universe actually does the "woke" thing better than other shows. Other cartoons trying to be politically correct just want to shove their values in your face. Meanwhile, SU has flawed characters with challenges to over come, and a really engaging story provided you didn't guess the plot twists early on like some fans did (and I still have no idea how they figured it out...). Not to say that SU is perfect, there are flaws even I have noticed, but I still think it turned out to be a great show.

Basically, going "woke" is fine as long as you can still tell an actually good story that keeps even the average audience interested. But businesses are realizing that going full woke without any actual good stories, character development, or any real conflict to overcome is boring and doesn't sell as well as they think it did. The crowd that wants media to be more PC may have money, but that crowd isn't always the biggest. Probably because most people who want things to be more politically correct are pretty easy going and won't make trouble on social media or something if fictional media isn't exactly how they want it. Gotta be careful of the crazies out there...

Why are most adult cartoons comedies? Why aren't there more adult cartoons that are like The Sopranos or The Wire?

You know, that's a very good question. I guess the popular opinion is that cartoons are for comedy and live action is for... well, action.

To me, it seems anime is way broader than western cartoons. It is such a huge spectrum that saying you are watching an anime is the same as saying you are watching a live action movie - It can be of almost any genre.

It's a reflection of Japanese culture. They don't have the same, extremely strong moral hangups as Western countries. They have morals and standards, yes, but they aren't complete prudes that think they have to always be politically correct or try to shield the eyes of the children. I don't know if it's about being behind-the-times or if they just choose not to, but they still don't rate their TV shows. On American television, you often see ratings in the top corner saying what kind of audience the show was meant, or what kind of content it might contain. In Japan, you just have to go by programming blocks to know which audience it was meant for, and even then there are times when they can play things pretty loosely with what's allowed and what isn't.

Most cartoons in general are comedies. It sells well.

On the topic, my favorites at the moment (not counting Hazbin, YET) are Rick and Morty and South Park.

they were not flawed early on in the show and they made them flawed to fit what they wanted. If you'r talking about pink being steven mom that was very clear early on if you asked qustions. I could make a book about all the things worng with that show (watch some of the you tube videos about why people don't like that show). Really what made me dislike that show was the pink. She was a child, acted like a child and did things like a child but she not to blame for anything she cause.  Everything that happen to steven was because his mom lied and made steven to clean up her mess. even white say that too but fans just forget that part(also she been hideing inside steven the hold time)

Archer & Rick and Morty are my two favorites that I can never get tired of watching.

Hmm... What's the right to say this...

Swordsman, I've watched every episode. I honestly fail to see how they were ever perfect. I'm not sure how many episodes you mean when you said "early on in the show", because it's hard to flush out the characters completely when you're busy setting up the expected status quo of the show. That's what future episodes are for!
I also don't need to watch any YouTube videos. Those people have their opinions, and I have mine. Sometimes people bring up good points, but sometimes people miss the point entirely. Which is why I like to make up my own mind on stuff before mindlessly agreeing to what others might have to say.
I'll agree that Pink's personality is all over the place; but there is discussion value there. Doesn't mean its inconsistent or bad writing, just means there is a lot to analyze and sort through. And anything that can create discussions is never completely a bad thing. :squee:
And finally, you might want to watch the last episode of the series, because Pink was not "hiding inside Steven the whole time". I'm not going to ruin the ending for you, but that was never a thing that happened, and that wasn't the point of the finale.

But thanks for the input! :) Any time you want to talk about SU in more depth, I'm game.
