Kirby Super Star Ultra is a really challenging but at the same time, fun, game. Also underrated; on Youtube I barely see any runs of it. Kirby Super Star basically takes all the credit...

(No, Kirby ain't childish. Play the game yourself)

At the time I played it, Minecraft was a pretty underrated one :D

Also, Civilisation IV. Seems hell underrated to me considering how great that game is.

Braid is really the only underrated game I've fully played. It wasn't exactly underrated but people didn't give it the appreciation that it needed.

But I only really play Nintendo games and they don't really get underrated

I like video games!

9 Little Samson NES (OH, specially this one, check it out if you have the chance)

(With no specific order)

As soon as I saw the thread title, I went to it specifically to mention Little Samson. Seriously, I can't begin to express what an injustice it is that the game is so obscure. I mean, the conditions around its release explain the obscurity, but it's just so...so good.

Bulletstorm and MotorStorm. I think both games are underrated because of the two games like Bulletstorm, which allows me to kill enemies in creative ways like Sparta-kicking them off the ledge and flattening them to death with the Thumper, and MotorStorm because, even though the game is only 5 years old, it's still a good racing game, despite it not having an online feature anymore.

Bushido Blade 2 on the PSX. I just love Samurai Duels, using Swords or Spears, no needing to follow the Bushido Code in this game, though I must get used to the characters using guns. Of course there are boss fights as well, and I love playing it in POV mode which makes it awesome.

I'm gonna add Zelda Minish Cap to my personal picks as well. In this case, it's not that a lot of people haven't played it as much as it is that I think a lot of the people who have played it write it off too quickly for it's forgiving difficulty.

Yeah, it's an easy game. It's also a very fun game with tons of polish and, despite the low dungeon count, a lot of stuff to do.

Likewise, Oracle of Seasons/Ages should be mentioned. Before Skyward Sword, I considered these two my favourite of the franchise. Super creative, tons of secrets and stuff to do, easily among the best games on the Game Boy Color.

Speaking of Game Boy Color, Power Quest. Charming little fighting game with a steep difficulty curve.

For me i would say Luigi's Mansion for gamecube and Halo Wars for 360.Luigi's mansion was the first game i played, good times i had with that game.As for halo wars, i always liked the concept of creating an army to fight the enemy.

Resonance of Fate for the 360 and PS3. One of the most unique RPGS out there. Its battle system was never seen before and it made the game quite hard, but in a good way. LOTS of stragery is required in this game...otherwise you'll get your ass kicked

  • 7 years later...

Sonic Chaos on the Game Gear. It's a fairly short game, but I still think it's a fun time and has some interesting ideas. It was also the first Sonic game where the player could fly as Tails, since before this, only the AI had that ability. I used to play this for hours as a kid, until either the battery died out or my hands got sore.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

I never liked Sonic Chaos.

I am a huge fan of the first game, Sonic 1 for Game Gear/Master System. It is quite sluggish, but it has the elements and style of the original (the Genesis Sonic 1 game), so I have always accepted the game as an original

6 ways to play doctor.

From left to right:

First Response with Maria Torres: Stabilize multiple victims before they can be sent via Ambulance

Diagnostics with Gabriel Cunningham: Figure out what's wrong with the patient

Forensics with Naomi Kimishima: Figure out how the victim died, with a slight touch of Ace Attorney style to some part of it

Surgery with CR-S01: Use your surgery tools to save a patient's life

Endoscopy with Tomoe Tachibana: Using a special probe, fix a patient from within the body

Orthopedics with Hank Freebies: fixing broken bones

All the doctors come together to stop a deadly pandemic. Has some feel moments in its story, especially in the Forensics section, where once all the evidence is gathered, they're used to put together the sad stories of how each victim died

The 8-bit version of Sonic 1 was pretty good for what it was and had it's own share of memorable levels. It wasn't just a dumbed down port of a game that was on better hardware either, so it gets some creative points. It's much better than Sonic 2 on Game Gear, which was way too difficult.

It is also the unique levels Bridge Zone and Jungle Zone that have very cool designs and music. And Labyrinth Zone has a really dark theme and music to it which I love as well. The game is a huge inspiration to me, and I am very picky when it comes to Sonic games, and almost always choose the official games... So I would only accept Sonic 1 for Genesis if I was completely strict, but I am not.

