The Saturn V still is the Engineer's ultimate wet-dream. 9 years of dedicated research and development to achieve the impossible, and nearly half a century later, still holds numerous records, including Biggest, Strongest and most Powerful rocket that ever flew. 18 times. Applejack would be proud.

 

It still is a symbol of triumph in the eye of the common man to meet one of the Apollo Astronauts. But among today's Astronauts, the Apollo Astronauts are still the only ones who strapped themselves to 5000 tonnes of high-explosive (built by the lowest bidder) that could reach a maximum injection speed of 11km/s (24600mph or 39600kph) and sustain greater than 5 G-forces for hours at a time. Rainbow Dash would be proud.

 

More research and development poured into the advanced sciences of rocketry and astrophysics in the 1960s than any other period of history, kicking the development of the computer, jumpstarting the internet, advanced avionics, Telecommunications, astro-geology, physics, textiles, metal alloys, chemistry, biomechanics and the seatbelt. Twilight Sparkle would be proud.

 

And for a friggen tube of titanium designed only to be lightweight, strong (and able to keep the fuel cold) never looked so smashing. See the black stripes? Those aren't a fashion statement, they're for the tracking systems of High-Altitude cameras. There is not one inch of the rocket that had the purpose of being fashionable or anything but practical. Despite that, Saturn V still one of the best looking American rocket designs of the pre-Ares family. Rarity would be proud.

 

It should've blown up. 6 missions came literally within milliseconds of horrendous disastrous flammable painful agonizing failure-- but by mere fluke, slight of hand, keeping cool in the weirdest of situations and laughing at the face of death himself, Apollo 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13 all came through with flying colors. Pinkie Pie would be proud.

 

Not sure what Fluttershy would be proud of. They're loud, dangerous, violent, breathe fire, very large, far too complicated to be fixed with a handkerchief and a smile, temperamental to the point of explosive and liable to fall over. Maybe the fact that they're graceful in how they move (ignoring the whole "moving at mach 14" thing).

for some reason, disorganised tools and cluttered workshops are beautiful to me. i see photos like this and im immedately moved in some way. maybe chaos creates genuis to some degree, as the last pic is the workshop of the legendary John Browning. my own work areas often look like this, and it doesnt bother me. i typically only clean when im about to start something new. anyway, on to the pics.

My kitty got put down today. He was 17 years old and sick and not doing so well. I'm really sad because he was like a brother to me. I will miss him a lot! as a gearhead, i find something incredibly beautiful about perfectly welded metal. aluminum welds are my favorite, since they look like a row of brand new dimes when they're done right. the firescale from the heat of the welder adds even more sex appeal to the builders work.
