Obstacle Number 5

The rest of the runners are free, and you can continue making your way through the forest. As you go, the leaves and clouds above create a shadow so dark, that you can barely see your own hooves. Unicorns' light also doesn't help much, because the path of Pinkie's cupcakes is nowhere to be seen. You can, however, see a mysterious light in the distance. What could it be? Is it sunlight? A firefly? A monster?

Use the light to guide you out of the dark forest! Any participant may see a different light, with a different source, tied to a different obstacle, or you can follow the same light with your group.

Next obstacle on October 13th.

*As the participants (and Shiny) finally pierced an hole big enough for a pony to fit, into the wall of vines, she saw a light on the other side. The light was at a certain distance away on the track. Strangely, it was nearly impossible to see the path on the other side and her horn wasn't working anymore, for unknown reasons. This meant that all the participants would have to slowly make their way toward the light.*

*Before anypony could rush to the other side of the hole, which excluded @Dusk Haven, Shiny yelled to warn everypony about the danger.* "GUYS!!! I have a good news and a bad news! The good news is that we can now reach the other side of the wall and so the race is up again! The bad news is that the race is down because some dark magic is making everything well… dark… and my horn doesn't make light anymore!"

"Fortunately, there's an eerie light that I 100% trust for no particular reason, at a certain distance! We should all hold hooves to form a line, in order to not get lost in the obscurity, while we make our way to the light!" *The mare then extended her hoof toward the rest of the group, waiting for somepony to take it.*

[Iridescent Edge]

*Iridescent was still at the vines. He was still wobbling his horn around, chopping vines and freeing ponies. Until his horn eventually shrank down to its normal size. Iridescent took another one of those berries and ate it. He felt bile rising in his throat. He tried to hold it back to no avail as a strange liquid spewed from his mouth. All the vines in his proximity then withered away and died.*

[Moonlight Wane]

Wzipp! The last teleportation conveniently moves Moonlight beyond the thorny path, where he can continue onwards. He doesn't run for long before passing the last cupcake and entering the darkest part of the forest.

Moonlight holds his own hoof in his other hoof.

"Oh." He releases his hoof, hoping nopony saw that, and approaches Shiny. "You trust that light? Do you know what makes it?" He tries to look into it, but the surroundings are too dark to see the source.

Moushley notices Priscilla and waves. She says something nice and encouraging, but it just sounds like squeaks.

She cheered, bouncing in the balloon basket. She aimed her microphone toward the forest, grinning ear to ear.

 

The cheese is digested and Moushley is back to her normal shape. Moushley notices Pinkie acknowledging her. A dream come true! A fellow commentator recognizing her! She squeaks and waves at Pinkie, happy to be part of the team.

But then she notices how limited she is right now.

So she turns to @Shiny Silvermoon Socrate and looks at him, begging with big eyes. When she squeaks, only Socrate knows what she is asking. She wants him to fly her into Pinkie's balloon. ...She might have even called him sweetie...

After Samurai finishes slicing a clear path for all the racers, the effect of the berries wears off. Yet somehow, it went from dark to darker.

Samurai runs forward as fast as he can, lighting up his horn with magic flames once more. But somehow, it does no good, so he stops using his magic and stops running. "Never seen a darkness like this before. Hmm... Well, it may be cheating, but I did bring one more berry with me." Samurai eats it. Much to his luck, he gets an incredibly long length of rope! "Yatta! Celestia really is blessing me now."

Samurai ties one end of the rope to the field of vines he just exited out of, then starts to proceed ahead, unravelling his rope. "EVERYONE!! I am making a path with this rope!! Grab on and follow it, and it will lead you safely through the track!! Please hurry, cause I don't know how long it will last before it disappears!!" Samurai yells to the other racers.

As Samurai races ahead, he doesn't go as fast as normally does. While he is running, he is also being careful. Since he is mapping a safe track to run through, he doesn't want to fall into any traps, pits, or any other dangers. The other racers are counting on him now!

Pinkie leaned dramatically over the balloon basket, microphone in hoof, frosting smudged on her cheek.

 

”Wowee @Starlight Glimmer! You heard that? The Cupcake-inator may be empty, but the excitement sure isn’t! Just when you think this race can’t get any more chaotic, BAM! @Shiny Silvermoon Shiny drops the good-bad news! That’s right this challenge will make the runner choose rather to go forward buuuut.. on the other hooves you can’t see anything!”

 

She squirted down at the dark forest below, eyes wide and sparkling.

“But Shiny got some few fellow racers to join hooves like a big friend centipede! It’s like a scary movie and a trust exercise all in one! I’d totally sign up for that retreat, as long as they serve snacks!”

 

”Oh lookie here Starlight!! @Samurai Equine use the berries he has saved from the last challenge and got himself a rope! Look at him go, folks! The super stallion basically becomes a living GPS!” ‘Recalculating route-please grab the rope and proceed with caution.” She said, lowering her voice in an impression of a monotone navigation voice before bursting into giggles. 
 

