I've played it loads on the PC and I've got to say its one of the best games I've ever played.

Mine was a bit buggy for a while though but I've fixed most of the problems now.

Oh my god..how did I not see this thread before..

November 10-11, 2011

There I was, standing in the cold for six hours with about 100 other scruffy young teenagers waiting for the doors to open and get the amazing game.

I'm too lazy to type my review of it (that would be around 6000 words long), so here's a picture of me on the topic:

GREAT TEXT WALL OF CHINA AHEAD

I had low hopes this year (Homefront was balls, LA Noire was balls, Brink was balls, etc.), but at Skyrim I was just like...WOAH.

The graphics aren't exactly perfect yes, but it's such a huge and detailed world, for most of the start of the game I found myself just...looking around...then being attacked by wolves...or dragons.

I did expect it to just be Oblivion with combat/skill tweaks and DRAGUNZ!1!!1 But the more I play Skyrim the more I realise it's everything I've wanted in an Elder Scrolls game. The voice acting is decent to good for once, especially for the characters that matter (overhearing a angry conversation between Ulfric Stormcloak and one of his high-up soldiers was so dramatic it made me plotgasm...er...if such a thing were possible).

In fact the characters actually seem rather deep now, of course the majority are still bland, but it amazes me which people fascinate me. I found myself talking to some random Breton store owner for ages just because he was dryly hilarious. That would never happen in Oblivion.

Okay, basically the reason this pleases me so much is that it covers over Oblivion's flaws and bombards you with shitloads of new content to boot. The sounds aren't annoying and repetitive any more, the creatures aren't annoying and repetitive any more, things are generally less annoying and repetitive. In fact, everything is so unique in Skyrim, it surprises me how much bucking time Bethesda had on their hands.

And then there's the attention to detail; every last little book, every last little reference to previous games/quests/acts done by you, every last little racist comment. And the fact unlike Oblivion, this game actually has a REAL element of CHOICE. In fact, the BioWareness of this game shocked me, the good writing, the thrilling and unique plots, the moral dilemmas, even a little betrayal thrown in here and there. Sure it may not seem big compared to some games but for The Elder Scrolls it feels like Todd Howard has just stepped on the bucking moon.

I'm not even going to start on how you can basically just make this game your own. You can literally do whatever the buck you want. Sure I go around being a sneaky prick, stabbing people with dual daggers and scoring headshots with a fire-enchanted bow; but you could seriously just do anything and have similar success. You could be a battlemage, or a heavy-ass knight of the Gods ploughing through the game slaughtering everything unholy in your path (personally I prefer to avoid this route, being a compulsive "MUST TRAVEL LIGHT" kind of person).

TL;DR version: What Zero said.

I supported the developers too, but then I took an arrow in the knee.

But seriously, If I had the money, I would buy every single game just to support them. But I don't so... piracy is second nature to me. http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png

Can't pirate games efficently in Australia, loving that 3Mbp/s download with a 200GB bandwidth cap. Just glorious.

Not only is it supporting a developer..it's legal..

Id like to rant at you, but then i took an arrow to the knee

Id like to rant at you, but i just realised ive pirated loads of CD's over the years i dont want to think how much that would have cost me (Shhhh). Im all for supporting developers if ive got the dosh at the time, but some of these prices are becoming killer. Its pretty much a victimless crime i suppose... as long as not everyone does it.

Anyway, about Skyrim...

Skyrim WAS the game of the year. Let downs like Brink and (Dare i say it?) MW3 nearlly killed it for me this year... So, picking up Skyrim was like a blessing and i found it so enjoyable! That is, until i hit a certain level. After youve done the Theives guild (Twice), Companions guild (Three times), Colledge of Winterhold (Meh, Cba to do that again) and the Dark Brotherhood (Twice) AND explored the **** out of the amazing landscape, your pretty much stumped. Youll enjoy it so much, youll burn through all those things pretty quickly to and then be left thinking "Er, now what?". I NEVER got like this on Oblivion, despite Skyrim being so much better. It just seems to be better, but you can get bored of it much more rapidly than Oblivion... Thats just my and some other people i knows opinions anyway. And im not gonna get started on the glitches.

But there will be DLC! CANT WAIT! HURRY BETHESDA! Hopefully theyll make somthing i can enjoy for a long time! Maybe something that will expand on the story, which i think was ok, it just had a bit of an anti climax when i killed Alduin in one hit thanks to mehrunzes razor...

Sorry to turn this into a bit of a rant  Ive actualy got alot more to say, i just dont want to take up a page. Nerd sighning out!

When I started Skyrim I wanted to make a completely new experience for me!

I usually make a Rouge like character with max sneak max lockpick and steals everything!

But I figured that I had to be different this time around to really enjoy Skyrim!

I made "NOT Davokiin" a dark elf that looks like the most pissed off evil bum in the world!

I decided to not follow any traditional build and make my own style...

My play style focuses on Shield combat, but as the Shield treated as a primary weapon instead of secondary armor. On my second hand I use spells. Shield + Spells! The Armormage!

Essentially I go up to enemies and beat them down with the shield and shoot Icicles or heals. Like a mage-tank of sorts.

Needless to say the awkwardness of the Armormage makes the game rather hard to play which is good I like a challenge! Also running in and shield bashing a dragon's nose in like if you're some sort of magical Captain America!

I'd recommend rolling an Armormage if you really have nothing better to do other than rolling experimental character builds.

[New siggy in progress!]

I started a new game the other day

level 14 (or something?) High Elf (lame I know but I like magic)

weapon: Orcish greatsword

armour: mix of Assassin's and Thief's guild

guilds: Assassins, Thiefs, Companions and also in the Imperial legion (I hate imperials but the quests are fun)

quests: I haven't completed most of guild quests because I'm bad with combat and I'm stuck XD

I think I'm most good at either sneaking or two-handed I'm not sure.

  • 1 month later...

The other day, I found an exploit in Skyrim where I got from speech level 23 to level 100 in about 20 minutes. Go to a guy in Riften, his name starts with a "U" It's something like Ungrien or something... anyway, ask him about Maven Black Briar, and persuade him, it usually gets your speech level up every time you ask him about it.

The Universe, a mystery
The Earth, a puzzle
The Dawn, an enigma...

Heh, I love exploiting Skyrim. My favorite thing to do is go to High Hrothgar and repeatedly hit the Greybeards. Sneaking and hitting them with anything levels you up so quickly, and they never fight back.
