movies/tv Can you believe this is an anime opening?

There's a certain quality to most anime openings that make them what they are and very very few have anything that sounds like a song from an actual band that focuses on music and isn't related to anime at all.

This is one such song.

It's got a musical quality that sets it apart from any other anime opening.

I haven't even seen the anime. I'm waiting to see if it gets an English Dub. (If it has one already then tell me. I don't keep up with anime news at all. lol)

wait...if the intro is in English why would the anime not be in English? o.O

Cuz it's what the creators of the anime wanted as their theme song? lol

I dunno if it was made specifically for the anime or just put in as the opening.

It looks like it does have an English version coming in 2012. Funimation is doing it. They generally do good Dubs (for those who aren't totally against Dubbed anime)

English anime intro?

No thank you.

Why would the language matter if the execution is good?

Besides, English lyrics in anime openings isn't anything new.

I like the Japanese culture, their way of talking, and their animes.

I honestly cannot stand dubs.

It isn't a dub though... that's the original opening for the Japanese release. Like I said, it's not unheard of for animes to have English songs as openings or endings.

The opening to Gungslinger Girl, for example, was done by a Scottish group called The Delgados, the ending to the original Hellsing series featured

. I don't think any of them suffered by having music that wasn't j-pop (even though I didn't like any of the series mentioned) Edited by Zoop

I do not like any of those except for Hellsings.

Like I said though, I am more on the asian side of anime.

I hate american voices for some reason.

The Japanese language is just amazing for me.

I think it's partly because it's English... There are some animes that have japanese pop songs as themes.

I also think there are some other animes with songs that don't really sound that much like an anime song, like Cowboy Bebop or Trigun.

This isn't one of those, but I really like this opening/song:

I truly and honestly don't understand how anyone who speaks English as their first language can possibly shun their own language when listening to it in any sort of TV show or video game. lol

Have you never heard the amazing voice acting of Trinity Blood, Outlaw Star, Darker Than Black, Black Lagoon (which has an opening sang entirely in Engrish) Soul Eater or Negima?

I've always been the type to watch English Dubs over Subs anyway but to totally shun either one seems a little silly to me, especially when you reasoning is only because it's not the original voice actors or because it's just not Japanese no matter how much you like the culture.

You know, I considered that possibility but that's definitely not it. It has a musical quality to it beyond that of most anime. I love the two anime openings you did post though. They are both also very unique though they still sound like anime openings to me.

As much as I love Soul Eater (allot)

The dubbing was awful.

Black star's voice in the dub's...

Let's just say I would not be kind to the voice actor.

This is the kind of anime openings I like-

Wait wait wait...because of one voice actor that was intentionally annoying you think the dubbing is bad? How can you possibly think Laura Bailey is a bad voice actor? lol

How about whoever did Death the Kid's voice? The spider queen and her henchman? These are some of the best voice actors ever imo.

But nothing ever beats Outlaw Star or Trinity Blood or Darker Than Black. They have the best English VAs in history.

Yes, I said the dubbing was bad.

But did I say that ONLY Black star was bad?

No, no I did not.

I will admit the Spider Queen and the henchmen were nice, but people like Stein or Maka did not capture the magic the actors had in their native tounge.

This makes no sense to me because I consider Stein one of the best characters, VA included. lol

I will never ever understand people like you when it comes to anime. Your thought processes make little sense to me at all.

No offense meant. :P

Have you actually seen Soul eater in subs?

No, but any other anime I've ever watched in a Sub was never nearly as good as it was in English. Darker Than Black is a perfect example of this. Dragon Ball Z is another.

Most Japanese VAs either overexaggerate or are almost completely monotone and that doesn't work for the type of story they are trying to convey.

Though I will admit one thing: It's partially because I'm not familiar with the language at all, so I find no connection or feeling when I hear them. The way they speak could be good or bad but when I hear it, all I hear is another language. I don't hear sarcasm, I don't hear feelings, I only hear another language being spoken to me in ways that are, like I said above, totally overexaggerated or don't give enough feeling.

I suppose in the end you could say that I watch English anime because I'm familiar with it but I've rarely ever heard a voice that I even considered remotely bad. They are two totally different languages and to compare them really doesn't seem right to me. You like one over the other but I don't really consider one worse than the other in Voice Acting.

And it's not like I don't watch subbed anime at all, just only when the English version isn't available. I watched Pandora Hearts and it wasn't bad but it would have been better in English for the sole purpose that I can properly judge the voice acting.

Some are better than others but few are truly bad.

Only English VA in recent memory that I even considered remotely bad was Karin in the Chibi Vampire anime because she always had that whiny tone to her voice.

That about sums up my feelings on the matter. I prefer English because I can understand it, both through language and syntax as well as how an emotion is conveyed. Japanese? Not so much. When I try to imagine what they say, as they say it, it sounds awkward because in English that wouldn't have made any sense. The tones of the voices are completely different because of the language they speak.

It goes back to not being able to understand how someone who understands one language can totally shun it for a language they most likely have no knowledge of besides the exposure they get from anime.

</sort-of-rant>

Not meant to start any arguments, just conveying my disbelief of why anyone would prefer Japanese over English when English is their first language. I say this to all of the anime community, not just you Finest. :P

I don't watch a lot of anime but the one's I do have been butchered by dubs.

Bleach just had horrific dub voices, I honestly prefer the japanese voices.

And Yu-Gi-Oh, well the voices wasn't bad but as you know 4kids like to ruin everything about a show so yeah.

If there's one thing 4Kids ruins it ain't the voice acting imo. The VA isn't all that fantastic but it's nowhere near as horrible as people make it out to be, on top of that they do worse things like cutting out a ton of content they shouldn't and not releasing their DVDs in more than three episode packs. <.<
