Wingsuiting - AKA: The Closest Thing To Being A Pegasus In Real Life

Recommended Posts

One of the things that MLP:FiM - especially Rainbow Dash - has inspired me to do is live a more adventurous life, or at least take a few of the things on my bucket list and "move them up the queue," so to speak. For instance, I plan on taking skydiving lessons over the summer, and while I was thinking about that I remembered something else I saw a while back on the subject of diving - wingsuits.

*bucket list gets one item longer*

So if you ever want to get in touch with your inner-pegasus, grab a wingsuit. :)

Looks very dangerous... but very fun at the same time! I'm definitely going to try this one day. I might piss my pants  in fear the entire time, but so what, you're flying!

The only question is, where do you buy one?

I'm researching it now. There's a lot more regulations with wingsuiting than with skydiving, I don't think you can just buy one on the open market. Skydiving schools teach it though, so I think they might be able to source one. Obviously after they train you first (most need you to have at least 200 jumps first, though).

Two... hundred... jumps. Wow. That sounds like a little bit of overkill. I wonder why they would make you train that much. Really weird.

I've always been into extreme sports.  Heck, I worked on a TV show covering the stuff.  I told my wife I want to do this next and she said not until our kids are grown up and out of the house.  By then there will probably be jet-packs so I'll just have to live vicariously through these videos...

It's an ambiguous number. It's about skill, not necessarily the number itself, they just think 200 is about the time your proficient enough.I imagine that a dedicated person could get proficient pretty quick. A lot of divers do several dives each time they do it, and they probably do it pretty often. I've seen the number 18 months thrown out.

Okay, now I have something else to tell her I want to do.  But I'm sure I'll get a similar reaction...

Maybe If I build one it will be ready by then.  Then I can use it with my Iron Man suit I'm working on...
