In a normal, usual setting, Sonic would have to fight the terrain to keep his speed. Dashie on the other hand, would have far less trouble soaring through the air. So while Sonic has to go through any obstacles or uneven surfaces on land, Dashie is going to be burnin' off over the horizon.

 

Even on flat land though, Sonic has to fight gravity and aerodynamics more-so than Dashie. If the two ever got tired, Dashie could just glide for a while to regain strength, but Sonic couldn't just put his legs in auto-mode or anything...

 

Undoubtedly, Dashie would win a race between the two.

RD had trouble breaking the sound barrier.

Sonic can easily run at the speed of sound and beyond, and can even surpass the speed of light.

if anyone hasn't watched my little physics presentation i highly recommend it!!!

He does three show scenarios and one of them is the rainboom and using kinomatics he proves that she is traveling at like

1000/m per second, so much faster than sonic the hedgehog's speed of sound

Rainbow dash is faster than light and can fly fast enough to kill herself and give her friends puberty...

They are both very fast, but Rainbow Dash can fly; however Rainbow Dash has to build up speed while Sonic can go at the speed of sound right off the bat,they both have fast relexes too, (Not sure if I should count Super Sonic in this; as it could be too one sided.)

At last, someone tackles this question!

Hmm...

 

Well, based off of old knowledge and common sense.

 

RD has the 'Sonic Rainboom' BUT that's just a glorified sonic boom that Sonic can pull off easily.

I reckon, over a sprint, Sonic would win - as said, instant acceleration.

Also taking into account the flying problem, in all Sonic's things he can hop, dash, wall-kick and several other stunts, including the 'Buzzsaw' (Aosth!) Meaning he would still need solid ground to race on, unlike RD, but he could manage very staggered terrain. (I'm thinking Windy valley here.)

 

Also, they are both indestructible, Sonic has been beaten up by several different evil dudes, shot, and actually killed at one point.

RD has been smacked by a dragon, mentally crushed by a chaos deity (Which sonic has too!) and seems to crash almost uniformly.

 

All-in-all, it would depend on terrain, motivation, Power (Element, Chaos emeralds...I'm guessing element does something)

 

they have both beaten Chaos, Sonic took him on single-handedly and crushed him with the power of the Chaos emeralds

RD took her place as 'loyalty' and helped turn Discord to stone.

 

 

They're pretty well balanced, and both blue.

At some point Pinkie calls Dash a 'Blue Blur' - That happens to be Sonic's nickname too!

They both think of themselves as overkill cool. Sonic: "Way past cool!"

Dash: "Ehh, needs to be about 20% cooler."

Sonic by a long shoot, Rainbowdash needs to pick up some speed first and use gravity to brake the sound barrier, while sonic can do so right off the bat and continue to pick up speed after.

the only way Rainbowdash could win is if Sonic's OCD gets the better of him and he come across some gold ring

I do believe he's faster than Rainbow Dash, as it was stated before that Sonic is as fast as the speed of sound, while Rainbow Dash can only achieve this with the Sonic Rainboom.

Afterthoughts have been had!

 

We've witnessed both of them break the sound barrier limit.

We've watched them both get beaten up by ancient Chaos deities.

We've never witnessed RD doing a 'Spinball' though, or a 'Buzzsaw'

1# Start: Green Hill Zone, through Blue Ridge Zone, then Ancient Chaos palace, finishing at Central City, Tails' lab.

2# Take portal to Equestria from Tails' lab. Start: Canterlot, through length of EverFree forest, then through Ponyville, Finishing in Cloudsdale. (Contestants must get to the end by ANY MEANS POSSIBLE! No touching the other competitor or deviating from the designated track, marked out by Rings to start with, then by Apples, and Jack o' Lanterns at night.)

These calculations are very flawed, as the Mach cone that appears around rainbow dash that is used to calculate her speed happens before she performs a sonic rainboom. This is a clear violation of the laws of physics, and the chance of this being her actual speed is pretty much impossible. All we know is she broke the sound barrier, and no more. Since sonic can go faster after breaking the speed barrier, sonic would win.

Actually in the original, i'm refering to sega genesis v1, his shoes are what makes him run so quickly, aannnnnnd.... He can run AT the speed of sound.

You may be thinking of the remastered, or a later version of sonic, not his debut.

 

and yes she does say that, but we are referring to the formula that proves her speed, not her verbal comment.

in general everything is flawed ^^ the show contradicted it by stating her speed, and her actual speed, sonic contradicts himself by getting faster as the decades went on ^^ all i'm saying bro.
