Castoro Chiaro 181 February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 Ehh, I don't really think that side of the fandom is BAD, I just...don't get why it needs a label?? I mean, there's a mature part of damn near every fandom out there. It's just a reality of being part of the fandom scene. Odds are, even in a small group, there will be a person who wants to see those characters doing terrible things to each other. This is the only fandom I've seen that gives those types a whole name and identity. But whatever. Not personally fond of most of the works I've seen, but I'll admit there's some very talented people who draw mature works. 24 -- I'm also of the opinion that deliberate lies and innuendos should never be allowed to go unopposed. Shanks 10,816 February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 While it is unfair for all bronies to be labeled as cloppers as not all of them are I don't really consider cloppers to be the "dark side of the fandom". Most cloppers tend to keep it to themselves as that is even more taboo than actually liking the show in the first place, there are a lot of these white knights out there that keep putting certain parts of the fandom down that they don't agree with and cloppers are their most common target. I would define them along with some bronies which can get a bit pushy with trying to expand the herd as being the "dark side" but both groups are fortunately in the minority. As for cloppers they are far from dying out, the amount of rule 34 related images and fics is growing fairly quickly. 9 Rarity Get's Cockroaches
Fridge 382 February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 While its unfair that we all can get branded with the 'clopper' stigma I actually have no real feelings about them. As far as I understand most people don't even know what a 'clopper' is. Yeah websites etc (howard stern too) will bring it up from time to time but just like with Howard Stern and Josh O (it that his name?) it all dies down and is forgotten until the next time its brought up. Which, as you may notice, is less and less often. I'll admit I've called clopping the 'dark side' of the fandom myself, but I don't mean its wrong or evil, just that its something that doesn't really see the light of day often. Twinhead B 482 February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 (edited) I would hardly call Cloppers the "dark side" of the fandom. The characters in the show have believable enough personalities that there is a real grey area between perverted behavior and longing for the idea of their "dream girl". Men find the female form attractive, even if their mind knows its fake. Women are the same way with the male form. Despite having social rules that are against it, clopping and Rule 34 isn't as unnatural as people make it seem. Even fetish material isn't all that unnatural, given how many different fetishes there are. While most people refuse to admit it (again, because of those darned social rules), many people have some sort of fetish or another. Here's a list (maybe NSFW), some of these fetishes aren't strange at all, while others seem completely bonkers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_paraphilias Getting back on topic though, I would be inclined to believe that the darkside of the fandom are those who make gore/grimdark stories and art. I just can't see how anyone could get behind that... An Old Head 4,816 February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 There is no dark side to this fandom, it's called different preferences. If people clop, just leave them to it. So what if you think it's wrong, or disgusting? If it doesn't concern you, ignore it, and if someone brands you a clopper through generalisation, it takes about ten seconds to tell them you're not. As I like to say, to each his own. I would agree that it's becoming less and less of a discussed topic. Most of us have realised that we just need to go our separate ways, which I'm very glad to see.

On topic, Referring to the fetish/gore side of the fandom, I would have to say it really isn't dying down all that much, they're just keeping it to themselves, which I am quite glad to see... Millfox 28 February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 I'm a furry, and I do enjoy R34 art. I can tell you that many people greatly participated in this fandom are also part of the furry fandom as well, and without us it just wouldn't be the same. For instance our national brony comunity was built by a bunch of furries who really liked the show. More people joined in over time and now we have over 1000 members. That's almost 50 times more than the original group. I understand that some find this distasteful but don't judge people on this single preference please. I know a lot of furries and a few bronies, even a few furrybronies and most of those people have completely normal interests, jobs and relationships. There are a few douche bags and creeps but let's be honest... most social groups have those. I wouldn't call us the "dark side"... if you want to see dark take a visit to 4chan section and grimdark part of the fandom or perhaps the fluffy pony gore. Perhaps its just my biology studies speaking I wouldn't want to see this part of the fandom leave as well. It creates diversity, and that is important in an environment that has any ambitions for longer tern survival. “HA HA! IT MATTERETH NOT HOW HARD THOU SLAPPEST OUR FACE! Aaramus 449 February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 What you call the "dark side" of the fandom probably isn't dying due to the continuing popularity of the show and the steady acceptance that people actually enjoy it. On the other hand however, if you're going call any part of the fandom the "dark side", I would only include the bronies who give the rest of us a bad name, those being the people who try to convert others who aren't interested. The ones that spam it in the comments and generally irritate people by trying to get anyone and everyone to watch the show. Whether that's dying out, I'd probably say no as well. Haven Celestii 9,385 February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 Subfurries? Are you seriously trying to group cloppers with furries just because of that? That's bad and you should feel bad. First off, the correct term you're looking for is 'yiffer'. As not all furries like to look at furry pronz either, just like bronies. Second off, you're completely wrong to begin with, so it doesn't matter what term you use. You pretty much invalidated yourself when you did exactly what other people do to us to furries in your OP. And no, I'm pretty sure its not dying out at all. No faster than the fandom as a a whole at least. They are somewhat keeping to themselves a tad bit more than they used to. Which, isn't much more at all, really.

