To complicate things further, the speed of sound is not universal. It is different, based on temperature, pressure and other factors. This means that if Rainbow Dash is flying Mach 1 at 5000 feet above sea level, she is actually moving at a different speed than Sonic running at Mach 1 at sea level.

I'm a huge fan of both, but I believe Sonic could beat Dash. He runs at the speed of sound, and is named: "The fastest thing alive." Plus, the chaos emerald turn him Super Sonic, making him even faster, and having the ability to fly. But it doesn't mean Rainbow will totally lose. She can fly all the time, and has the Sonic Rainboom by her side. I just think Sonic would win by a little bit.

I personally would say it would be a tie... but then again Idk for sure lol like I said earlier it'd be cool if someone did a legit crossover race episode. RD & Sonic are Both badass in my book... After watching both the death battles for Sonic and Rainbow Dash, I did wonder who would be the fastest.

 

If you ask me I think Rainbow Dash is faster.

Actually this had made me thinking... I mean Rainbow Dash can fly... Not just fly but fly really freaking fast at that! Sonic in normal state is a force to be reckoned with... But sonic seems to have more limitations than Rainbow Dash... So I believe that Rainbow Dash would most certainly win in (most) cases.

I'm bringing this to a mathematical perspective. Thanks to physicists in both fandoms, we know the average top speed and perks of each competitor to compare.

 

Rainbow Dash has been shown in the show to have a top normal speed average around Mach 5, which is 5 times the speed of sound, or 3,806 mph. This is only reached through diving however, so straight away speeds hover around Mach 3 or 2,283 mph. From a full rest, she has been shown to accelerate to speeds exceeding 2,000 mph within the span of 100 yards.

 

Rainbow Dash has been shown to survive even the highest of G-forces, once pulling a hairpin turn clocking at 1,776 Gs.

 

When Rainbow Dash breaks the 5 mach barrier, she breaks the light spectrum and creates the sonic rainboom, effectively doubling her top speed to Mach 10, or 7,612 mph, or 2.11 miles per second.

 

Sonic the Hedgehog on the other hand, surprisingly stands little chance on normal ground, reaching average top speeds just above Mach 1 for the most part, but when he pushes himself, he has been shown to exceed Mach 3.

 

However, Sonic has a few perks that allow him to stand a chance. He is able to reach light-speed, but only for short bursts and dashes. Sonic also has incredible stamina, allowing him to remain at top sprinting speed for extended periods of time. The last gambit he would have to defeat Rainbow Dash (and probably the only one that would work) would be his Super Sonic form, which for short bursts can exceed light-speed, and average full top-speed is unknown but is speculated to remain somewhere above Mach 15. The only problem is that the form is active for a limited time, and it drains Sonic's stamina.

 

And with all these facts on the table, I put my money on Rainbow Dash. Given that Sonic isn't given an infinite amount of rings and Super Sonic form from the get go, Dashie would easily outfly Sonic, even if he received Super Sonic later on. Not to mention, Sonic also is shown to be vulnerable to abnormally high winds, which is a weather pattern that I could easily see Rainbow placing in Sonic's path.

Exactly my thoughts at the end of the day! After reading through all these posts and thinking... I mean Rainbow Dash can "fly" at unbelievable speeds. Sonic is very fast as well its just that he has alot more limitations than when it comes to rainbow dash.

rainbow dash is definately faster, and rainbow dash could kill sonic because she is stronger. Remember the episode where rainbow dash kicked the dragon. Ya, well, it would be almost impossible to move at least 5 tons of head.
