At what point does obsessing about ponies become "unhealthy"?

Well I guess it starts to get unhealthy when you stay up all night on a my little pony forum and sleep like four hours.

...Like me.

and I thought I was the only one... but I dont think it can get unhealthy unless it has a negative affect on you. I personally only just got super involved in the show again when I joined the forums now I cant sleep easily but not just because of the show mostly cause I used to spend my entire nights playing video games but I do sleep a bit better because when I do sleep I dream about a life in ponyville and thats what my new fan fic is based off but now Im starting to get off topic and this topic got a lot longer then I intended so Let me wrap it up It should be healthy as long as it doesnt have any negative affects on your life.

If you ask me, the biggest sign is when you start dressing up as Pinkie Pie and run around town breaking into peoples home and trying to become their friends.

Thats might be the point when u become unhealthy.

As long as you don't rub this in people's faces, your fine. I mean, of course you can talk to people about it, but don't overload them with it. There's nothing wrong for looking at the pony memes or anything. I do too! :3 Well, everyone almost does!

Plus, you seem like a smart person. If you were obsessed, you'd be going crazy by now. :P You just need to know when to not talk about ponies, and when you can.

But it would still be okay if you dresses up as Pinkie Pie and walked around town singing along with Come On Everypony, Smile Smile Smile.

Thanks PixiGlow for my PINKTASTIC SIG!!! Cute Avatar made by Dragonshy!

Though you are shy and sweet, and I bake every treat, everyone has differences,

even best friends, but I can't see the differences in you and me, my friend (formerly Pinkie Pie Rocks)

You're only one good thing, and dreams are never worth a thing, my Fluttershy. ~Pinkie Pie

Well it's "unhealthy" when it starts affecting your health duh! But if your staying up all nigh and watching MLP its bad, mkay, don't do that, staying up all night is bad, mkay.

On a more serious note as long as your life isn't all about it and your enjoying other things, spending time with family, (this is a big one and can be hard sometimes) and going outside, then you should be fine.

good question because if you look at it, its somthing rely hard to do unless you try to or are awear of it but dont care. the only thing i can see unhealthly about it is if a brony devotion to the show become rabid to the point of fanboyism.

I know some people would say it when a bronie decides to the c word, but that isnt anywere near unhealthy

Well just to get a professional opinion I went to a psychiatrist that my friend recommended. When I arrived I basically told him of the fandom and the reasons I'm visiting him. In response he started Laughing his bucking flank off! He told my I wasn't crazy besides the fact that I watch and adore a show that's target demographic is young girls. He told me to stop watching the show and laugh one more time with a GTFO face. I sat there for another minute with a super poker face. At that point he started slandering ponies so I did what I thought would be a normal and calm reaction.

Me: Eeyup, go buck yourself...

Him: WHAT did you just say? Go buck myself? (laughs uncontrollably)

Me: ... (walked up and flipped his desk over and left)

Me: by the way this office needs to be at least 20% cooler!

In summary all of you have more sense than a college trained physiatrist that has a PHD geared toward helping "unhealthy" addictions!

To all of you who have posted so far you deserve a in text brohoof.

Possibly If a 17 year old Guy thinks to possibly ask his mother to teach him how to sow so he can make a Luna Plush...

nah but I'm a little lazy so I'll just save some $$$ and buy one.

Well look what we have here. Another question to be answered. Well this time I am asking you people, when does a person reach the point where it is considered either physically or mentally unhealthy?

During the first weeks of my pony discoveries I was intrigued to dig in deeper into the subject and the fandom surrounding it. 2 months later I found myself making many references to the show and memes completely out of subconscious habit.

Skip forward another month and I catch myself using the shows lingo and say occasionally "Holy Celestia"! Another month passes by and I'm listening to brony made songs while falling asleep, much like a lullaby. In the current time I have read over 200+ fanfiction, (I almost never go under 80000 words in my searches) constantly make random pony jokes and draw (poorly) anything pony related, and on top of all that I can't seem to stop fantasizing about going to equestria or performing some of my favorite songs to the mane six and other ponies!

To restate the question, where does this become unhealthy? I'm guessing I have reached that point. Anybody have a idea what the scale is for unhealthy obsessions?

I don't really see the problem with anything you described, except maybe the part where you can't stop fantasizing about going to Equestria, and as long as you're aware it's not going to happen and you're okay with that, than I don't see the problem. Honestly, you're fine. When you start trying to build a portal to Equestria out of your big screen TV, then it's time to take a break from ponies.

It become unhealthy when you obsess over them to the point of them controlling your life.

when you post about nothing about ponies, taking the "love and tolerance" thing seriously and god forbid making people watch the show.

I think the fandom crosses into something unhealthy when you find yourself ordering a certain Lyra plushie.

good thing I don't have to worry about that. Lyra isn't the best pony to me.

I could sow right now (This house has sewing equipment and supplies) and make a small Plush if I wanted too but I am seriously unskilled.

Now if you start to lose interest in real human ladies and start wanting to date Cartoon horses instead then we have a problem

I'm slowly developing that problem -_-

I sorta have this problem. I really like Applejack a lot. Actually, I downright love her TBH, so much to the point I seriously want to meet a girl like her in real life and have her as mah girlfriend, even mah wife if things would go to plan. It's an obsession that is only unique to her, but it makes me feel wierd at times. Still, I live in the South, and blonde girls with Southern accents are quite common down here, so that should help with things.

Other than that, I seem to be fine.

How are you going to make a plushie with SOWING equipment? Are you going to clear the ground and plant tiny seeds? Wouldn't it be better to use SEWING equipment?

Like most people said if it's stopping you from living a normal life and it's getting in the way of your relationships etc. Then it's safe to assume it has become unhealthy and some time is needed away from the problem.

Yes, I agree with you.

Which also means this pandemic with social distancing was the perfect timing to discover MLP :>

The weakened individual can be easily manipulated and influenced. Making the person prone to ideological currents that can override the identity of the soul, halting its forward spiritual movement though means of counteractive polarization. Similar to what has been done on earth with the concept of currency, government, military, politics, religion, media. A false dichotomy instituted by self-proclaimed gods that have usurped the place of creators. Looping within a cycle of illusive power struggle that ultimately ends where it begins. As these are means to slow down the vibratory rate of the incarnate soul, to keep it locked within a cell of slowed down light that is perceived as three-dimensional reality.
But any form of influence can be taken to harmful extents. In a reductive system like this, treading the borders of obsession and fanaticism can be dangerous because of the insidious outside, and inside, control forces that actively seek to coerce the human consciousness from its origin, with a constant bombardment of distortive information that aims to misrepresent the universe by censoring your awareness.

If you are so easily influenced, I would suggest to distance yourself from this system, and to become more attuned with earth, to listen within yourself. Because it is only you who has the answer, user who posted this question in 2012 and probably has not frequented this site since 2018...

When it takes over your life to the point where you neglect things like health, family, friends, work, school, etc. That's the point where you need to take a step back and re-evaluate things.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.
