Marijuana, would the Mane Six smoke it?

I'm sorry, I just have to say this. Too many of the posts in this thread are well-intentioned and ill-informed.

Marijuana is NOT physically addictive, nor is it harmful. Zero people have ever died from it. I would be much more offended by alcohol and tobacco on the show, and ESPECIALLY the implications of their use among the mane six. I will not recommend the smoking of cannabis, especially not to kids. But I will not abide bold faced lies about the simple plant just because of its current legal status, nor will I abide the spreading of misinformation based on ignorance.

Now, then, about the topic.

Twilight is an insightful and deep thinker who would definitely find something to like in the right kind of bud. She needs to level out sometimes. Rarity is a creative soul who would probably benefit once in a while from having a slightly altered perspective of her work, sort of a second opinion, but I doubt she would ever bother with it.

Thank you for being the voice of reason I didn't have the guts to be.:P

I can see Spike being a stoner.

Pinkie Pie would be into ecstasy, LSD, DMT, or all the other lovely psychedelic party drugs.

Twilight Sparkle would be the little dork who tells everyone how terrible it is, and would never touch it.

Rainbow Dash wouldn't do anything because she needs to be in top shape for sports.

Apple Jack and Fluttershy wouldn't either, because they're well behaved and smart.

I can personally see Rarity becoming a coke or meth addict, and possibly with an eating disorder, to put up with the stress of her job and the demand that all models and the like are thin.

... I have put too much thought into drugged ponies...

For the record, I for one am completely aware that marijuana isn't physically addictive, hasn't killed anyone, and that in the hierarchy of drugs and the act of smoking things, it's one of the lesser dangers, if not the least dangerous.

Still doesn't change my opinion that ponies don't need it, and that I'd never find myself in a situation in which I'd want to see any of them having anything to do with it.

I for one would like to see where you got this info. I'm sorry but no matter what website I visit, no matter if it says that pot is as bad as cigarettes or not, it always says that it can do harm in some way and even can cause cancer. I have yet to find any info regarding what you just said. So please. Show me where you found this.

Anyway on topic, I actually can't see them doing it now that I think about it. With Twilight around, its probably unlikely.

The amount of judgement and lack of factual knowledge about the cause and affect of pot in this thread is too damn high! ~

]

Pot has no unhealthy sidefects, excpet for mild coughing. It can also be used as a very effective treatment for limes disease, tourettes, cancer, and a bunch of other really bad crap that I forget.

Just doing my part for weed ignorance

Drugs don't exist in Equestria, what a dumb question, plus the mane 6 are law abiding citizens.

No, I think that Twilight would inform everypony of all the dangers there is in smoking marijuana, and then nopony would ever touch that stuff.

And then they would be stubborn and not take her advice.

I'm probably going to have to run for cover after this...

But.... http://www.joint-rol...-and-facts.html

I will say that most people start off using any illegal drug and alcohol to escape from reality (Narcotic pain med users started out taking it for pain, and got hooked). They all numb reality, I that's the appeal. I could go on and on but I won't (I took a few courses in Addictionology after I spent my childhood with a drug addicted mother)

Smoking anything is inherently bad for you, period. And indeed, some studies have shown that marijuana may contain more carcinogens in it than tobacco does. (But who smokes a pack of joints a day?) In addition, long term use has shown to perhaps increase chances of mental disorders (schizophrenia and the like.) So technically, yes, marijuana can potentially be damaging to your health. However, these studies are not proven, and the fact of the matter is, out of all the recreational drugs out there, marijuana is without a doubt, the least dangerous. It does not deserve to be lumped in with all the other popular drugs out there, and certainly should not be illegal, in my humble opinion. Alcohol is way more addictive, and way more dangerous, yet it's so loosely regulated pretty much any idiot out there of age can buy it and harm himself and others.

It just bothers me, and many others, that kids are being lied to about the effects of this drug. They deserve to know the truth.

