Not this again!

It is a stupid and mindless "insult".

just a phrase for neophyte trolls to abuse over and over.

Thank you!

Here is the answer, not a bad question for newcomers to the fandom though.

Cancer is a malfunction in the cell cycle causing the cell to grow and divide uncontrollably, killing the tissue around it.

The brony fandom? Sounds more like a plague to the internet rather than cancer, but besides, it's uncomparable because it doesn't result in dead people.

Do you know what's a real cancer to the world? Hate, It caused all bad shit, and it's the only thing you can blame for most human conflicts that occurred in history. And Humanity itself, is a cancer to earth. Disrupting Biochemical cycles with all this pollution, and destroying biodiversity with overpopulation  and devouring all what is left for our own selfish uses. It won't affect us now, hell no, but what you need to think about is the generations to follow, the future of our home, destroy the one and only place in the universe are we crazy?

This is my opinion, no flaming please.

Ignore those morons. Cancer jokes aren't funny, so what they're saying is invalid anyway. People on the internet can be seriously intolerant, but it's just best to ignore some people. A lot of bronies are good people, as well as alot of bronies are creepy weirdos. We're subject to the flaws of any other internet fandom out there. So, when people claim bronies are the "scum of the internet" they really need to take a look at themselves. I think the judgemental folk are the scum, but hey, that's just me. :)

I can definitely appreciate the consternation over how appropriate it is to compare an internet community to a deadly disease.  On the other hand, I think the analogy is sometimes fair.  Calling something "cancerous" refers to some of the properties of cancer.  Namely, its tendency to infiltrate a (biological) system, interfere with normal functions and be difficult to remove.  I'm not trying to be captain obvious here, but to people who don't enjoy MLP, our community's zeal fits all of the above criteria.

But whatever...if they can't adjust the rustlin' threshold of their jimmies warehouse, that's their problem.

Honestly, only the haters say that. Or that people that see it spread around so much, lol. But it is spread around for a good reason, if it was a bad show, why would people want to spread it around so much?

Well, it's no secret that our fandom can be pretty obnoxious at times, but calling us the cancer of the internet because we like a show with a different target demographic is utterly idiotic.  The amount of art, music, video, literature, and charitable donations caused by the brony phenomenon is just staggering, and is a testament to how inspirational a show can truly be.

Bah, everything's cancer these days. Ponies, memes, games, you name it. I really don't care for this phrase anymore. It's just a phrase for neophyte trolls to abuse over and over.

Was... was that a pun on your avatar, by any chance?

NO way are Bronies the Cancer of the internet. They are all just jellly of Our Brony SWagger and our good, loving, close communities :)

I am really, really sorry, but this is a bland and really arrogant way to see everything.

The fact that someone hates something you like doesn't automatically imply they are jealous of it, it's maybe because of the fact people have a different opinion that you do.

Also, fun fact is, everyone always declares ''X'' and ''Y'' is ''the cancer of the internet'' they did so with Beliebers, they did so with BOTDF, but generalizing something isn't the correct way to see things.

All fandoms have that ''Creepy town'' where creeps take their shows too damn seriously (Being this /mlp/ or Ponychan in this side) Just that this fandom has it on a bigger volume considering how mainstream the show has become.

Just need to clarify something here. Cancer of the Internet is an analogy, it means something that starts to infect every aspect of the diversity of the Internet until you can't go anywhere without seeing it's presence, like Justin Beiber a few years back. So by that definition yes Bronies=Cancer, but whether that's bad is debatable. Say if you don't like the show it's understandable you would get angry at the over-saturation this show gets on the Internet.

These 'haters' as you have so readily labeled just want a balance restored, they would like the places they frequent to be pony free, it isn't hard to understand. Of course there are some that just enjoy annoying people, they are the real haters. But for the most part they are just sick of seeing ponies everywhere.

So yeah, we're definitely cancer.

Surprising enough I can actually find a 'pony hater's' point in this sort of thing. To be honest, some people who are fans of mlp will go a little too far. Some will come out of nowhere and randomly express their love for mlp on something that has nothing to do with it and these people who don't care automatically assume thats how all bronies are based on their experience. So really, in a way we kind of are asking to be called the cancer of the internet. Nobody said it would be easy to enjoy a childs cartoon and proudly support it where the internet tough guys will see it. Or maybe I'm just a heartless person.

Actually you have a point here, I like the show myself, but I don't go around trying to get everyone I know into MLP, i just talk about it when someone asks me about it, but i don't force it into anyone.

There are bronies with SERIOUS issues, just watch that MyLittleSpaghetti Youtube channel and you'll know what i'm talking about.

