You think we're losing our way?

Lately, I've been seeing so much hate coming from the brony community, namely the whole HUB Facebook fiasco where they had a topic about their Batman series, and someone replied with: "Not pony, don't care," and the whole Ponyarchive ordeal. It got me thinking, are we starting to lose sight of our love and tolerance motto?

My guess is that some people think of ponies like it's fashion. If something else is not pony related then it's not good enough.

I personally am much against that way of thinking because ponies is more than just a trend. The My Little Pony series is an amazing show with good voice acting, nice animation and most of all, well written stories. Every episode teaches some kind of lesson to the viewer as well as one of the mane six.

If the haters of the brony community haven't realised what this show is actually about then I say let them be and they'll leave on their own at some point.

Maybe the whole love and tolerance thing is outdated.

Just an idea though.

Sorry but, what the hay?

How can concepts such as Love and Tolerance ever be "outdated".

To be honest, you seem like the type of brony is explain above. The ones who think of the show as a trend, correct me if I'm wrong.

So to the title.

No, WE are not losing our way.

The haters are.

Unfortunately there will always be these two groups of fans for this show.

But that doesn't mean we can't change a few of them to us "good people" bronies.

As with all communities, there will always be those who tend to act in a discourteous, ignorant, and unmannerly fashion to anyone and everyone. Although such members of the fandom are without doubt the minority, such tactless behaviour tends to stick out like a sore thumb amongst a community that is recognised for its broad-mindedness. The events of Ponyachive's downfall were in my opinion, an anomaly that unfortunately tainted the repute of the Brony fandom to a degree, seeing as the website's widespread popularity led it to become somewhat emblematic of the community as a whole (similar in nature to that of Equestria Daily, albeit to quite a lesser degree).

In saying this, it should be remembered that the true representatives of the community - communities such as us, will always be the most accurate portrayal of the values that Bronies hold. Out in the far reaches of the internet, our principles can, and are, easily misconstrued thanks to the actions of a small minority.

I think that only the minority of bronies are forgetting all about love and tolerance and what it means to be a true brony. Though I'm not surprised, because there were, are and always be such people that take things to the extreme.

I never really understood the motives of bronies that spam in 4chan's random section to be honest.

You know... I've actually been hoping for a brony battle... There are a whole lot of flank-holes out there, masquerading as somepony who loves love&tolerance. Exposure is the only way to get rid of them.

Sure this will result on more haters for the pony-show; but that's what this whole community is about! We dare to like what we want, while fighting the trolls. If there was less to fight, we'd start fighting among ourselves (as you can plainly see in the recent events.)

I am a pony-fan. I wouldn't go so far as to say "brony" (mainly because pony-fan sounds catchier... :P) but I still feel the need for trolls in this community. What doesn't kill us, will make us stronger; and really, trolls can't kill us. They end up killing themselves. The pony community will only get stronger from outside battles; and we can't have as many outside battles without an opposing side.

Feel free to think I'm crazy, and accuse me of hitting too many Nesquick shots.

i've seen examples of both good people (this community) and bad people (they mostly tend to stick to places such as ponibooru and whatnot). they might both be bronies, in that sense that they love the show, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they fit into the love and tolerance archetype.

After last night, I read this in your awesome accent.

a fanbase can only be "perfect" for so long. Eventually the bad apples will end up to the top of the heap the more the fanbase grows. Interesting how there's pony elitism/snobbery emerging as described in that Hub Batman thing or whatever it was.

Sadly we are all human, therefore inherantly flawed.

We can only hope that some of us may be able to resist our flaws and persevere.

Trolls pretending to be bronies, then turning around and doing this to make the rest of us look bad. That's probably what this is.

We aren't losing our way, there's just so many of us now that there are bound to be some that are, lets say, less than representative of what the fandom stands for. The bad apples always get the most attention unfortunately, it works that way with everything.

I don't think WE are losing our way.

Some Bronies (if you want to call them that) are becoming filled with Hatred! :(

These are likely people who only enjoyed the show and fandom on a fad basis or were just trolls to begin with. I see some Bronies just spam pony stuff for the sake of spamming which fills non-Bronies with even more hatred then before! This causes arguments between the Extremist Brony and the Hater... Arguing is NOT Love and Tolerance! Defend the show? Yes, but don't shove it down their throat... you aren't helping anypony doing that!

What people need to see that Bronies and Haters will forever be in a stalemate. We share a Protagonist/Antagonist relationship where without one another our purpose is non-existent. The goal of Love and Tolerance is NOT to spam the haters to death! Intolerance of Intolerance is well... INTOLERANT! The goal is to simply do this:

Hater: "MLP ez 4 teh faggzors!" (in their native tong of course)

Brony:"I see you aren't a fan of MLP. I find your intolerance saddening, but if that's how you REALLY feel then I suppose I'll just have to accept it. I won't force you to like it, but I urge you to have an open mind. Whatever you say will not change me and vice versa therefore there is no real reason to keep fighting instead of accepting eachother's differences and moving on."

[Then the Brony says somethings that are probably VERY inappropriate for these forums]

The Brony then just ignores the Hater... forever.

You see if we just ignore them and focus more on other Bronies and friendship and magic and whatnot then we won't even really have Haters. Just think of them as that slightly annoying fly that's buzzing around!

Instead we have very aggressive, even overzealous fans that attack haters! THIS IS NOT LOVE AND TOLERANCE! This is being no better, if not, worse than the Haters in the first place! THIS IS NOT BEING A BRONY! This is being some kind of Nega-Brony, Brony Extremist, Parasprite, Trollestia, or how about a new term, a Windago! (those things that seem to feed off hatred and ruin the world around them in "Hearth's Warming Eve") Seems fitting I think.

So no, us here at the forums are NOT losing our way since we tend to behave like civilized human beings while other Bronies (or Windagos... it's not catching on is it?) seem to be fighting rather than tolerating...

...and I thought we were the last/best hope for humanity.. :(

I'm somehow not surprised that this is happening. Honestly it would be nice to think that everyone would follow the motto, but there are just so many variables and different people involved, so this was bound to happen. I think that if you are one of those people who do abide by love & tolerance, then it just shows how you're above the silly bickering and immature flame wars that occur over pretty much nothing.

Windagos Wendigos Windigos... I like it!

(How many spellings of that word is there?! Wikipedia says Windigos is correct for MLP so I'm going with that)

there's also the possibility that the bad apples are just bronies that were like us at one point but were trolled to the point of turning and have decided to let their frustration out in an unhealthy way.

I'm pretty sure that this community is actually one of the more tolerating in the brony community. I very seldom see hate come out of here for any reason, and everypony does there best not to offend anypony else.

Not sure I'd have to see the script.

I'd have to (hypocritically) go with Windigos since it spells Wind and Indigo correctly!
