Is My Dad...A Brony?

Feather Gem

Recommended Posts

I posted this earlier in another topic.

I forced him to watch a few episodes, made him listen to me blabber on about ponies.

And well...now we watch ponies at least once a week together.  And he doesn't even complain.  In fact, I just asked him a while ago 'On Sunday, we can watch the new pony episode' and all he said was 'Okay'.  Like he didn't mind at all.

I mean, he is no where near being a brony, but still.

We watched Hearths Warming Eve and he asked 'What are those things called?'  'Windigoes'  'Oh'

'What are those two boy ponies names?'  'Snips and Snails'  'Weird...I didn't know there were boy ponies'  'What?  You saw Twilight's brother'  'I know...but...'

I asked him which pony he likes.  'I don't know any of them like you do'  'Just pick one'  'The...blue one...at the beginning'  'Luna!'

I asked him to watch the first two episodes and told him other episodes were better.  'It's not as bad as you said'  'I never said it was bad...the others are just better'

And in addition to these above, I believe if he had to pick out of the Mane Six, he would pick Applejack.

We watched May The Best Pet Win earlier and I asked 'Did you hear what she named the tortoise?'  'No...'  'Tank'  'Oh yeah.  I did hear that'

We also watched The Crystal Empire, and The Return Of Harmony.

And he stayed up until 12:30AM because I wanted him to watch Keep Calm and Flutter On with me after it came out.

And...today...

'I want to write a My Little Pony story'

MIND-BLOWN.

I mean, he had this idea when they were still in G3.  He wanted to write one of the children's stories.  (they wouldn't let him, or anyone besides their own writers) (he's also a publisher author) But STILL

And he discussed it with me as well.

And then I asked him:

'Are you...a brony?'

Silence.

'Are you?' -laughs-

Silence.

'Woah...are you a BRONY?!'

'Maybe.'

Like...what the heck happened.

Also, I hope this doesn't offend other bronies.  But my dad is like...older then ALL of you.  ALL of you.  Probably older then most bronies.  Older then at least 90%

And he is the last person I'd expect...

IS HE...A BRONY?!

(cause if he was, my life would be complete)

EDIT:

Oh and I also held out my fist to him and he put his to it.  Then I was like 'bro-hoof!'  (I do that to annoy people.  I'm bad xD)

And then I held out my fist again and said 'bro-hoof?' and he flippin' bro-hoofed me.

A Brony dad.....some people have all the luck XD lol. Consider yourself lucky, I'd love to have a dad I could even tell I was a Brony and he would tolerate it let alone have one who became one too.

My folks tolerate my being a brony, but I don't think they'd ever watch the show with me. Dad actually makes fun of me about it, but not in a malicious way. He makes fun of me for tons of non-pony things. But I'd never be able to get either of my parents to watch the show with me. I'm jelly.

Well, it's not all bad. I have managed to get my younger brothers to watch the show. The sixth grader will try and sing the songs along with me, while the eighth grader would never admit to liking it, and gets embarrassed when we sing 'Smile, Smile, Smile' to him in public. But he does like it. He told me so.

If he is not already it sounds like he just might be soon, when I first watched the show I saw the Discord two parter because my friend wanted my opinion on it and though I fell in love with Discord immediately I wasn't a full blown fan just yet. A few episodes later starting from episode 1 I thought (this is actually pretty good) then after a few more I thought (wow this is really good I am definitely a fan but not really a brony) and after a few more (oh man, I can't stop thinking about ponies aw screw it I am a brony).

Hello!

Well, he might be, as he said. You'd actually should feel very happy and proud about this... Not everyone's parrents are okay with this... But if your parents like the show also! Then wow, you've hit the Jackpot!

Parrents are probably one of the main obstacles to overcome... Then ofcourse comes, society, and yourself.

Wow!  That's actually pretty cool.  Even if he doesn't become a brony (I see becoming a brony as a self-acceptance, and he shouldn't really be considered one until he can fully admit it), just the fact that he watches the show with you is pretty awesome.  You're quite the lucky person.

You're damn lucky. it'll take 1000 years for my dad to submit to watch the show, hes absolutly convinced this whole thing is a fad. I mean, he and i watch other show like House and greys anatomy together, but he will never submit to mlp. Although, i dont mind this, as he doesnt hate on me to say the least; probably due to the fact that my lil sis like the show to the same magnitude as i.

