So I'm thinking of starting a new subgenre of music called "Ponygrind".

OK so I'm pissed off with the majority of brony music being EDM so I'm going to invent my own subgenre of well, brony music. It'll be My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic meets early Carcass and Napalm Death. I'm going to use song titles such as "Parasprite Maggot Infestation", "Anti-Brony Genocide", "Abominated Anal Muffins", "Rainbow Cyanide Vomit", "Spermicide Cupcake Frosting", "Equestrian Anarchy" and "Prince Blue Blood to the Guillotine". In fact I'm trying to come up with the lyrics right now. BTW I googled "Ponygrind" and didn't find anything. Guess I'm going to be a pioneer.

  • 1 month later...

It seems that we had the same idea. 99% of brony music is fucking dubstep.

We need ponygrind, ponycore (brony hardcore punk), brony black metal (yeah...), brony death metal (OH YEAH!).

Oh my gosh, all of my yes. I would totally listen to this, seeing as I'm not a fan of dubstep or the sappy crap, which appear to be the only two genres. This would be entertaining. :P

There really does need to be more variety. I am a fan of electronic music, especially Trance and Hardstyle, but even moreso I'm a metalhead. Unfortunately there isn't enough power and melodic death metal out there anyway and even less in pony style. Even when there is some sort of rock or metal it's either extreme hardcore "scream until you die" metal or something like Loyalty. (Loyalty is admittedly one of the best pony songs ever but that's about as high as I've seen the bar go except for a few rare instances)

There needs to be more metal in general that isn't growling/screaming. I like growling, I really do, but when you've got bands that either mix singing and growling (Scar Symmetry) or just plain use amazing vocals (Iced Earth) how can that not be a thing? The reason people always correlate metal with screaming is because there's almost an overwhelming ratio of metal that is scream and growl with no clean vocals. Can metal players really not sing so they have to take the other route and use a generic growl?

Hopefully it will turn out better then my attempt at making a new subgenre (Raomba).  I actually would like to hear some of what will come out of this.  Napalm Death is a great band to be basing a sound on, and I would like to see how you could relate a song to ponies.

I like all music type, but not hearing any hardcore brony songs is disappointing. I sincerely hope that this sub-genre picks up soon. Some of the titles you have come up with are epic!

Hey guys, I think I'm going to name my band either Neighhoof Death or Nayham. Anyone else have any suggestians for my band name? tongue.png

I actually prefer Carcass but, Scum is one of my favorite albums ever. I'm actually trying to learn how to play "Human Garbage" right now.

Honestly, I think too many people spend too much time worrying about the genre of their music. I find the best stuff wanders between genres because the musicians were more into making the music than trying to pre-categorized it and limiting themselves.

I'm actually working on a theme that focused on Discord called "Wonderful Chaos". I call this genre "Super Pony Metal". I don't know when it will be finished, but I'll definitely put it up on the forums.

True enough as that is it doesn't change the fact that one's preference makes them notice an imbalance. I personally will listen to any music but I still have my favorite genres.

Hmm...well it's nice to know that we have similar ideas

Expect mine was a brony Sludge Metal/Industrial influenced band

Still a Ponygrind genre sounds really awesome

I'd definitely join in on one

Hah, yeah. I like Iced Earth and Scar Symmetry too. However, I don't have any problem with "scream until you die" metal, and to be fair, I haven't heard much of that metal in this fandom. I mostly just pass by over-chugging metalcore or carbon-copy traditional death metal with vocals from people who can't growl. To put this into perspective, bronies think Yaplap does great metal vocals. Seriously?

Most clean vocals sound a bit too nasally too, as if they're singing above their vocal range. Practice, guys.

And there's a ton of melodic death metal and power metal. Those two subgenres are ultra-famous. Just not in the fandom ('pony style', as you mentioned).

I'd really like to see some Iced Earth-esque music in the fandom, now that you mention it. Oh, and this 'ponygrind' would be pretty cool too.

At first I was thinking about pony-themed grindcore but now, I kinda want to mix grindcore with death metal. So it's like Death's early stuff mixed with Napalm Death. Oh and I also had the idea of pony-themed doom metal. tongue.png I think I'm going name my band Nayhem Death.

Oh you'll love it, it'll be the most extreme kind of brony music yet. I just need a drumer and a bassist :(

I actually have more songs that are acoustic/instrumental based, than I do electro in general.

Probably about 140+:20

But I'd love to see a new subgenre emerge, I'll give it a chance.

Well it won't be acoustic and it will have singing. By "not acoustic" I mean, heavily distorted. tongue.png

Wait, how exactly did you break it? Did you break a hole in one of the drums or something?

I want Pony Country and Hair metal, dammit. Why do I always have to be the one listening to unloved genres noone wants to make music in?

..Why can't we have happy sunshine rainbow brony music? All thats out there is dubstep and there should be more genres but why so... angry? img-1295337-1-sad.png

Becouse happy music is kinda lame and becouse I want to make pony-themed grindcore and death metal. There's plenty of "happy" acoustic stuff anyways.

Hey, I don't care how cheesy something is, I'm not going deny liking it. I wear my guilty pleasures as a badge of honor, questions about my taste be damned

Well, good for you! I don't have any guilty pleasures, except for Call Me Maybe. But yea, I find hair metal a bit too poppy for my taste. Now that I think of it, I kinda want more pony themed thrash metal. :(

Yeah, i tried to play Heroes of Our time and i went at it too hard. I put a hole in the bass drum which surprised me since those things were supposed to be designed to take punishment. or so i think.

Again, there used to be this brony artist called Dethonator, and was one of the few who isn't terrible. He made lots of thrash stuff, including a one and a half hour compilation of discarded riffs and songs called "Failed Abortions".

He also made an "Evil Enchantress" thrash song based off of Slayer and Emperor. You'd like him.

If his stuff was still on youtube. :(

I found this band on Youtube called "Hooves in the Throne Room". They (or he) made black metal covers of songs from the show.

Wait, what happened to him. Why aren't his songs on Youtube anymore? Did he die?

When you guys make some sick post-hardcore/metal-core kinda brony music

Grindcore and metalcore/post-hardcore aren't the same thing. They're VERY different.
