Lord Pretty Pie 64 August 6, 2012 Share August 6, 2012 I used to be pretty bad about this when I first started. My thoughts were, "I may be annoying as hell right now, but eventually they will cave and watch it, which they wont do without such drastic prodding. Once they see it, they will thank me for my persistence." The problem with this approach is, I know a lot of people who are just as stubborn as me. Recently I find I actually have better luck with letting them get curious and asking me about it. Answer their questions and the merits of the show will come through on their own. That reminds me of an old saying... "You catch more flys with honey than with vinegar." "Hater's hate did create, that which they all feared. It is they we have to thank, for it is us they engineered."~ Me"Eventually!"~ Also Me "Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being 'grown up', to admire the 'grown up' because it is 'grown up', to blush at the suspicion of being childish; These are the marks of childhood and adolescence. When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be 'Very Grown Up'."~ C.S. Lewis
Opalicious 799 August 6, 2012 Share August 6, 2012 When the Europeans discovered America, Catholics traveled there to convert people to Catholicm. It's the same with Ponyism. ZOMGitzKRYS 0 August 6, 2012 Share August 6, 2012 (edited) Not to be a hipster but I'd prefer that it didn't spread... Stop letting the internet leak. That is how memes become wrongly used and you get all these bandwagoners. The shirts being at hot topic kind of kills me a little inside. Hot Topic is where cool comes to die. sirseansy 87 August 6, 2012 Share August 6, 2012 because it is SOOOOO satisfying to bring people into the fandom and grow it. Also, deep down most of us are trolls. That's where the brony trend began initially and it hasn't really died. The irony of enjoying a show that is made for young girls is just as sweet now as it was back then. I'm pretty cool. I think. Also, new OC (it has a cutie mark this time!).
SugarSprinkledFox 69 August 6, 2012 Share August 6, 2012 I mention it a lot because I want someone else to talk to about it. Not that I want to shove it down everyones throat and "make the brony community bigger".
Homura Akemi 974 August 7, 2012 Share August 7, 2012 It's because My Little Pony makes bronies happy, and people like to be happy with people similar to them, especially with similar interests.
Mr. Jaguar 1,403 August 7, 2012 Share August 7, 2012 If you like something enough you may want other people to enjoy it as well, people you know and like. Like, let's say you started playing a new video game, you're like "wow this game is great, I wonder if my best friend johnny will like it as well?" and then you attempt to get him to try it out. Don't see anything wrong with that as long as you don't continue to pester your friend, or family member, to try it out after they've told you they have no interest in it. I don't think I've really seen that many extremists who are obsessed with making people watch the show and like it.
Cherry Blossom 864 August 7, 2012 Share August 7, 2012 It's like trying to tie haters down and force them to reform and watch this video 24/7 wanting to talk to somepony about something after they have been interested in it. You all have the feeling where there is something you are really interested in and you just want to just have a conversation and talk about? I mean it's pretty cool to talk to other bronies about episodes and the characters. Acheron187 1 August 7, 2012 Share August 7, 2012 If people are curious about it I'll tell them, but otherwise I keep it to myself. I've seen some pretty messesd up things too, like someone calling themselves a true brony while hating on Furries. A a fandom that is just like ours, the difference being the point of interest. Happysalesman 23 August 8, 2012 Share August 8, 2012 Well, since I only know two bronies, (and even then, I met them online) it's kind of lonely. I mean, people naturally want to be around other people who have similar interests, because we love sharing experiences. I don't personally go around trying to convert every person I meet, but if I have a conversation and ponies comes up, I'll suggest it. What's wrong with suggesting something to someone? Danny Hollow 57 August 9, 2012 Share August 9, 2012 I can't understand why people do that in the USA, but I'm from Colombia, and there aren't many bronies here, so I'm basically trying to get more latin american people to join the herd, even if this country isn't as open-minded as other ones, I think that that's the most efficent way to, i don't know, maybe don't feel so lonley, and also because even if i enjoy writting and speaking in English i get quite nervous that i don't make myself clear, so most of the times i apologize if i had bad enlish on an specific post, so talking to some Spanish speaking bronies is quite a relief, that's why i'm kinda obsessed with spreading it here in my country, but i think i should dtop doing that. PD: Sorry if I have bad english
irobern2857 95 August 9, 2012 Share August 9, 2012 me and the other bronies that i know arnt that bad. ya we suggest people give the show a chance be we don't force them. what we mainly do is use phrases and inside jokes that don't make sense to the people that haven't seen the show but that's it http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/usaf-r1018
