I don't like season 3

Sounds fun actually :V

you're friends with Misty, rait? he linked me here xD

It's obvious this season is fanbased, have you seen the sypnosis of episode 10? but I'm not really bothered by it :3

It is fanbased. But, I am not as bothered as much by it. I feel like the "Cary on" meme has gotten out of control. If they make Sweetie Belle say, "Keep Calm and Continue to Insult Fabric". I will lose lit

I don't pay much attention to what the fans 'want' simply because I'm new to this whole crazy but wonderful fandom. Considering that, I enjoy this season as much as the other two. Probably less so simply because there are less episodes, but whatever. It's the quality that counts, all in all. I have to say I'm very happy with the quality that they're maintaining.

I was only a little 'meh' on a couple episodes - one of them being the Apple Family Reunion - but rewatching them just made me appreciate them a lot more and really enjoyed them. Especially considering the story behind those two falling stars. That alone ignited a fire in my heart.

It's fair enough if you don't like season three as much as the other two. It's your opinion. We all have opinions. I also understand why you have that opinion, but since I'm out of the loop here, I don't know what's 'fan based' or not.

Also, DJ Shift, I completely agree with you about the Derpy episode. I felt there could be a great opportunity that Derpy shows she's not as derpy as people think. She's frustrated over her own incapabilities but persists and pushes through. Well, I'm considering making my own series in short story form so I could use that idea myself. Just depends if I make it a good quality series of short stories or not. We'll see...

Personally, I love this season. While there may be some fan service, such as Applejack getting more screen time, they're incorporating it well.

Scoots and Dash: This, to me, wasn't a fan service, IMO. Here's why. Scoots looks up to Rainbow Dash like a goddess. Neither have any family that we know of. It makes perfect sense for the two of them to end up as "family."

Too Many Pinkie's: There was some fan service here with the references. When Pinkie was given fingers and her face changed to a previous generation. But it was also Pinkie being Pinkie. She loves having fun and being with her friends. While she may not always think things through when it comes to having fun, the idea of her going and making duplicates seemed like a thing Pinkie would do.

Applejack screen time: The fandom has no doubt been asking for more Applejack. While she isn't a high favorite of mine, I was highly anticipating her own episode and song. To me, this was to show us that they are still listening to us, while keeping the ideas their own. (Again, IMO)

Wonderbolt Academy: Do I really have to explain how this wasn't a fan service? Rainbow Dash going into the Academy made perfect sense, especially how she idolizes the team. The fact that the fandom was able to beat Hasbro to making an episode doesn't mean that it is full of fan service.

Flutter on: I don't know if this is or isn't fan service. I haven't and refuse to read the synopsis about it. From what I've heard, it sounds very fan fiction. But, like another posted above me somewhere, they don't have time to read through fanfics. As a company, they have much more important things to do than read a fan fic. Besides, Hasbro has other shows and marketing things they work on outside of MLP.

These are just my 2 bits. Okay, maybe it's more but still. Again these are all just IMO

If that's how you feel, that's fine by me, but, might I just add as a bit of friendly advice, if you want to reinforce your opinion, perhaps provide some concrete examples of how the show is pandering to the fanbase and how you believe this is negatively affecting the show.  :)

As for myself, I love Season 3 so far, but I'll leave it at that here, since I go into plenty of detail in each episode thread each week about what I love about each episode.

I actually like Season 3 a lot because it is really fan based. I like how they are paying attention to us, and what we want. They are really caring about our community a lot, and that's what I love. They are showing us they care, and love our community very much .:)

Make no mistake:  Scootalove was planned from the beginning.  RD and Scootaloo match up so well and the fans saw it a long time ago.  The result was a ton of fanmade art and stories long before the cartoon itself got around to addressing it.

Regarding AJ as a foal, a filly, a senior, and a stallion.  OK, they've pretty much run the gamut of fanart right there.  But I find those tolerable.  If they ever portray AJ as a human, I'm outta here...but it's probably safe to say they won't go that far.  :)

Maybe the extra fanservice was planned as part of a farewell tour long ago in case season 3 was the last season?

What confuses me is that, if they were to ignore what the fans want, the fans would get ticked off. Now, if they cater to what the fans want, they also get ticked off.

What are we!?

Bronies!

What do we want?!

WE HAVE NO CLUE!

When do we want it!?

NOW!

C'mon people. I highly doubt they're sitting there reading fan fiction. And it's not "ripping off" even if they are. Fan fiction is just that. Fan fiction. Those people writing it don't own the rights to the characters that they haven't created and the places they haven;t created. If you call that ripping off, then there is rarely anything that isn't ripped off anymore.

If it is fan service, then fine. I'd rather see things I want to see than see things I don't.

i feel that hasbro is just ripping ideas from bronys hard work they put into such as Fan-Fics and stuff like that

I don't see anything like this in the show, but some shows do that. Fans talk about what they want to see, the staff hears about it, and they put it into an episode. Even if the staff was getting ideas from fan speculation/requests, I think that the people who came up with those ideas would be happy that they included it, credited or not.

