These are much better shaded than your old ones and even the proportions feel better. however I might point out about the whole using a mask thing. The pen tool is designed for a mouse. I made this http://mlpforums.com/topic/31846-vector-art-fanish-oc-thing/ with just a mouse and the pen tool. no shading in there yet but It allows you to have absolute control over your lines without a fancy tool like a tablet.