Arcanel 3,041 August 9, 2012 Share August 9, 2012 Being from Argentina, I can totally say that it isn't something I can see for myself, except for the internet, and even then only on English speaking people. But there are a lot of reasons. One of them, is the fact that we, as humans, actually enjoy seeing the faces of people totally hating the show, and afterwords, they MAY be left in absolute shock with how wrong they were. And there are multiple reactions. They may still hate it, they may not like it but don't hate it, they may like it, they may love it. And when the last three happens, it's always enjoyable, no matter who you are, especially on this kind of show. Then there's the people who DO have an unhealthy obssession as every fandom possesses. After all, when have we not seem people do the unthinkable to just represent a show (there has been people who has done on this community the GOOD unthinkable, like music, fics, animations and ALL of those stuff, and there's the people who base themselves 24/7 on it, without no rest and just talk about it the WHOLE day. I love the show, fandom and ponies, but most just don't do it, because we have normal lives. And another reason...well. To simplify it, to show other people wrong, to get opinions, to get a good feeling if people have good opinions, and most of the stuff people to feel good on this type of cases. The important thing is, that not everybody does it, and that we are still in control. That's when the whole thing would fall apart, and so long as the show keeps us in check, we keep ourselves in check, the very crew of teh show keep us in check, we as community and for the progress of it, should be just fine. Also, sorry for the super long post XC. Acoustic Cloud 2,202 August 11, 2012 Share August 11, 2012 I'm not obsessed in spreading it in the slightest... i'm glad other people do, but not everyone spreads the word. Lillia 69 August 11, 2012 Share August 11, 2012 Why? WHY? Because we must subvert the false and lying Gods of the internet and bring the truth of Love and Friendship to all. This is all according to the will of Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, and their directive has been given to us via their chosen saints: Teddy Roosevelt and Batman, respectively. And you don't want to piss off Teddy Roosevelt OR Batman. In reality: what has society to lose by embracing the values of ponies? The Most Misunderstood Mare... RoccoThePegasus 5 August 11, 2012 Share August 11, 2012 Spreading a fandom, like pokemon and Tf2 is good, but some people don't want others to know, some do. I'd rather keep it a secret, if you come out, you'll het both positive and negative reactions. TessHM 15 October 6, 2012 Share October 6, 2012 Because we're a fandom, simple as that. Honestly, it's pretty foolish to think that bronies are in any way different from other fandoms, apart from subject matter.
TailsIsNotAlone 3,695 October 8, 2012 Share October 8, 2012 (edited) "Spreading MLP" is not important to me. I care about the show itself and the good feelings and inspiration it gives me. When you talk about wanting to convert everyone you meet and spreading bronyism all over the world, you're getting too close to ideology or a collective ego, and too far from what My Little Pony is trying to show us: friendship is magic. Besides, if everyone gets into the show, it won't feel special anymore. I don't believe the community is meant to be a cartoon pony crusade, or an island unto itself. It's meant to be a place where we all get along happily and talk about the show, and not get too worked up about people who don't get it. I'm just happy that I discovered it. Mizune 37 October 8, 2012 Share October 8, 2012 Because they aren't so accepted. If you spread a concept like wildfire, less people give you flak about it. Of course, it doesn't really work well and it pisses tons of people off.
OkBuddy 586 October 8, 2012 Share October 8, 2012 It's because we are a fandom and we want more people to join. Picture it like an evil empire who wants to take over a country or a planet. I'm a Y2K Survivor™
FedoraMemes 582 October 8, 2012 Share October 8, 2012 I think it's mainly because some people want to be able to share the joys that they have experienced in watching the show, in hope that people can join in with the fun that they have had. I don't really agree with the thread title, because not all bronies are like that, and a lot of them don't like talking about MLP at all, some of them are actually embarrassed that they watch it. Black Cloud 73 October 8, 2012 Share October 8, 2012 I think that the bronies who try to convert people, and threatening people who don't like the shows are the younger bronies. I think that bronies ages 13 and under are the ones that do all this converting and threatening Since there young they are not mature and dont act in ways that we find good or norm. Yes there may be some young bronies who do not act this way but its still about maturity. Sooo.. ya the annoying bronies are the young ones. Osaka Bomb 39 October 8, 2012 Share October 8, 2012 Yeah, this is something I've been thinking about recently as well. I can see why people would get annoyed by this, but I don't know...personally, it's just how I react. If I discover a show/movie/book/anime/manga/band I really like, I want to spread it around. I'm okay with people not liking said thing, but I like to give it a shot. If they aren't interested, I say no more. I don't like complaining about people for not liking the show. That seems just as bad as people complaining about us liking the show. I think both are sort of silly to do. Though, I really don't like people getting butthurt for people liking the show. If you don't like MLP, that's cool, but I wouldn't get worked up over people liking it. ...Though, honestly, there are some people in the fandom who don't do a good job of painting the fandom in a positive light. Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,368 October 8, 2012 Share October 8, 2012 I don't really spread it, I just like letting people know that I really like it. Perhaps that is what it comes down to, people like to let other people know of things that they like. Personally, if someone takes it so far to where it is almost like a cult, I say go for it. There are countless cults in this world already, quite a few of which have millions of followers who openly express what they are into. Not too many people going crazy over them.... So yeah, I don't 'spread' MLP, just spread the joy of it.
