MLP or Fan Created MLP?

Mostly the show. The show inspires all. Many things have been done with it, some enjoyable and some not so much, but it all goes back to those adorable ponies.

 

There are some extremely talented artists out there who have replicated the cute art style and made the ponies look like the ponies, but added a richer and slightly more epic feel to it; this is definitely my favorite style of MLP fanart.

 

 

As for the fanfiction, like with any other fandom it's a very mixed bag with some things I like and some I dislike. I'm okay with clopfics, particularly if they have a plot, a sense of humor and retain some vestige of the show's atmosphere. It's hard to do when you take the show so far beyond its intended subject matter. "Pinkie Pie Makes Love to a Cake" is a good mix of kinky and totally ridiculous, plus it's something I could actually see her doing. *Ahem.* I said nothing.

 

But overall, the show is why I'm here and why I search out fan works to begin with.

I like both a lot, but mainly the show. What can I say? Even though I haven't watched an episode in a good, good while (AND not because I watched them on endless repetition ), I will still love it more than anything else. Even John Joseco, Jananimations, Mrponiator, MictheMicrophone, Whitedove and others, this are some of the most famous of fan related stuff and that are great, I'll still love the original more. The fact we such an ENDLESS amount of great fan stuff makes it even better. And I can agree with FimFiction, but I HAVE been reading fanfics for more than 3 years, only started reading FiMfics this year .

 

 

But overall, the show is why I'm here and why I search out fan works to begin with.

My dear TailsAlone, you SHOULD read Beating the Heat. Trust me. I don't read clopfics or that sort of stuff, but I can easily accept innuendo that makes me laugh my flank off. You'll be falling from your chair laughing. Repeatedly. In fact, I can say this much for sure. That fic, has more comedy and innuendo, than Two and A Half Men. And if you've seen the show...well, yeah. It's THAT much. It's absolute genius.

 

Also, hugging you isn't a punishment. Tails is so cute!

Shipping Goggles? ...Hmmm...I believe I HAVE heard about that one...not even sure. Also, to me both the show ands fic make me laugh my ass off, however, since it's a different style of innuendo and stuff, you might like. To however doesn't mind getting their minds corrupted (trust me, it does, and while I'm mostly innocent, I did get most of the stuff ), I recommend to anyone I trust that won't flip out . But, eh, I'll take the deal. I haven't read anything in MONTHS...even though I have 100 stories on my read later list...my reading mood right now sucks

Well, the fan content is (I hope) inspired by the show, so most would probably say that actually the show is better because of the way that it inspired all the work.

 

However, there are the times where you see amazing things created by the community. In my time, I have seen some amazing pieces of artwork, as well as musical pieces that exceed in quality over the low standard (I think it would've made more sense if I said high, but oh well, it's true) of mainstream music today.

 

So really, I'm kind of in the middle. The show is brilliant, and inspired the fan art, but when you look collectively at what the community have produced, you can see that actually, some of the fan art, music and fics are much better than the show itself.

Personally I do like both but I tend to like the fandom more than the canon simply because as Chaotic pointed out the writers can only stretch out the show out so far while the fandom can basically do whatever the heck they want with it....Including ship/clop stuff wich im not a fan of....epecially "Beating the Heat".

Regretibly I have been more interested in the fan material. I think the world and concept got my attention more than the show. I'm likely going to start rewatching this month though to get back into the show itself.

I find the Fan made content to be very...corrupt, for the most part. if you read rainbow factory, cupcakes, or played dreamy rainbow or luna game, then you know what Im talking about. if not, then this should explain everything in a nutshell:

I think I'm fan of both parts equally. I love the show and I love the fandom's content just as much. I especially like the music that the fandom makes and the good fanfics (I hate it when people says there isn't good brony fanfics!)

 

Still though, without the show I would have neither of those two. Thanks Lauren and thanks brony community

Beating the heat is good but fair warning it's FREAKING WEIRD! Maybe weirder than the fic where dash falls in love with a watermelon and that was pretty hard to beat in and of itself. You'll probably enjoy it but just be forewarned

I read the one where Dash falls in love with a kitchen sink. That sink became 20% cooler and I loved the fic. I'm ready for anything!

I dunno, while I do love some fanworks(with Friendship is Witchcraft and Fallout: Equestria being my personal favorites), in the end I prefer the show itself, for it is the very core of the fandom and none of that work would exist without it. Plus, it's just really fun to watch!

I must say I prefer the show itself. IMHO, all fanfics, fan art and other fan-made things are very nice addition, but still, only an addition.
