Netflix recently suffered a big drop in subscribers, as well as a BIG loss in money, and as a result, the company is laying people off. Unfortunately, this might mean the end of animation on Netflix.

Maybe Hasbro will move future Gen 5 seasons to Youtube or something if things don't end up working out for them.  Just a thought.

I hope not. YouTube doesn’t seem to be drawing in the biggest crowd at the moment, especially with everything being marked for kids (rightfully so, but still, YouTube kids features are no fun).

Well, Discovery Family isn't much of an alternative but I could see Gen 5 moving there too since FiM is already there.

YouTube may be an alternative. However, as @ExplosionMare pointed out, the whole "made for kids" thing really affected interaction and viewership. As I've said before, that move by YouTube was just to avoid them having to pick up the pieces and put the penalty on us: the creators and viewers, which was a totally cruel move.

why are people unsubscribing?

Raising the cost of the subscription too often + content being released isn't that good + punishing users for password sharing

Yup, all of that combined with better competition, as I pointed out way back.

I also had a bad premonition that Netflix wasn't the best place for Hasbro to put G5 on after all. And as much as we all love to hate Youtube, that is sadly looking like the best option for Hasbro right now with the My Little Pony Official account still raking in plenty of views.

And people say physical media is dead...

In all seriousness, I do hope Hasbro can find a better alternative if Netflix isn't doing so well right now. Hate to hear this news when G5 is on the verge of launching their new series. Hope this won't affect G5's future.

This would be the main issue which resulted in this loss of subscribers along with an increase in competition. I don't think this will be the end of Netflix but it will definitely cause them to start rethinking some of their strategies going forward.

I thought Netflix was the best streaming service for a while, but at this point I'm welcoming them dropping off the streaming platform. It's their own fault, I don't know what they expected. When you punish password sharing (despite family plans and multiple screens being sub options? of course people are going to share for those), repeatedly raise prices, and worse, pull people into the platform with amazing shows just to cancel them after one season to save money (rest in peace Dark Crystal Age of Resistance :( ), of COURSE people are going to cancel their subs.

Such a shame since Netflix was doing so well with putting out animated content.

Hopefully Hasbro moves all of its MLP content to a different platform like Hulu or HBO before Netflix tanks completely, there's a lot of shows on their that don't deserve to go down in flames with it.

The same company that partnered with Adam Sandler to make like 8 shitty films exclusively for their service is suffering losses out the wazoo? Consider me...not too surprised at this point.

I'm pretty sure the focus on Discovery + is live action programming.

The commercials, on all the discovery channels, do have "Discovery Family" mentioned with all the others. I don't pay for it, so I honestly don't know what is on it.