@PrincessPriscillaPT “And Priscilla decided to join Samurai!!”

Her gaze darted to another corner of the chaos. “Hi Mousehely! pinkie waved back to the little mouse below, nearly dropping her mic.

Pinkie then turned her cannon around with pride, only for a hollow clink to echo inside. She peered in, frowning. “Oh. Right. No cupcakes. No frosting. No Sprinkle.” 

Pinkie turned to Starlight with a wink. “next time I will invent the super deluxe cupcake-inator over 9000!”

*Socrate felt like his heart was about to explode, when Moushley ( @Samurai Equine ) requested his aid and called him "sweetie" in squeaks. He immediately began to flap his bat wings which allowed him to hover above the ground. His feet then carefully grasped her orange sweater, before they both started their flight.*

*The duo of pets rode the breeze, getting further and further in the sky, until they reached the balloon. They then landed onto it, joining @Starlight Glimmer and @Pinkie Pie.*

The mare was now unconscious, little birds comically floating around her head, and lost somewhere in the middle of the obscurity.*

Samurai gladly waves in the direction of Priscilla and Pinkie. He can't fully see them, but he can hear them. He can also feel. Speaking of feeling--!!

Moushley grabs on to Socrate for dear life, no hesitation! And when they arrive in @Pinkie Pie's balloon, Moushley looks around before happily squealing! She runs around the basket. She gives Socrate another big hug. She runs on top of Pinkie's head and waves. She runs onto @Starlight Glimmer's head and waves. And finally, she poses like Sailor Moon, ready to commentate on this whole race in the name of the moon! ...Which is made of cheese.... The moon is made of cheese, right?

Meanwhile, Samurai notices he bumped into some pony. He looks back, and just barely makes out who it is. He panics. "AH! Oh no, Shiny! I'm so sorry, my friend! I didn't mean to! I was in such a rush, that I didn't see you there, and--"

Samurai stops. He looks left and right, wide-eyed and sweating bullets. "...No one saw that, right? It's too dark, right?"

Without any further assistance, Samurai returns to Shiny's side, picks her up, lifts her over his shoulder, and begins to run off. "Don't you worry, Shiny! We're gonna finish this together. ... It may take a while since I'm mapping a safe path, but we'll get there!" Samurai beams with pride. ... He then realize this might count as cheating. "...Well, too late to stop now. Saving a friend is more important! TO VICTORY!!!"

Dusk popped up suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere. She had followed the sound of the group’s voices through the darkness to find them. As she stepped into the faint light, the berry’s effect finally wore off, and she began to grow back to her full height—right in front of @Shiny Silvermoon.

“Hi there!” she greeted with a quick, almost sheepish smile.

Moonlight just looks as Samurai knocks out and runs off with Shiny. He's about to follow them, when he sees another light, seemingly closer than the first one. He hesitates, not knowing whether he should go towards it or follow his friends.

"It's not like they know where they are going. This way could be shorter." He trots towards the light. As he gets closer, it turns out to be not one, but many little lights, glowing blue. They turn out to be weird, long mushrooms, growing on trees. When Moonlight stops next to them, they all lean to one side, as if pointing at something with their caps. Moonlight looks in that direction, and sees another blue light. He looks back to see if anypony is following him, but he can't see them in the darkness. Shrugging, he goes towards the next light source.

[Samurai Equine]

Samurai can't see what every other pony is up to, but he hopes they are doing well. But he did hear @Dusk Haven Dusk, most likely calling out to Shiny, who may still be passed out. Still, he waved to her anyways. Hopefully she can see it in this looming darkness.

For the time being, he just keeps on advancing while mapping out the path with his rope. And while he lays down the path, he sings a little song to himself...

But as he continues down, he feels a strange sensation in the rope. "Uso darou!! Please don't be fading away now. So many racers are depending on this... I hope I can get to the end of the line soon."

[Moonlight Wane]

The light leads Moonlight to the second mushroom field, pointing at yet another light. And then another, and another. Looking back, he doesn't see the previous ones anymore. He's forced to continue onward.

Eventually, the mushrooms direct him to what turns out to be a singular light source. It looks like a huge, pony-sized mushroom, until it turns to face Moonlight. The bat pony gets startled when he sees that it is actually a pony, with a mushroom cap on his head, with a staff in his hoof, his body glowing just like the mushrooms that guided him here.

"Ooh he he he! Little bat is lost! Lost he is!" He says, pointing his staff at Moonlight.

"Umm, I am a little lost. Who are you?" The bat pony takes a step back, not sure what to expect.

"I am the shroomite of this forest! I know all trees and leaves! Bugs and birds! Entrances and exits! I know this forest! And the forest knows me!" He gestures around, pirouetting with his staff. "And I can share this knowledge, I can!" He points at some bushes, and they spread out, revealing blinding, natural sunlight on the other side, forcing Moonlight to cover his eyes.