HU! BAM!

..?

I actually like that they've put some "fanbased" things in season three. Though I don't see it as you do where alot is fanbased.. I think that most things they put in an episode are things they come up with on their own, actually. If I don't remember wrong I think that one of the writers for example said that they aren't allowed to read fanfiction. Maybe that's just BS, I don't know but I can't see your problem here..

I like Season 3 fine. The only episode I would accuse of having too much fanservice is Magic Duel. Crystal Empire didn't quite measure up to the Discord and Chrysalis arcs, but that was a pretty big challenge. Too Many Pinkie Pies gets too much flak; I thought it was very funny and classic Pinkie. One Bad Apple and Apple Family Reunion were pretty good, Wonderbolts Academy was very good, and Sleepless in Ponyville was a classic. How much is there to dislike, really?

So far this one is looking like my least favorite season, but I wouldn't say I dislike it.

The creators are definitely paying attention to the bronies lately, I've noticed that too. I think Season 3 is really good, but it doesn't give much of the same feel it used to, which really stinks. More and more of the episodes are leaning toward us, not their target audience, but that's not really smart. Aiming for the target audience is the reason the majority of the older fans became bronies. I kinda miss Season 2...

Hey you! Hey! Do you have Flash? Wanna animate ponies?

I agree that season 3 is not as good as it could have been. I don't necessarily agree that it is too fan based, but it seems a bit rushed and the fact that there are only 13 episodes really disappoints me.

Wait is this true anyone? that there will only be 13 episodes!?!?!?? or is it one of those 13 for now then another 13 if those 13 goes well...or some kinda bs like that?

Season 3 is only 13 episodes(there's a hour long DVD movie confirmed by some expense reports, so that may be a factor), We don't know how long season 4 will be yet.

I'm of the opposite opinion on Season 3. So far, The Crystal Empire and Magic Duel are tied for my second favorite episode(first is the wedding), The Wonderbolt Academy was awesome(it was very 80s), and Sleepless in Ponyville was really enjoyable. The normal part of the season(as in starting with the first regular episode) had a weak start, but it picked up fast.

Oh, and Applejack's episode was awesome too.

I really do not get all of the doom and gloom lately. Season 3 has been great thus far. Who really cares if they have done fanservice? It is way better than them completely ignoring the fans and screwing the show up. They have not done that, so I am happy. Besides, this season has had some great ideas put into play. Sleepless in Ponyville was great. Oh, and One Bad Apple. That might be one of my top episodes. I love Babs and the song was epic for me.

Yeah, I am not seeing where the negativity is coming from.

Although I like Season 3 a lot and I disagree that there has been pandering and stuff in it, I respect your opinion because it IS somewhat complicated to see if there was pandering or not. AKA, if they have looked from bronies and put it there. However, please look this thread.

http://mlpforums.com/topic/42301-why-is-everyone-accusing-the-staff-of-pandering/

Not because I want to change your opinion or anything, but maybe see how the ones who disagree with you explain themselves might give you a different point of view.

As for the pandering that I'd have to object myself, I would only tell you two things.

1. Most of the episodes that we see now have been planned since the start of 2011, when the fandom barely even existed back then. And

2. If the writers have anything now that they know what kind of audience they also have, is freedom. They can more than they may have been allowed to. And I'd also not like to discredit the writers AT ALL.

So...yeah. Though if anything, pandering or not, this season was great in my honest opinion. And to be completely frank, not liking the season because of that seems...well...slightly silly.

I haven't seen the 'too fanbased" thing myself but even if it was I'd say that's a good thing. In most cases the fan version of many franchises tends to be WAY better than the original.

I'm a huge Sonic fan, right? I love the games, I love the comics, I love the cartoons.....but I also really really love the fan works like Sonic Shorts by TheWax70 on Newgrounds. Things made by the fans don't have to follow strict guidelines like keeping it TV-Y rated or anything like that. Things that pay attention to the fans can still do essentially the same thing just filtered so those of the appropriate age group can still watch it. They can still throw in the same memes and ideas from the fandom in there, even if the only one who will get it are hardcore bronies.

And so far I'm loving season 3 personally. Nothin' sayin' you have to like every season, or every part of a season.

As I understand, and I know a few bronies who can confirm, there will be only 13 episodes this season. Then again I'm not a reliable source.

I believe what you are thinking of is that they only announced 13 episodes, not that there will only BE 13 but that's all they planned out (and possibly made) before the season started. I believe that it has been confirmed by Hasbro (or The Hub) that there will be more than 13 episodes.

Okay, sorry if I am incorrect I just became a brony after then end of season 2 and as such can't really compare it to previous seasons, I heard they broke one of the 2 previous season into 2 segments of 13 episodes, is this true?