As to your dad, i mean, he wants to write a story about them and BROHOOFED YOU?I dont even have any brony friends, and you got your dad bronyfied. lucky bucker.

Wow.

You have no idea how lucky you are.

I have parents who don't like the idea is still watch cartoons. Based on this fact I don't think they will ever get me being a brony, let alone give the show a chance.

If you have a dad that is becoming a brony then good for you. It makes things less ackword with you being a brony, and actually it may improve whatever relationship you have with your dad.

Mostly...fantasy adventure.  (although only one of those is published)

And children's books... (a four part series)

Oh and some other thing I only heard of last year because no one told me xD

(I can further let you know if you'd like in a PM.  Don't want to get TOO off topic xD)

That's awesome that your dad's a brony! O: You can ask him to drive you to Bronycons and he won't reject you for watching ponies >.< I find it very rare to see someone whose dad's a brony and you're one of the lucky ones xP

lucky! my dad doesn't like cartoons, that's why i'm too afraid to watch mlp in front of anyone even though i'm a girl. the other day while i was watching Dexter's laboratory, he came in and took over the tv. then when i complained, he told me to "grow up" and  "cartoons are for children"  <_< you're lucky your dad is a brony. you should be proud

anyway he better get over it, because my dream job is animation, i would even be happy animating children's cartoons.

If he's not now, I would say he is on the verge of becoming one. I would say he is soon to be a Brony.

God, that is so awesome, and I am sooo jelly right now...

You're jelly?

-pokes to see-

Hmm...well I guess the fact that Malaysia has barely anything pony-related is made up for the fact that my father might be a brony

I would say that he is one of the few TBB (to be bronies) bronies that watch the show more and more without a doubt of hating it at all

or they just want to give it a TRYYYYYYYYYY god.

Maybe xD

My folks tolerate my being a brony, but I don't think they'd ever watch the show with me. Dad actually makes fun of me about it, but not in a malicious way. He makes fun of me for tons of non-pony things. But I'd never be able to get either of my parents to watch the show with me. I'm jelly.

Another person thats jelly!  You should get that checked!

-cough-  Anyway.

That's cool that you have people closer to your age who are bronies!  xD

xD How could any pony NOT fall in love with Dizzy?

Well different family members can relate to one another in a variety of ways, and maybe he can see it as a way of getting to know you better. What a great blessing. Treasure it for what it's worth!

I thought that too.  Maybe he just wants to get to know me better.

xD Thanks

I wonder if I could call him a brony?  I don't think he likes it as much as we do.

xD I'll ask him again after we watch the new episode.  (he's nice, he won't mind if I ask ten times)

You're damn lucky. it'll take 1000 years for my dad to submit to watch the show, hes absolutly convinced this whole thing is a fad. xD I don't have any brony friends either.  But I hope you find some, some day xD  (you will...eventually...maybe)

Haha, that's awesome. :P Everyone here tells horror stories about their parents not accepting something as simple as watching MLP, but I guess this is inspiration to some people who're afraid of their parents finding out.

Inspiration? :D My favorite thing to give!

Wow.

It isn't awkward.  (I'm still young, and a girl so they think that's okay)  But I hope it improves it xD

I wish there WERE bronycons around here!

But I'm sure if there was, he would make my mom take me.

your dad just got 20% cooler! B)

Awww :3 it seems to me you have a great relationship with your father which is just awesome. I think he enjoys the show and enjoys spending time with you. Him being a published author is very neat to know. I think whoever enjoys the show can be considered a brony/pegasister.

Thanks for sharing and by the way you have a sweet dad! :3

My parents detest the show and would not even let me give them a chance to show them a episode. They called me a creep for liking the show :(. They are very close minded people....

That's so exciting! My dad at least gave it a chance, but he didn't seem to like it. To his credit, he watched two episodes...

As for your dad being older than all of us, I went to Bronycon in NJ (the one in the Brony documentary, actually, hahaha) and there were dudes who were easily in their 50s-60s. He wouldn't be alone if he went to something like that. Good for him!

My dad is in a similar state. He'll watch episodes with me and seems okay with it. He's giving it a chance. And he recognises "Rainbow Chick" as the "go-getter"
