How much longer should FiM go before MLP transitions into G5?

I think that 5 seasons and some specials would be reasonable.

G5 should exist in the same universe as FiM, but with different main characters. The Mane 6 could be supporting characters, mentors to the new main characters. This would happify me.

I think 5 seasons, (that is, as long as they're good) 1 theatrical movie and maybe a CMC made-for-TV movie would do it for me, although, realistically speaking, there probably won't be a theatrically-released movie.

  • 1 year later...

While I believe that FiM still has a long way to go before Hasbro brings in G5, we all need to realize that G4 will eventually come to an end, and that we will all one day bid farewell to Twilight Sparkle and Co. Personally, I want to see at least two more seasons and a movie. Then, my appetite for FiM will be satiated, and I will look forward to seeing G5, preferably with new characters and in a completely new style.

ummm... Personally, I think we should have G5 run ALONGSIDE G4 so we don't have to say bye to Twilight and the others while we still have a new cast. The movie should combine G5 and G4! Cool, huh?

I don't think it's going to end anytime soon.  Hasbro's created a bit of a problem for itself with G4 actually because it's transitioned MLP from being a toy focused line into a show focused line.  The problem with that is that with previous generations, ending the show didn't  mean that the toy sales would significantly decline... people still wanted the toys because that was the main product, which is why pre-FIM, the fandom was basically just a giant group of toy collectors who had far less vested in the television series.  Now, however, MLP has become dependent on the show.  For the first time, the primary reason to buy MLP toys is because you like the show, not because you like the toys.  So when the series ends, the toy sales will suffer a drastic decline as well making the franchise that is carrying Hasbro through tough financial times drop down significantly in revenue.

That means that in order for them to end generation 4, they'll have to have a back up plan.  I imagine that instead of really ending gen 4, it'll transition into a related series focusing on a different group of characters.  My guess is that the Mane 6 would transition into more of Celestia-esque characters that come in a couple times in the series to help out the new characters.

Regardless, I don't think anything will happen with the series anytime soon just because FIM represents such a massive proportion of Hasbro's overall sales.

Maybe g5 could be like a spin off of g4. Keeping the same ponies but changing the story. G4 really brought in the wave of bronies who help keep the franchise alive by spending LOTS and LOTS of money. Hasbro has to know that if they kill off g4 all it would do is shoo off a large amount of fans. I know there is a lot of people who are all nostalgic and say that g3 is the best. I remember the tv show from 2005 and remembering the toys that went along with it. But in all due respect, it was extremely girly and if they kept the old format many people who are fans today would have never become fans. Plus, they resemble real horses a little to much to be ok.

From the rumors that have been going on and from what I've heard, confirmed by staff via Twitter, it seems like Hasbro is aiming to continue FIM for at least four or five years, which would translate to anywhere from seven to ten seasons, depending on how they want to space things out. I don't think G5 is something to truly expect any time soon.

They should keep it until at least Season 7 are somewhere around that, and maybe 1-2 more movies sprinkled in between. And Ideas for G5 are that maybe G5 is actually G4 but in the future, and the Mane Six could consist of the CMC, and a few other once-fillies. Or maybe that G5 could be a different universe and everything, but still be awesome as ever.

I could actually see something along the lines of a Gen 4.5 as a spin off, as some of us have already mentioned. It'll help Hasbro transition and maximize the profit off the wild success of Gen 4.

I could see there being a sort of 4.5.  The problem with a switch to g5 is as popular as g4 is now if they did end the show at some point, even after say season 7 or 10, there may be a big backlash.  A transition may be easier for Hasbro.  Where maybe for prominence in the episode the CMC's and a few others their age are the main characters, and the former main 6 are around and seen as much as the cmc's are now.  and CMC's and their friends are older, maybe around the main 6's age or a bit younger.  Some of the former main 6 may have boyfriends or be married.

Well we know that G4 MLP has been renewed for a 5th season and is slated to last for 5 more years. Only time will tell how long we can go on with G4 before moving on to G5.

I only hope that Hasbro decides to end G4 at the right point. It shouldn't go on too long because we'll run the risk of lowering the quality of episodes for quantity, & then we'll get another Spongebob Squarepants. Hasbro, Plz don't ever let MLP turn into Spongebob quality, I beg of you !!!!

I just hope Hasbro keeps the same animation, because the animation alone pretty much defines the franchise and the community behind it. I would be content with a totally different set of characters with a story line that secedes the movie that ends the first one.