"Go on, little bat, go! Fulfill your destiny! Your destiny is to go, mine is to stay! And if fate allows, come visit again!"

Moonlight goes through the bushes, finally emerging on the less dense part of the forest. Looking up, he can see the sky and the balloon with Pinkie and Starlight. He turns back to thank the weird mushroom pony, but the bushes are gone, and no light can be seen through the darkness of the forest left behind. Scratching his head filled with unanswered questions, Moonlight continues on, towards the next obstacle.

[Starlight Glimmer 155]

That’s right this challenge will make the runner choose rather to go forward buuuut.. on the other hooves you can’t see anything!" She giggled, taking notice of Starlight, who had mentioned about the cupcake frosting on her cheek. Using her tongue to lick the spot of frosting away, she grinned as she hummed in delight of the tasty frosting treat. Seeing that Shiny was possibly down for the count, Pinkie closed her eyes as she shared the same worry as her fellow commentator. "It sounded as if Shiny had some advice she wanted to share. Something about Moonlight taking the lead, but I'm not entirely sure why. Unless this could help with the race, but I guess only time will tell!"

As Samurai headed back for Shiny, Pinkie gasped, while her eyes grew to the size of dinner plates. "Hold the phone, fillies and gentlecolts! It looks like Samurai had gone back to make sure that Shiny was safe! Even picking her up and carrying her on his back, while the two make it back to the group! Just like in the superhero cartoons!" Pinkie exclaimed with glee, clapping her front hooves together as if she was watching the old masked hero show live. With Moushley and Socrates arriving in their hot air balloon, Pinkie smiled as she welcomed the duo aboard. "Well, hello there! Would our lovely couple like to stay with us and add into the commentary?"

"Take a look, Pinkie. With the effects of those berries wearing off, Dusk has returned to normal size. Now she can continue to run alongside the others and not worry about getting lost or watching everypony's step. Although, it looks like everypony isn't altogether in this race. Contestant Moonlight seems to have strayed down a different path, while coming across what looks to be some sort of mushrooms. They might be pointing him in a different direction, but where would it lead?" She asks, taking notice of Samurai, who sounded to be singing as he continued down the path with the rope in hoof. "It sounds as if Samurai is singing a tune I might not be familiar with, but I think singing down this dark forest helps to stop any feeling of worry in one's heart." She started, before squinting her eyes as she thought she had seen the rope beginning to disappear. "Uh oh! It looks like the effects of the berries are starting wearing off. I don't think Samurai has any berries to gain the rope back, or to have any other abilities on hoof to help him, as well as the others, through the forest! Let's hope that they can get out of this forest soon!"

"I'm knot sure if the rope will last or not, but hopefully Samurai does knot give up. They should be near the exit, but this forest looks like it's been going on endlessly and endlessly. I can't tell where the forest begins and where it ends." She blinked a few times as she couldn't make heads or tails of this particular part of the forest. Shaking her head vigorously, she looks back to Starlight as she giggled at the realization of her puns. "I know that might not be the best puns or the perfect time for a pun. However, one can use a pun to try and dissolve a potential bad situation. Puns are always so...punny!" Pinkie closed her eyes with a smile. Giggling at the number of puns she made, while remembering that she she was a pony who definitely loved puns. 

Opening up her eyes, she looked over at Moonlight, who Starlight had mentioned of the path he was heading towards. "You're right! The further and further he goes on, the more, and more, and more he meets many, many, many, and many more mushrooms!" She exclaimed, before taking note of Moonlight stopping in place. Pinkie used her binoculars to try and see what exactly Moonlight had stopped in front of. Only to take notice of a pony, who was wearing a mushroom cap on his head. "Whoa! I didn't expect to see another pony in this forest. With that mushroom cap, where's a plumber with a red cap when you need one." She winked to nobody in particular, but was surprised to see the pony had allowed Moonlight to pass. "Well would you take a look at that! Whoever this pony is, they're letting Moonlight to continue on ahead! He's even right underneath our balloon almost!" Pinkie grinned, waving at Moonlight as she was happy to see a familiar face back on the path.

Samurai can't see what every other pony is up to, but he hopes they are doing well. But he did hear @Dusk Haven Dusk, most likely calling out to Shiny, who may still be passed out. Still, he waved to her anyways. Hopefully she can see it in this looming darkness.

For the time being, he just keeps on advancing while mapping out the path with his rope. And while he lays down the path, he sings a little song to himself...

But as he continues down, he feels a strange sensation in the rope. "Uso darou!! Please don't be fading away now. So many racers are depending on this... I hope I can get to the end of the line soon."

Dusk’s eyes caught the faint outline of a rope cutting through the gloom. Subtle vibrations ran along its length — proof it was in use.

She gave it a small tug, feeling it pull back against her grip. “Well,” she muttered with a wry grin, “can’t be worse than standing still.”

With that, she set off, following the rope’s path through the dark with quick, careful steps, curiosity and caution warring in her chest as she wondered who — or what — might be waiting at the other end.