If this post is removed whatever, but I feel that this is something that needs to be addressed I'm tired of being called "the dark side of the fandom". "Regular" bronies vs cloppers is the same battle as Bronies vs haters. I never go around posting porn and telling everyone what I do, It is at the absolute minimum, and your fears of the fandom being hated only because of that are irrational, Bronies are generally hated just because people are afraid of what they don't understand. I'm a clopper, and I'm not a furry. I'd never want to have sex with Bugs Bunny or Sonic, and I don't engage in any furry associated activities. This has been addressed many times, and you are not the only one to react to this negatively, but you should realize that the fear or hate ( or which ever feelings you have), you feel because you don't understand what we do. For the thing about humans doing stuff with humans... I'll be honest here... There is enough "flavor" to rule 34. There is everything from completely humanized to normal ponies, and everything in the middle, so people can be cloppers without actually finding regular ponies attractive. Anyway, I don't see why "the dark side" ( keeps reminding me of Star Wars, crap) would be dying out. And really, if you've ever seen pony porn, you should know that at least I personally don't just take everything, I always have to go through maybe 20 pages to find one picture I like, so if you see some gross kinky stuff out there, you don't have to assume everyone likes it.
Batbrony 16,053 February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 I'll say this; they're still there for sure, no denying that. I mean heck, John de Lancie even recognized their existence in the "Let's Go Meet the Bronies" vid (which was amazing!!! ). But, as others have pointed out, they're being significantly quieter about it, that's for sure. I mean, yeah, if you want to find a bunch of clopper images or a gore/clop fic, you can really easily, probably more easily than ever, but they're not really advertising themselves anymore. There hasn't been a "Cupcakes" or "Rainbow Factory" this season really, and maybe it's largely that after those two, this type of stuff lost its shock value, and thus nopony except for cloppers or grimdark fans are aware of or read/view specific titles/images anymore. So yeah, I'm glad both (1) for the fandom that we don't have to worry about these guys getting advertised as members/faces of the community quite so much anymore, but also (2) that there's still a place in the fandom for these bronies. Sure, I don't approve of what they do, nor do I understand the appeal, but hey, if that's how they appreciate the show and fandom, that's their choice. "You'll hunt me. You'll condemn me, set the dogs on me. Because that's what needs to happen. Because sometimes... cupcakes aren't good enough. Sometimes ponies deserve more. Sometimes ponies deserve to have their faith rewarded... with muffins!!!" -The Muffin Mare
Rainbow Dash 1,472 February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 there will always be a dark side to every fandom. Cloppers arent hurting anyone really. I find them pretty funny but hey thats me. Agent505 661 February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 (edited) Welp, may as well come out since everyone else is. Most of the points have already been said, so I don't have any real need to repeat anything, apart from my belief (and many others) that there's nothing wrong with it. Everyone has something that even they find a little weird about themselves. I don't find it weird to clop to ponies. And honestly, if I didn't come out with it here, none of you would know - that just proves exactly how much of an impact we're having on "the rest of you." Despite the fact we are one and the same, we're the same fandom people! Everyone has different tastes and interests, just because one persons differs from yours, doesn't make them bad. PoniesPlease 365 February 4, 2013 Share February 4, 2013 It seems highly "Intolerant" to label them as the "Dark Side" of the fandom. I myself, don't find such things attractive, but aren't we told to accept all Bronies? Anyway, the point is, it seems harsh to title them in the way OP has. Every fandom has this "Dark Side", and if being called a "Clopper" bothers you that much OP, then maybe there's another issue there for you to look at.
