Lando 80 November 25, 2012 Share November 25, 2012 (edited) I was just listening to a Ricky Gervais podcast and this subject came up, If you were able to go inside of a flotation tank and live a perfect virtual life, would you go in? Keep in mind that you do not know that you are in this tank and the people outside of the tank kept you alive until you passed away from natural causes. You would never be subject to pain, death or any sort of trauma and everything would go the way you want it to go, and you would be the person you have always dreamed of being. I would like to say that I wouldn't do it and that I would want to build a perfect life on my own, but this is an extremely tempting offer. Edited November 25, 2012 by Lando Check me out! Betez 1,734 November 25, 2012 Share November 25, 2012 I think I've seen that one. I personally want to say that I wouldn't go in, but honestly, if the situation was presented to me, I might consider going in. It does sound nice. Nothing bad happens. Everyone else would live their lives outside of mine. I would live my perfect life. It really does sound tempting, but I want to live a real life the way it was intended to live, so I'd have to say no to the tank. Dusty Soul 2,611 November 25, 2012 Share November 25, 2012 I would not do that, as the traumas and the pains we feel make us stronger. If one goes through life without emotion, nor pain it would be rather dull. There are some things that need to happen, and it may seem bad at the time, but it always gets better. 2 Soundcloud-------------------Facebook---------------------------Youtube
Sunny Fox 5,950 November 25, 2012 Share November 25, 2012 (edited) Am I the only one who would say yes? Imagine, a whole world that shapes itself to whatever you want it to be. You could actually really believe you are in Equestria and living a life as a pony. Or if that doesn't take your fancy, something else. A medieval setting, perhaps, with swords and sorcery and all those good things that just don't exist in real life. It's tempting. Lightning Fluttershy 1,844 November 25, 2012 Share November 25, 2012 Although that offer would perhaps be the most tempting of my life, I would say no. I agree with Dusty Soul. What is life without the pain that comes with it? To be honest I love life for two reasons, both equal. For the never ending happiness it brings me, and for the fulfilling pain that comes with it. It's hard to explain really...

But like Dusty Soul said, you need to experience pain in life, otherwise you stay the same forever. It is hard to put into words, but there really is no such thing as a perfect life. And even if there was, you would get sick of it eventually. I at least would want to know what else was out there. Envy 6,168 November 25, 2012 Share November 25, 2012 (edited) The perfect life for me involves helping others and changing the world, so that could never be perfect for me if it was just an emulation. Nothing would change. I'd just die an even more meaningless life. As long as I've got here, I want to at least try... Edited November 25, 2012 by Envy Everything needs more woodwind! Coco Pommel 669 November 25, 2012 Share November 25, 2012 I'd rather not have a perfect life, honestly. I just think a perfect life with nothing wrong as boring. :/ If anything, dying with the feeling that I really made something out of my life is all I could ever ask for. Kelvocity 211 November 25, 2012 Share November 25, 2012 While the idea is really tempting... ...I'm not gonna say that the idea of living a perfect life with no flaws is the wrong way to do life. I'm gonna say that the idea of being completely come off from reality and thinking I was living a real life when I wasn't kind of creeps me out. And it can also be a bit philosophical: you could be in come kind of simulator right now and not even know it. I'd expand on that thought, but I'm really too tired and should go to bed. Wait for it...
Commander Urdnot 2,680 November 25, 2012 Share November 25, 2012 Yeah, I would. Urdnot Pinkie Pie gets to hang out with Pinkeh and her friends in Equestria for 40 years. What's there not to love about that?
Sequinox 48 November 25, 2012 Share November 25, 2012 I would never be able to go in. I have too much responsibility to my family and friends. I could never just leave them on their own like that to live a "perfect life". It's just like death, in a way. I'm not afraid of dying, but rather I'm afraid of leaving my husband and children behind and knowing that they have to stay on this earth longer and cope with doing everything on their own. // DEVIANTART // TUMBLR
The Girl with the Books 57 November 25, 2012 Share November 25, 2012 Life is a generally dull thing, "nature's way of keeping meet fresh." The only reason anyone's life matters or has flavor is through achieving. To achieve, one must feel pain and now what defeat is otherwise, what is victory other than just the norm of reality? Think of it this way, zero-gravity situations are only unique, interesting, and/or important to you if you've been subject to gravity your whole life. The instant you are introduced to a zero-gravity situation again, it becomes less exciting, less of an adventure. Now, as to if I myself would accept such an offer, I will leave that up to your minds to quess. I feast on the words of great authors, Drink the emotions and thoughts of the characters,And sleep only once I am through with all of the stories. It's not the ideas that make books relevant,It's the READERS. Starshine 16,333 November 26, 2012 Share November 26, 2012 If you were able to go inside of a flotation tank and live a perfect virtual life, would you go in? What if we are already in the tank? Honestly, if someone offered things like that IRL, I don't know whether I would take the offer or not. My life has been a literal hell quite so far, me trying to convince myself things will get better no longer works. I don't know, maybe I will flip a coin? Zygen 6,066 November 26, 2012 Share November 26, 2012 Well to be honest I think that even though I really hate having to deal with all the pains and stressed of life all the time, I proably wouldn't want to go to life this perfect life tank. I mean I think my life might get really boring really fast. Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! khaine21x3 789 November 26, 2012 Share November 26, 2012 I would say no right now but I might change my mind if the technology really exist because it's just so tempting to be able to live in a utopia.
Celtore 2,770 November 26, 2012 Share November 26, 2012 (edited) While I would choose to enter into a permanent lucid dream (under my control of course), I wouldn't enter this "perfect life" tank. I don't think that a perfect life is even possible considering the chance of boredom and routine. Actually... I remember an old spongebob episode of something like this where Squidward goes to live a perfect life in tentacle acres and it plays out this very scenario. He eventually get's bored and goes back to his regular life. The difference between this and that is that there is no chance to get back out of this perfect world once you made your decision. Everyone already thinks you're dead. Edited November 26, 2012 by Celtore
Sks_Burns 730 November 26, 2012 Share November 26, 2012 theres no perfect life, only your idea of a "ideal life". you must work for it in order to make it happen, something no simulation can give you. Sugarcube 213 November 26, 2012 Share November 26, 2012 No way would it be perfect especially for me. What is the point in living a life it is nothing more than a giant dream? I guess if you never knew the difference then eh fine but for me it is no good I have suffered, and because I have suffered I have a deeper appreciation and understanding of happiness and I better appreciate the things in my life I have worked hard for. Knowing I can escape and create and do my best to shape my future and life into what I want is the perfect life to me. It is full of possibility and real people I can touch and talk and share with. Life has it's ups and downs, I don't love living with our roommate sometimes, Sometimes work makes me want to scream and cry and pull my hair out, school gets exhausting, and I have bad memories always to hold, but for every bad thing there is a good thing. I may not love living with a roommate but he is a good guy and has helped out me and boyfriend before, I don't love school but I am getting a chance to better myself and expand my world view, my job is frustrating and makes me want to cry but I have really gotten to know some of my customers and they make me feel valued and I love getting to work with their dogs. No virtual reality tank could truly give me the same feelings those things give I may have been born yesterday sir, but I stayed up all night - El-P