As for Sonic Chaos, it is looking like they tried everything to makes it look and feel like Sonic 2 for Genesis, but it doesn't have anything that I can relate to.

Yeah, the whole soundtrack was pretty solid. I'd even go as far as saying that it rivals the Mega Drive version. Bridge Zone is quite well known, since it's really catchy.

Sonic Chaos had interesting ideas, but it was too short to capitalise on them. Playing as Tails also feels a bit unnecessary, since you can't even get the Chaos Emeralds with him. Did you ever play Sonic Blast?

I never touched Sonic Blast. It have heard terrible things!

The Master System had some crazy difficult hardware limitations, like not being allowed to scroll vertically. I know that Game Gear probably fixed this, but I feel Sonic 1 (which was first written for Master System) had a disadvantage from the beginning. The music composer for Sonic 1 MS/GG was Yuzo Koshiro, that later got famous for the Street of Rage series music.

Me neither, but from what I've seen, I'm glad I haven't.

Huh, that's interesting. One of the acts in Jungle Zone had you climbing up, so that's pretty impressive if they managed to get past those limitations.

Yea, every Act 2 had some gimmick to it. Bridge Zone Act 2 was a horizontal auto scroller, and Jungle Zone had the vertical climbing.

Looking closely at the other act 2's, Scrap Brain had the level divided into two maps (you ran into a big doorway, or took one of the cool teleporters) and the screen faded into another map.

Sky Base Act 2 was onboard a blimp.

I really like this story telling aspect, which didn't happen until Sonic 3 for the official games

Not a lot of people know Sky Odyssey.

Sky Odyssey is a casual flight simulator that was released on the PS2 in 2000. This game feels similar to Pilotwings, with plenty of challenge-based gameplay.

The main difference is the adventure mode which takes you on a journey across a group of islands, where human settlements are few and far between, in order to find the mythical lost tower of Maximus which is said to be found on one of the four islands. With a small airplane as your only mode of transportation, you must gather map fragments across the forbidden landscape in order to find the lost tower, whole navigating harsh weather conditions and occasional rockslides. Some of the missions require you to get from point A to point B, occasionally with... a twist. You can see for yourself as early as the second mission. Some missions require you to take off, complete a task, and then return to where you took off from. And there are even some hidden goodies in each mission that you can find if you are willing to explore a little.

The game also features a Target mode, in which you fly your aircraft through a set of targets in the sky before time runs out, and--my favorite of the two--a Sky Canvas mode in which you fly through a set of rings as your plane emits colored smoke. Complete the mission, and you'll be see the picture you have drawn in the sky. There is a Training mode that teaches you various flight techniques that may be of use in Adventure mode. Lastly, the game features a Free Flight mode, which allows you to fly around every area you have unlocked in the adventure mode. You can choose a time of day and experiment with flying in different weather conditions.

Sky Odyssey features a variety of small aircraft. Some are unlockable. In Adventure mode, as you journey across the islands, you can periodically upgrade your plane, as well as recolor it and decorate it. You may find that certain aircraft and upgrades make certain missions easier to complete.

Perhaps the coolest thing about this game is the soundtrack. Composer Kow Otani absolutely steals the show in Sky Odyssey. You may have heard his work before if you have watched anime series like Outlaw Star or Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.

Sky Odyssey is beautiful. The graphics are obviously dated, because this was a very early PS2 title (it came out less than a month after the PS2 launched in North America), and it takes a bit of time to get a feel for controlling your aircraft, but it absolutely makes up for that.

I haven't played this game in 7 years after my PS2 died on me, but it felt so rewarding and I cherish it to this day. It deserves a cult following.

Stubbs the Zombie is one of my favorite underrated gems.

s-l640.jpg

I did a review of it on this site. A game where you actually play as a zombie, eating brains and making more zombies to eat more brains and make more zombies! It is SO FUN. Plus the style is awesome, taking place in a futuristic 1950's. It had a great soundtrack, some really good humor and just fun gameplay. All available in co op too. :D Only huge downfall the game had was its length, I beat it twice the same day I got it, but I still played it over and over. Really wish it could come back to the spotlight somehow.

That's just one of many.

I guess my post is underrated. No reaction on it.