I think Twilight would be too caught up on "reefer madness" brand of information to actually try bud. As demonstrated in Feeling Pinkie Keen, her no-nonsense attitude doesn't really click with any new-age type philosophies, and I feel like the benefits and true nature of pot would fall into that category, thus being lost on her. Scientific research on pot is limited, since its drug classification as a Schedule I substance prevents research to be done. And scientific research and hard facts are kind of Twilight's thing. I see her more as the fifth grader who just got home from DARE day at school, lecturing everybody on the evils of drugs.

So let me get this straight. What you are saying is that it that there is actually a chance of it being bad. While I agree if its not as bad as cigarettes then is shouldn't be illegal, (Though I don't agree with it anyway), if it still has a chance of causing harm then really it shouldn't be done. Its better to be safe then sorry. This is kinda what I thinking about. That pretty much shows why Twilight wouldn't want her friends smoking it. She wouldn't want them to get hurt if there was a chance. Also, I can understand why they would lie. If they didn't, then kids would have more of a chance of taking it, and few parents want to see a chance of them getting hurt.

But you're missing the point. Is there a chance it could harm you? Of course, just like darn near everything on this Earth. Driving a car is dangerous. Walking up and down stairs is dangerous. Snow skiing is dangerous, flying in a plane is dangerous... But we don't make these things illegal or (I hope not, anyway) tell kids lies about these things so as to perhaps coax them away from them.

The entire point is, the dangers of smoking marijuana are highly over-exaggerated, as to make it appear very dangerous, when there's really no more chance of danger in using it then there is in leaving your house and going to work.

It would never happen, and in all honesty really probably shouldn't, but an episode of MLP dealing with such a situation (I have no clue how they could make it child-friendly) and having the actual facts come out instead of the propaganda and lies our governments and media spurt out to this target audience, would be huge for several reasons, not the least of which it would mean someone, somewhere in power finally decided to take a step in the right direction.

Okay so I am going to voice my opinion because I am a little ticked off right now. It does not matter whether weed is harmful or not, weed is a drug. It makes you act/feel different from what you normally are like if you are not on it, yes or no? Why do you need some sort of vice that makes false induced feelings for what an hour or two? Why can't you just live life above the influence of substances that induce false feelings of euphoria? It doesn't matter how you justify it a drug is a drug.

To each their own. It's not just false feelings of euphoria. It changes the way you view things, and enables you to think in ways that you haven't before. It's not for everybody. But it can be beneficial.

A fair request. I found this article, which lays it out pretty clear.

http://www.webmd.com/lung-cancer/news/20060523/pot-smoking-not-linked-to-lung-cancer

Considering all the things that may or do cause cancer nowadays, I think this says a lot.

Also I can tell you that frankly I have smoked a great deal of marijuana myself and it has never affected my life in a negative way.

I'm starting to change my opinion after reading all of this.

On topic:

Twilight - probably won't even try it out of fear

RD - not sure here. While I could see her being excited to try something new, I am unsure of her reaction to her senses being less accurate while under influence of it...

Like cosmic charlie I've had years of "experience" with mary jane (I quit awhile ago and have been sober for almost 6 months) and I've never come across any negative side effects. It is a misunderstood and horribly slandered drug, one that is safer than alcohol and tobacco (I do not condone the smoking of weed, being a reformed addict I wouldn't want any one to fall into the trap I was in, however, I think it is ludircrous that our society accpets alcohol as "legal" when it causes more harm, more deaths and a mirriad of other problems compared to weed.)

Switching back to the topic at hand, honestly I think all of them would try it at least once, but I think Twilight would be the most likely to use. Having numerous anxiety issues (something I can relate too) she would find that weed helps to calm her down and provide her with the ability to stabilize her mind (again I can relate, I smoked because it helped to control my anxiety and panic attacks, as well as other issues). The other candidates would be dashie and fluttershy (again weed helps with extreme shyness). As for pinkie, I doubt should would use long term, as it would curb her ability to party and I doubt Rarity would smoke as it would impact her ability to design.

Lastly, in regards to the weed debate there are a tremendous amount of medical benefits (ie. pain management for cancer patients, increased appetite for eating disorders, pain management for patients who cannot take pain killers...) and it would be great to see the medical community continue to utilize and evolve marijuana for medical purposes.

*again I do not condone the smoking of weed, but I'm not against it, in fact I think it should be legalized.
