The upcoming book, "Sunny Starscout's Book of Adventure", got released early somewhere. The book tells about the events of G5 from Sunny's view. It also has a section at the end written by a certain evil alicorn.

Yeah, Opaline's part is the most interesting, especially this fragment:

"Twilight sent a hologram to the future? Please. After she stole all my magic, she couldn't come up with something better than that? The best part? It didn't even work. Her message glitched out, just like her empire."

This suggest there was something wrong with Twilight's Equestria that caused it to fail. Hopefully we'll find out more about that in future episodes...

A bigger question I have is whether the hands behind G5 are aware of its own narrative shortcomings.  This isn't the first example I've come across of the franchise seeming to be self-aware, albeit by B-canon material this time.  I'd still rather its narrative shortcomings be addressed, but I suppose there is some amusement to be had with speculating there's some awareness on the part of those involved.