Oh man I was actually looking for a channel to have an example of and you just found it for me. I know he probably might have issues and when people across the internet who are such things like homophobic see this, it just puts in a bad name for the mlp community and bam there you have the so called haters. Ill also admit I was a hater once as well(Weren't we all skeptical at first?) and the first thing I noticed about mlp was the obnoxious people and therefore i assumed all bronies were... autistic and things... but don't worry I found that to be incorrect and in fact most of the people are pretty cool.

That isn't even an insult! I laugh at the people who call us cancerous cells, whilst silenty judging them from afar and poking fun at how goddamn stupid they are.

Yes and No:

Yes, we spread like the cells that cause cancer do.

No, we aren't harming anyone, and the fandom is the hands down MOST creative out of any fandom I've seen. We're trying to do good things if anything, and cancer only seeks to harm (a.k.a. most haters).

The internet has a new "cancer" every few years. It's how it has always been.

Really though, on the internet, like in life, the only true philosophical cancer of humanity is HATE.

YES! like homestuck, Homestuck is awesome, it was a "cancer" at some point. Or Cod, im not a cod fan myself but let the cod fans have there fun, Right?

Then again you are not looking at the other side of the spectrum, geez guys, can't you admit that nothing is perfect? Seriously, i can't believe myself someone like a Brony could not realize the fact that not ALL the fandom is harmless, peaceful and therefore perfect.

This is a huge lie, many ''bronies'' are actual cancer here, and no, not refering myself to the disease, but to the fact they are responsable of making people hate them and spread it around like a wildfire.

I have seen many of these guys in Youtube, Facebook, any social mainstream network where they act like huge douches, using elitism and stupid crap like that with those who don't watch or just don't like it.

*sigh*

You're right, and I know you're right, and I'm sorry if I came off as a prude, I acknowledge those people and I think they are a disgrace to our fandom.

But think of all the people around MLPForums, these are undoubtedly good people, which is why I see it like that. If you look far enough, and not even that far, you'll find both good and bad bronies, depends on who you look at.

No, I would say the real cancer of the internet are trolls themselves especially ones who obsess over Call of Duty or any M rated games just to be cool. And because they think it's weird for teenage or adult guys to watch a show that looks like it's for little girls and they don't want that fandom to exist so they troll fans of this franchise hoping they will leave. It kind of reminds me how kids wanted to kill Barney. I've seen weird fandoms before but fandoms can be as weird as they want, that's what makes them so fun. I think the world would be incomplete without weird fandoms. I've even seen teens with Elmo and Cookie Monster T-shirts.

My point is just don't listen to any trolls who call us cancer, because if they're wrong, they're wrong.

Cancer? No. Flu? Definitely.

I won't say that bronies aren't everywhere, cause we bloody well are, but hey, so are memes, and cats, and [insertanythingfromtheinternethere.] My problem with the anti-bronies is why they can't just ignore the fact that we're everywhere, and that's cause they don't want to. It's a fad to hate things.

If anything the haters themselves are cancer. Bronies are just another fandom. Just like any games, shows, movies, etc. Haters in general are a cancer for any fandom because they seek to ruins people's day. Pretty much the people who hate on anything

Well Bunny, if anything I'd say that TROLLS are the cancer of the internet.... The bronies are innocent, "who cares if dudes are into MLP, what's it to you?" right?... In fact Bunny, it was probably those intolerant, rude TROLLS who made up that line, "Bronies are cancers of the internet".

TROLLS are an unfortunate and constant annoyance like bullying is outside of the internet... The lot of them only seek to make lives miserable, in the same way a bully or a sociopath does. To cause pain simply because they feel pleasure by doing so... I don't think they care one iota about what bronies think or that they like MLP and stuff. Simply put everypony, they are just bored jerks with nothing better to do than intently hurt people just cause... They make a thing out of it: Hunt, hurt anyone and generally don't like anything never mind bronies and MLP... They dislike just in general and I'm getting really tired of it too... All the anti bullying and rallies to stop it. It's still happening...

This has been SuperBrony87 and I say TROLLS and Cyberjerks are the cancer of the internet and you guys go get down with your brony selves with your head high. It's nothing against you TROLLS just hate everything. Thanks for reading

Seeing grown men obsessed with a little kids show and still act full of themselves is one of the most ironic things I've seen in my life.

Anyway, with regards to the topic, I can't say it's that bad... yet. It's worse than it was before, but there's a lot of good in the fandom still here, it's just easy to forget about it when faced with all of the stupid crap about it. A lot of people here are normal people (or can at least pass for normal in public) that are here to share common interests and talk.
