I hated:

• Frenemies

• The Break Up Break Down

• To Change a Changeling

• The Hearth's Warming Club

All more than any of those.

Bluh! Those are all great episodes!

Anyway, I suppose MMDW for me.(Though it's hardly the worst episode in the whole show.)

I hate:

  • Fake It 'Til You Make It
  • Hard to Say Anything
  • 2, 4, 6 Greaaat
  • Magical Mystery Cure
  • Spike At Your Service
  • The End in Friend

And probably a good few more than I hate any of these, but of those 21 Pranks Later is probably the worst. I think Newbie Dash isn't really THAT bad (even if it's still most definitely a bad episode), and Mysterious Mare Do Well, although pretty bad, is not as bad as 21 Pranks Later.

Newbie Dash for being the result of 5+ years of a build up of a major character arc. Now knowing how it was originally supposed to go, I hate it more.

I refuse to believe anyone wrote out of good will or with the intent of making a good story, it feels like it was written by people who hated the show, it’s characters, and its audience

Newbie Dash because it was the least fun episode of the three. Mysterious Mare Do Well started off spectacularly and kept me interested until right before the end, 28 Pranks Later was a fairly good episode for me. Newbie Dash did had elements that was hateable for many people, but it was also painfully predictable and uninteresting overall, and that's the most important thing to me when judging an episode.

28 Pranks later. Mean-spirited and a regression of Rainbow's character. Mysterious Mare Do Well comes close behind.

I have a bit of a soft spot for Newbie Dash. There are issues with this episode but it addresses a character flaw of Rainbow Dash and nails how it's a problem.

"The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well" is the only one of these I really hate.

I sort of enjoyed "28 Pranks Later" for what it was even considering its obvious flaws. It's not great but I laughed.

I... want to like "Newbie Dash" more than I do, because I love how it's very clearly about Rainbow Dash overcompensating for her own insecurity, and I love how the episode completely changes the meaning of the "Rainbow Crash" nickname. I think that episode is way more sympathetic to her than people realize. But I don't have a counter-argument when people say the Wonderbolts should have stopped calling her that, and those impressions are unbearable. I kinda wish, once Spitfire explained the nicknames, she then offered to stop calling Rainbow that - and then Rainbow declined, because having that as her nickname means she proved the bullies wrong. But I wonder how much sense that would make.

I think that would have worked quite well,

And the impressions work for some people and not others - like the "Cloudsdale anthem" in Equestria Games.

Do people find that funny? I like that scene, but mostly because I feel sorry for Spike.

Cringe amuses some people no end and utterly repulses others. Like Marmite.

How was it originally supposed to go?

Spoiler

Just for the original premise, the original ending had it so RD was in a slump, and in an attempt to cheer her up, Scootaloo would have cheered on the highest rafters. She would end up falling off, and RD would have ruined the show by causing a Sonic Rainboom and saving Scootaloo. Also the hazing was mostly absent(and yes, this was actually something people working on the show were worried about in the emails)

Oof. That does make it worse.

Newbie Dash, and not just for being the show's biggest status-quo-changing failure. On its own, it's infuriating and anger-inducing. This entire episode is one gigantic Dash torture porn with one of the worst morals in the series.

However, the focus was instead on de-individualisation, which I found a bit disturbing myself.

Spoiler

That's a fair point, but I think they could've worked on that if Polsky was able to write it instead of Rapp. Instead of de-indivualization, make it how the rules shouldn't deter you from doing the right thing. In the proposal, she triggered the Rainboom by accident. Triggering it because she has to fly fast enough to save Scoot's life and calling out that warning may do better.

I liked Newbie Dash. ^_^ Mysterious Mare Do Well may not be very good, but it's way overhated. I picked 28 Pranks Later, since while it is overhated too, I feel I was a bit too easy on it in the past. Rainbow Dash causing a "zombie apocalypse"...with cookies. It can be the funny kind of dumb, but it's still dumb. :nom:

I'm sure Rapp could have worked something out if they just let him stay on the original course. Leaks show he wanted to at least keep the original ending mostly in tact
