False Perception 482 July 12, 2012 Share July 12, 2012 It would be cool, but if wouldn't do much for the forum. As previously stated, all it would do would turn us against ourselves. If anything, I'm all for a YEARLY one, executed by the moderators and/or "guest judges" (maybe randomly selected users that would remain unknown until after the voting so as to prevent bribery and buttkissing.). I can agree with you there, but I still believe badges could be awarded for certain things. An example of this is a general consensus between moderators around the forums just looking out and watching on certain individuals that stand out from the crowd for certain things. Those fella's could be awarded small things that on a whole don't mean much, but just shows that they do see the effort in what you were seen doing was very outstanding by them which would be awesome to the individual. I still like my art competition idea though. And why you change name AND image now?! Seriously after reading some SCP stuff, I believe you have been contaminated and must be subjugated to a cell and studied, oh mechanical pony of cheesy delights. Killian Jones 2,655 July 12, 2012 Share July 12, 2012 (edited) If you are going to be making a popularity poll, might as well make all the possible awards arbitrary anyway. I mean not having "Most Helpful member", but "Most Likely to Eat Peanut Butter from the Jar" award, and then I can such an idea become much more lighthearted. Because awards are arbitrary anyway. There could be few rules, like members are only pooled into one award and cannot win several and at the very least the awards should not somehow be insulting to the people participating. But nothing should be gained or lost at any rate. At the very least it depends on how mature the community is, and at times, I don't see it as a very entertaining idea. Especially if we box people up too much. like "Best artist", meaning you'd have some arbitrary scale for getting people to vote on things. What constitutes as a rule to get this. Besides, awards on such a large scale would mean lots of voting is needed to get to the bottom of everything. Or be very vague and potentially put things together which don't belong together completely. Like music and digital paintings. So, arbitrary awards would receive my blessing, having serious awards will end up being arbitrary popularity fests anyway. So why not bypass the whole issue and not give a darn. And just make up a reason to give away fancy personalized signatures to some people. EDIT: I want to add however, the current badge system and the brohoof system can easily be seen as an award system by itself, in a sense an award for good behaviour and simply being active. FizzyImp 1,838 July 13, 2012 Share July 13, 2012 I like the idea of having awards, but not for a popularity contest. No matter how mature people will be about someone being voted as 'Best Artist' or 'Best Musician', there will still be plenty of grief hidden between the lines somewhere. I think if we were to have new badges/awards, it'd have to be for stuff like being helpful toward others, or providing good critique on a regular basis. "My breakfast is plotting to kill me." Strawberry Tart 161 July 13, 2012 Share July 13, 2012 (edited) I am well aware of other forums that do this, but should we do a monthly or yearly award to give to members (like a badge or icon for example), so my idea is this, a member of the month, and at the end of this year, we give awards to certain members, like favorite member, funniest member, most helpful, coolest member, etc, and for monthly awards, we vote for a member to be the member of the month and display their name on the site (probably with in the same area with # of members, posts made in all, etc, or maybe the info banner.) What do you think? It would lead to members trying to be helpful, funny, etc. and it would all be forced helpfullness. I say no. I like the idea of having awards, but not for a popularity contest. No matter how mature people will be about someone being voted as 'Best Artist' or 'Best Musician', there will still be plenty of grief hidden between the lines somewhere. I for one would be very jealous about not getting an award like best musician. Especially if I'd put a video of me singing a cover of a song. But what can you do, I'm only human (no Tw*light reference intended). Shift 4,274 July 13, 2012 Share July 13, 2012 I would love to see a program like this. The people on this forum are mature enough to handle it, and if they don't win, they MIGHT will not complain about it. Some will, some won't, but I joined a MLP forum a lot like this with awards and it was completely fine. Actually, it was really fun too. Have the courage to think and act on your own. And have the courage to disobey.
Whiteshade 1,426 July 13, 2012 Share July 13, 2012 I reject all facets. To be honest, I'm most likely too lazy to go for any award, therefore most likely I will win none, therefore it is not relevant to my interests. That is all. Warning: Signature may cause seizures, owner will sue you if you complain Nothing happens, yet everything changes.
Twiliscael 3,961 July 13, 2012 Share July 13, 2012 As good-natured and light-hearted this can seem, I only see it leading to a bunch of butthurt and popularity fights. Tis the nature of being in a community on the internet. However, if this is organized and executed by the site staff ONLY, and not the users, then it could be feasible. Dibs on Wittiest User. Simcity11100 772 July 13, 2012 Share July 13, 2012 I do like the idea, but I'm aware of those who may try really hard to get Member of the month and never get it; I remember trying really hard for two months and never got it on another forum and got upset because someone who wasn't trying as hard to get it got it. Shankveld 4,951 July 13, 2012 Share July 13, 2012 However, if this is organized and executed by the site staff ONLY, and not the users, then it could be feasible. I would rather the members votes than the staff LOL, o.o enough favortism there as it is. ~ I do, too. However, most people would say I was being immature. But whatever :/ I must say, I dislike all the implications that if one brings up any concerns and makes an argument for them, they're immature whiners. Having a legitimate concern =/= being immature. I'm proud to see some member of these froums have the balls to go against the dictation in a mature and respectful manner. ~
