Should the Windigoes return to the show?

I really doubt those silly windigos can go as far as causing another snowstorm.

A friendship with three ponies who barely know each other was enough to melt them down. They would surely vanish as soon as they entered Equestria, with so many (allegedly friendly) ponies and all

Hmm... Windigos (from what i know) feed on ponies' negative behavior towards each other (how they say rude things about each other). So unless some ponies get in a war or something, the Windigos won't appear , Devin.

That's what makes life life.

Then clearly there would need to be a factor from another villain, that somehow enables the Windigoes to act independently. Or hell, even change them from feeding off hate, to feeding off love. Forcing the ponies to deal with a soul-crushing blizzard, since they can't hate one another, whilst they try to find the evil that is keeping the spirits there.

Discord's return, anyone?

I'd like to see them back, whatever the reason would be. I thought they were one of the more interesting creatures.

About critters who feed off of love, we already got these cutesy little bugger.

Thing will make more sense if at the beginning, the windigos' storm started to manifest on the lesser area of Equestria, where seeds of hatred still linger around (preferably Appleloosa, the conflict between the settler and the buffaloes still went on and off). Then the windigos slowly spread their blizzard further into the mainland.

When Celestia figured out what actually went wrong, it will be too late, the Windigos' influence had spread too far and wide in Equestria. Then cue elements of harmony.

At least that's what I got in my head

That doesn't really work in my eyes. Yes the storm would start from a feud in the lesser regions, but it would die as soon as it got into the rest of Equestria, where love is everywhere. The Windigoes' storm doesn't work like a hurricane, where it only needs to get going, then it can just escalate, it's like a tornado, in the sense that it tumbles if it hits a mountain, and can only work on flat terrain. 'Flat terrain' in this instance being hatred, and 'mountain' being love.

Well aware of the changelings :3 But would still be just as interesting to have Discord use his near omnipotent powers to force the Windigoes to work fundamentally different than they're supposed to, in order to serve himself. On top of his own chaos, the Windigoes would serve as a buffer to slow down the resistance against him. After all, harder to stop the god of chaos when you're without food/without energy from the storm killing the crops, and freezing your tail off.

Well...

Windigos > FILLED WITH POWAH! > everything freezes > no food > no ponies fight back > no ponies to play with > Discord is ronery

Discord's primary modus operandi is playing with ponies, and laugh at their suffering. Killing them outright will only give him dead toys. No good!

Edited my post btw

I'm sure he'd control them to the point where thier blizzard doesn't go to the point of killing, it just does enough damage to make it so crops are hard to grow, and the huge amounts of snow and ice make it hard to be mobile.

It would be cool if they brought back any villein from season 1 or 2, but the Windigos would be a hard one to do. Their would have to be a good reason for them to return. Maybe if a spell mad them stronger or something that is not like what they have done already. Just needs to be different.

I have 2 ideas for them coming back:

1. They interfere with a winter wrap up gone wrong, making more and more snow as the ponies get more and more upset with each other.

2. They decide to work with the changelings- they feed off the love somewhere, and then the Windigos come for the the negative emotions left over- who knows, maybe this was the predatory cycle in ancient equestrian times, I like to think so. :o

I like the second idea, it's very interesting. I always thought about the Changelings basically doing the opposite that the Windigoes do. Thought they'd hate each other, but forming a cycle would work if the changelings went first.

It could work but seeing how they were only a minor villain in the show, it would be a bit difficult to make them a focus point in a multi-parter. However, with a bit of tweaking on your idea it could very well work.

Since there are three threads with a very similar topic, namely the Windigoes and their possible return to the show, it has been decided (by me, of course ;)) to merge them together, along with a more descriptive thread title. Just keeping you updated.
