Not totally sure how you've somehow noticed PinkieDash above all the AppleDash (<3) and other popular Dash pairings that are favorites among numerous board members. I notice all of it, really. Not everything needs to be spelled out to be possible, in fact, nothing needs to be spelled out to be possible! I won't deny that The HUB probably doesn't intend for any of the mane-six to be homosexual, but here's the catch: 'Friendship is magic' is a show that has spent several episodes preaching about tolerance and understanding, and as such they have established a number of characters that portray various branches of society. It's not exactly a stretch of the imagination to assume there are gay/lesbian/bisexual ponies in Ponyville. As a matter of fact, considering that they are emulating a society, it would be unrealistic to assume otherwise. Going from a writer's perspective, it's a common practice to not literally spell out every aspect of a character so people can have their alternate interpretations of said character. Coupled with the fact that people (fans) tend to prefer having a decent amount of variation in terms of characteristics, it means that: yes, one or two of the main characters might be depicted as homosexual in fan works. Why Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash? Well, Rainbow Dash is clearly the tomboy of the group and as such she is most easily considered the non-straight friend out of the six, and by extent she more often than not finds herself shipped with pretty much anyone in the MLP universe. As for the pairing with Pinkie Pie... I have to say, I haven't noticed this all that much, tend to see Twilight Sparkle/Rainbow Dash more often because, guess what, Twilight is the plot-central pony of the series, so she also is likely to be thrown into a relationship. But I digress, I believe the Pinkie/Dash pairing spawned from one of two things: - the episode of the series with Gilda - the 'Cupcakes' fanfic (I know... you may find it weird and/or unsettling, but that doesn't make it any less likely) Also, as some additional mind candy, consider this for a while. Equestria (or Ponyville at the very least) suffers from a severe lack of stallions. Just a rough estimate, but I'm guessing the male:female ratio is 1:20 at the very least. Sure the argument could be made that there's a certain amount of polygamy going on, but keeping in line with the series theme of appreciation of those close to you, (and the fact that all canon pairings in the series so far are monogamous couples,) I think it's safe to assume that polygamy is just as subdued in Equestria as it is in the real world. Evilshy 5,091 July 30, 2012 Share July 30, 2012 I used to be part of the shipping game (Another fanbas) and here's one of my ideas from my time in it: Shippers tend to take the pair of characters that spend time with each other, (Such as go through an adventure, and not have many clashing whatever(Sometimes the opposite, they are different in every whatever) ) and, if enough of that happens for that romance seaperson's likings, they will see it as a very possible relationship. They will then usually proceed to making fanfics, fanart, and other stuff I don't really know/care about. You have that all wrong. Shippers tend to take some number of characters that may or may not have any interaction whatsoever in the series at all and turn it into a relationship. Because everybody will get shipped with everybody else. It is inevitable. Case and point: Golden Sun. There is a named ship, as well as at least one fanfic, for pretty much every single possible combination of 2 named characters. There are also some unnamed NPCs in there, as well as quite a few ships involving 3, or even 4 characters, not to mention the few where characters are shipped with inanimate objects, such as roofshipping. I will admit that many of them are jokes, and nobody actually thinks they're legit pairings. God I love the GS fanbase Signature now 99% less edgy! Usually RD gets paired with Soarin', Spitfire, Applejack, and on occassion, Twilight (at least from what I've gathered from the shipping that I usually encounter or see getting posted on the forums). But really, at this point, I've been in the community long enough to not get surprised by any strange shipping pairs. Heck, once, and I'm not even joking, someone posted that they'd read a Gummy/Twist shipfic. Yeah... some ponies are really, really, really weird!!! "You'll hunt me.
