gaming Spyro the Dragon

I actually have a fanfiction crossover now that I think of it...

http://www.fimfiction.net/story/63883/my-little-spyro-friendship-is-flammable

I'm so glad I found this topic, I LOVE Spyro! wub.png I own 1 - 5, but don't really like 4 & 5 because they're just not like the 'old' Spyro.

Spyro 1 was the first game I got when I was little, I played it every day. First, I was unable to beat the game because for some reason my game always froze when I entered Stone Hill. Man, that really pissed me off. Also, it took me quite a long time to finish the Doctor Shemp level because I was afraid of that guy.

So many good memories... I could talk about Spyro all day. The music, the gameplay, it's just awesome!

Actually, I want to play it right now after reading this topic.

The First one was my first game as a little tiddly wink (Wut?), But yes, I feared so many things in that game, most of all the fast arsenal metal spiders in high caves, and the bushed in beast makers that would eat you. However, I loved that game. I always found myself missing the artisans when I got further in to Beast makers and Dream weavers, so often enough i'd start another save just to play in the first levels again.

I'm pretty sure in the first game also, the developers got a little more crazy with the level design, because artisans and peace keepers are neat, but more similar around. Then Magic crafter has new mechanics with the druids and their land movement. Then Beast makers and Dream Weavers they just go nuts with the supercharges and other things.

I hope Spyro finds redemption some day (nothing against Skylanders, but it seemed like they only used spyro to promote the game). I would really love to see TLoS 4, but I know that is not going to happen, and insomniac is done with spyro. How awesome would it be if Naughty Dog bought both spyro and crash. That would be awesome. But I know that's not going to happen either. Dammit, activision please do something with crash, dont let him die. And also, please give spyro more gametime! PLEASE!!!!

Methinks Activision may be better off letting Spyro and crash sit on the shelf a while, that way new ideas and flourish around, and someone with dedication will be the one to say "Let's make something new." I mean, It would be awesome if Spyro had a sequel  with a lot of the mechanics from year of the dragon, but cleaned up, and many more creative level designs. What the first three had was that they were all very different in theme, but played partially the same, without fear of trying many new things.

I was growing up with Mario, Sonic and a little bit of Crash Bandicoot while my sister, who grew up with Spyro, managed to experience the original 3. I never got to give it a proper try until round about the time Enter the Dragonfly came out, which I actually really enjoyed, but I was young then. But then again, I played it again fairly recently, and I still enjoyed it, regardless of how badly it did. I actually managed to give Spyro 3 a try before that, though. I loved it, especially the skateboarding stages.

However, I do have faint memories of giving one of the original 3 games a try when I was really young, can't remember which, but all I did was play a level that looked like a Roman colosseum, and quickly charged toward the exit on the other side, desperately trying to avoid the bulls because I was easily frightened back then. Over and over and over again.

Other games I played are Season of Flame on the Game Boy Advance, and A Hero's Tail, which I also really enjoyed despite how mediocre people say it was. Never gave the Legend of Spyro games a try. I wasn't at all fond of the seemingly darker tone.

What wonder what's gonna happen to Spyro now. Activision only used him to promote Skylanders, and they don't seem to be using him at all anymore from what I've seen.

My sister also recently downloaded the original 3 games on our PS3 for both of us to play, but it's never occurring to me to do so.

I've played about five spyro games my whole life:

  • The New beginning
  • Eternal Night (on both ps2 and GBA)
  • Dawn of the Dragon

Out of these three (or four if you count PS2 and GBA as seperate games), I can say that Dawn of the Dragon was my all time favorite.  I've always enjoyed playing it with my brother, we're an unbeatable team when it comes to this sort of thing.

Spyro is first and all-time favorite video game character, still my Game Icon. And played all Spyro games. Year of the Dragon and Legend of Spyro are my favorite Spyro Series.

Ah, Spyro. It was the fandom I was in before I joined MLP. The classics were great, and Spyro 1 was one of my first video games ever. The Legend series had some really interesting ideas and worked well for a reboot of the entire series. Skylanders kind of killed it though. The fandom started to die after it came out.

I grew up on Mario, Zelda, and Sonic, so the first Spyro games I played were Spyro Enter The Dragonfly and Hero's Tail, I finally bought the very first Spyro game for the PS1, and it's my favorite!!!! I love playing it and always dance to the music, I also love Legend of Spyro New Beginning, Eternal Night, and Dawn of The Dragon. I don't have interest in playing Skylanders though, it looks dumb  :P

I love this series, it's my childhood along with Crash Bandicoot and it's one of my favorite series of all time. I have Spyro: Year of the Dragon and i have Spyro: A Hero's Tail. I still need to get all the other games in the series. I'm going to buy Spyro 1-3 from the Playstation store soon, i would love it if they would fully remaster Spyro 1-3 for the PS4 and make a new game. It's a shame that he's been ruined and stuck in Skylanders :(

Spyro the Dragon was really the first true fandom I was part of, and the first true internet community that I grew into. The Spyro series still ranks as my favorite game(s) of all time (yeah I count the whole series as one), and I have so many memories invested.

Of course I started with the classics and loved them to death (Enter the Dragonfly excluded) and the Legends series was pure awesome; period. Hell, I even love the first Skylanders as it reminds me a good deal of the Insomniac trilogy. <3

I just love that purple dragon.

Spyro practically made up my young gamer childhood :D I am extremely nostalgic about anything from my childhood so I bought spyro 1 recently because I hadn't played it in years and my that game has aged well! Still as fantastic of an adventure as the first time I played it :)

i used to play the spyro games on gameboy

Some of those were actually very good. For the GBA, the trilogy made by Digital Eclipse (Season of Ice, Season of Flame, Attack of the Rhynocs) were surprisingly good; especially Season of Flame which I give HIGH recommendations to anyone.

Then there was Spyro Orange/Crash Purple which, while fine for the most part, was underwhelming.

And while it is a DS game, Spyro: Shadow Legacy is somewhat disappointing, but it's not THAT bad, IMO.

As for the Legend of Spyro GBA games I've never played those.

I know literally nobody else besides myself that's played any Spyro games, genuinely shocked to see he has his own thread here!

I've played the PS1 trilogy, enter the dragonfly for the PS2, and one of the gameboy games i think? i don't remember which one though. (I really want to play the Wii trilogy too, doesn't look as bad as everyone says, but i guess i'll find out one day.)

In fact, the only 2 Spyro games i remember playing from my childhood are Spyro 2 - Gateway to Glimmer and Spyro 3 - Year of the dragon.

I recently got the original 3 and enter the dragonfly again, and so far, im having tons of fun re-playing these classics

Spyro the Dragon is by far the best dragon, period. Spyro the Dragon (PS1) is a game I could <still> play for hours.  One of my favorite series in the PlayStation universe, easily.  :yay:
