you know it seems all the CMC are crippled in some way... Like their magic went to someplace else other then what pegasus/earth/unicorns do. Scootaloo can't fly, Sweetiebelle seems like she can't do magic, and Applebloom... Well, Applebloom isn't quite in touch with the earth like her sister and brother.

I'm pretty sure it's just because their a bit younger than they seem, and when you're young, you have trouble doing some things. I know Twilight was good when she was Sweetie Belles age, but Sweetie Belle doesn't spend 24/7 studying magic like Twilight did.

We've even seen Pumpkin Spice Cake use magic! Kind of odd we haven't seen Sweetie Belle use magic, except for unicorns they use magic to aid for their special talents. (Everyone stop bothering me for getting Pumpkin cake's name wrong) XD

It is a bit of a puzzler, but the most disturbing facet is, neither Twilight or even her own sister, Rarity has stepped in to at least try and find her magical potential. Then again, maybe younger unicorns who don't develop magically when thier born can't use magic till they find out thier unique talent. Or maybe I'm just over-analyzing things... >.>

Well because we never really see Sweetie Belle even practice her magic it's (unlike Twilight) she just can't use it properly.

 

Maybe if Rarity took some time to train her or something we'd be able to see Sweetie's potential in using magic.

Well she doesn't really need magic, nor does she probably know how to use it, Unicorns seem to only use their magical abilities according to their special talent, Rarity only knows all she needs to be successful on her talent, and I think until the unicorns are well-aware of their talent, they won't be able to use magic.

I think that makes sense.....Rarity (as far as i know) couldn't really use magic when she was a filly until she discovered her talent for finding gems.

Interesting hypothesis. I think it would be really neat if they had a shared special talent that only worked with the three of them together. This above and beyond the obvious natural abilities that each of them have (carpentry, singing/composing, and scooter).

 

But yes, she is well behind in her ability to levitate objects.

As for Sweetie Belle and her magic. I belive that she well use her magic, when she descovers what her speacial skill is. So I think her singing and magic may work together.

I don't know if shes magically crippled, i think its just because shes young. And I'm pretty sure in sisterhoove social she used it to at least hold up the picture she made to show rarity.

 

Again I think its because shes young. And even if ponies like twilight could use their magic by their age its because twilight special talent is magic.

And she also doesn't know what her special talent is. I assume all unicorns can eventually learn to use the levitation magic to some form of success. But I think any other magic related things are based on their talents.

 

Although, I find it kinda odd that Scootalo can't fly and apple bloom isn't any good with growing things.

I’ve noticed that no one in the show uses magic more than Twilight does, to me it seems like Rarity uses magic sparingly compared to Twilight. Maybe between Sweetie Belle being too young to really have much magical ability and the amount of screen time she receives we don’t see her use magic.

 

I don’t believe she “can’t use magic because she’s too young” like stated early Pumpkin Cake used magic and so did Twilight in her entrance exam before she had her cutie mark as well as Rarity, though her horn kind of took control there for awhile

Her name is Pumpkin cake. Also it seems nobrony paid attention to Rarity and Twilight in the beginning of the episode. Baby unicorns get strange magic surges that come and go. It appears to be a normal thing that happens to all baby unicorns, even Sweetie bell.

The best thing about CMC right now is all the hypotheses regarding their special talents (Which actually isn't so hard to figure out, unless the story writers are being really mean).

That just shows of great writing... You really want to know what their special talents are... yet you don't. The suspense is so good for you .

I read somewhere that Faust was stating that Scootaloo is supposed to be a cripple and discover that her special talent is involved somewhere on the ground, like her scooter .

I have the impression Sweetie Belle isn't as interested in studying magic as a unicorn typically is. In fact, all three of the Cutie Mark Crusaders are given to shifting their interests on a whim. It's heavy implied in "The Show Stoppers" that Apple Bloom, Scootaloo, and Sweetie Belle each have their own special talents which they have yet to recognize. Unlike the other two, however, Scootaloo seems to be physically incapable of flight (at least not at this time), hence her abiding interest in scooters as a means of quick transportation. Even if she dedicated herself to learning how to fly, it may not be currently possible for her to do anything about it.

 

In short, I suspect the Cutie Mark Crusaders could do a heck of a lot more if they focused their energies on porjects close to their respective skill sets rather than blindly charging into whatever interests them at that moment in time. Aside from Scootaloo, I don't they are "handicapped"---just a bit scatterbrained.

It's very stupid to see that any unicorn should be as powerful as Twilie, or as bizarrely strong as Pumpkin Cake on her infancy when it's already stated that all baby unicorn have random magic outburst that's likely won't be permanent :/

Can i just ask why it is that everyone seems to think that she will never fly? Where did these insinuations even come from? I dont recall there ever being a reference to scootaloo being unable to fly in the show.

 

As for the original question of why Sweetie belle cannot use magic, perhaps is just to young to be using it often. like in the show, how many other filly unicorns have we seen doing magic besides Rarity and twilight?

Personally i think Sweetie Belle isn't magically crippled but if Twilights reaction to teleporting herself and several others over a very large distance is any indication- magic can take alot out of you. Twilight who is probably on par with the princesses in magical potentcy nearly collapses after that spell.

It maybe that Sweetie belle just finds it easier to do things by hoof. not to mention magic seems to take some level of concentration and she seems to have a mild case of A.d.d. I mean just look at her face in the begining of the zap apple episode. she clearly isn't paying attention to Stikin Rich's rivetting presentation.

And theres another thing with magic being held by perhaps 1/3rd of her worlds population maybe she just doesn't find it interesting. We live in a world where something like magic is so astonishingly unusual we would say Of course its interesting! But if it we're common place would as many of us really be interested? It probably is alot like chemistry. lots of people make limited use of it while knowing little about it. but most people aren't interested in REALLY knowing alot about chemistry.

I think Sweetie Belle just doesn't need to rely on her magic. Maybe she can use it but she's too occupied with trying to find her cutie mark. Who knows? Maybe magic is what she's good at but she's doesn't use it so that's why she can't get her cutie mark yet. And Lauren Faust probably doesn't want to give her, her cutie mark without Scootaloo and Apple Bloom getting there's as well.

 

As for Scootaloo...Well she just confuses me. Like why isn't she in Cloudsdale? And I don't think she can't fly because during episode 23, she used her wings to propel herself forward on a skateboard. So I guess maybe she could hover if she wanted too. Or maybe she'll end up like Fluttershy, flying slowly and usually low to the ground.

I wouldn't love my sister Rarity, not when she's so unhelpful.

There should be like adult ponies whose childhood relates to taht of the CMC who eventually help the three get their cutie marks.

Like a better, successful version of Cutie Mark Chronicles.

This clip is what makes me believe that Scootaloo can't fly, go to 4:30.

What i get from this clip is that she's able to USE her wings, they're however not strong enough to lift her up. Meaning that perhaps Scootaloo is not crippled, but she/her wings hasn't matured just yet.
