Too role play shy?..

Here'sUrAmmoMan!

Recommended Posts

Okay, I was messing around on the forums a few days ago and I went into the role play section. I had everything set up and was ready to do as the role play said... But then all of a sudden I didn't go in. I WAS SHY. I don't know why, its as if I did not want to disturb their RP... In real life, I'm lively, unafraid, and characteristic. Is anyone else having the same problem, and and advise?

I just don't do it at all because many RP's seem to have too many dang rules to follow. I hate when I have to control my character in a certain way pertaining to the rules of the RP. I like to follow my own route.

When I first started RP'ing on a different site, the expectations for every post were usually one of two things:

1) Three paragraphs minimum, OR

2) 500 words minimum.

So I got used to flourishing my posts with lots of detail, etc. And now I go to MLP roleplay forums, and each post might have a line or two of text, or just a bit of dialogue. I'm afraid I'll make a fool of myself or get in trouble for roleplaying like I always have.

Exactly. Too many rules. But again, even if I did, I will remain shy... It has nothing to do with me I'm not really shy. But I must agree, too many rules. I might just not do it. But I love to role play....

It happens - you're reading a great storyline and want to make your own contribution to the roleplay, but suddenly shy away - what if you're not good enough, or they don't accept you? It's the mentality I went into roleplaying with, and in the end, I just had to face myfears and submit my application. Most people on this site are quite friendly, and will be eager to work with you to help you imrpove even if you somehow believe your roleplaying skills are not up to par with everyone else's, or are unsure about how in-depth your character actually is. It does seem scary at first, but you'll get used to it eventually, and learn to like roleplay. :)

We actually encourage this type of roleplaying - it's exactly what we look for. Longer, more thought-out posts. If you're still uncertain, be sure to check out the newly made Advanced RP section! ^^

And that's what I get for failing to actually LOOK at this forum's RP section before making an assumption. You know what they say about people who assume... :P Anyway, I might give it a shot sometime.

But I love to role play....

And you, sir, should join me as well! Give it a shot. What's the worst that could happen? :)

Your right... I should man up and role play. It was that problem also... If they don't accept me. All I'm wondering is "WTF 5 PARAGRAPHS?" xD I get worried if they talk before me though D:

I'd enjoy it. I've only been in one so far, but it was neat! I'm just too busy lately to even bother to join them. I'd gladly go join one but I've just been super busy. Dimitri isn't shy at all, I'm rather open about playing my character. He's a depressed alcoholic with a horrible past, I play him great in my opinion.

@@jeff the killer,

The RP section is the reason I'm still here on the site. If it wasnt for that then I would have left on like the fourth day I was here. The RP section can be a GREAT place, but I for one can't stand it when people make their character like god, or a mary sue. Luckily those are the sites rules about Rping you cant do either of those!! *yay* If I ever start another RP I would love to have someone who thinks out their posts and makes it length rather than just a few lines, to cut the character limit. You seem like you would make a good RPer to me!

yeah i know what you mean, you see an RP that looks great and you would like to join but its to far a head, and the GM won't likely let you join so you have to wait for a similar RP.

the only other problem i have is when i go to bed and find out the 75 posts have been made in the RP meaning my character is so far out of story I can't continue.

I walked onto a closed OOC topic and told them that their sequal was a load of bull. I always feel more confident from behind a screen

I love to roleplay and have done so on other forums but here... I don't know. There doesn't seem to be any I can actively join, or maybe I'm just seeing things where they aren't. I once had a bad experience on an RP forum, where the RPers were horrible and cliquey even tho they pretended that they wanted new people to join; when I did, and joined an RP, they let me do so but just ignored my character completely and RPed around me. :( Eventually, I left. Another forum was fine at first but then the admin got a power complex and started coming up with loads of ridiculous rules; basically, unless you allowed every noob to join your RP, typed out a five paragraph disclaimer and basically licked her boots, it got deleted. Which was annoying if you'd just spent ages typing out an RP premis. -.-

Anyway, I'm sure it's not like that here, just that I'm a bit shy about joining in cuz it just seems a bit different to how I RP normally. I don't want to seem as tho I'm a one line pony or anything, just that the other way can be just as bad; ie, if people post a massive paragraph of purple prose and/or filler. I prefer to take the middle ground. And I'd love to join an RP here, just am scared of not being accepted or of doing something wrong.

I have the exact same problem, I chicken out of roleplaying before I even consider applying for one, even if I really want to.

One thing I really don't understand is how you can make larger posts when interacting with someone else's character. I mean, if you're having a conversation or if the gm is in control of what's happening, how to you make a large enough post just to say a line of dialogue or do an action? You can't exactly hijack another character or the situation in order to get enough content for your post...how does that work?

^ This, exactly. In a case of dialogue, you can put in a bit of description as well, like this:

"I don't really know what you mean," Pripyat Pony replied, with a frown of concentration. "Could you explain to me?"

The batwinged pegasus was confused by this parallell world that she'd somehow found herself in. True, it was like the Equestria where she'd grown up, but the ponies here hadn't discovered nuclear power. This made it all to the good, but it did make the place appear different in many ways.

However, with a dialogue, I don't see how you can post a massive paragraph without going totally offtopic. What I posted seems fine to me, but others might say, "I demand a massive paragraph! Post more!". huh.png
