gaming My Broken (Haunted?) Copy of Pokemon Blue

Harmonic Revelations

Recommended Posts

So, I had a copy of Pokemon Blue from way back. I played it for a very, VERY long time. I had quite a lot of good experiences with that game. Charmander was always my favorite starter, actually. Anyways, that's not the point I'm getting at. Something strange has been happening when I put in the Gameboy recently.

For example, when I load up the game, the title screen is jumbled. I of course assume this is due to some internal damage. I just felt lucky it started up at all, considering I made absolutely no effort to keep it in good quality.

I had just started a new game under my favorite name ever, George. And the game appeared to start normally, albeit the music being a bit odd. I doubt this is paranormal music phonemona as I was able to rip the music to my computer. After that, I just continued like normal. I'll post more when I play it more. I guess I'll eventually post a video with what happened to the music, it's pretty weird, and not all that melodic, if I say so myself.

Follow the thread for more, I'll keep you posted on what happens.

Check your pokemon. Is one of them ghost? :V Also, check your trainer card to see how many hours it says you have played.

This shall be fun.

Sounds like the game is just getting old.

Or your game will start talking to you and causing your loved ones to slowly die one by one.

^

GET RID OF THAT GAME

I'm an orphan thanks to Pokemon Blue at this point. First it was telling me to do mundane normal things, but don't trust it! Soon it'll have full control of you!

My play time clocks in at 192:34 for whatever odd reason. I have all three starters for some reason even though I chose Charmander. I also haven't run into any wild Pokemon even though I've run circles in the grass.

Also, I have a video with the music that plays at the start.

It should be noted that 240p is how you hear it in game.

It's MISSSINGNO.

Anyway, how exactly do you rip music from a cartridge onto your computer? Better yet, how do you extract a ROM? I'm curious. Anyway, if it's not hypnotizing you, then I think it's fine. Otherwise, I'd suggest getting a new game.

Hmm. How strange. Now, Harmonic, you didn't happen to buy this game from a wise old man, a garage sale, or flea-market, did you? Cos, that never ends well.

Ha, no. If I said something like that, I'd be lying and probably over dramatic. I actually got the game from my cousin who lives in North Carolina. Also, if it's anything worth noting, the Old Man that teaches you how to catch Pokemon tried to catch a Weedle with Professor Oak's sprite.

Good ol' Blametruh and the blametruth project. I watched his series of his pokemon blue haunted cartridge and boy did he do a good job of making it. I'll be along for the ride ;)

I reached the first gym battle. However, when I talked to Brock, all he said was "That White Hand on your shoulder, it's not real." And then the game froze. I turned it back on, and now the music is a few pitches lower. Did I do something I'm not supposed to? I really don't want to break this cartridge, it's not every day you get a copy of Pokemon Blue that works.

When I restarted it, I noticed that my save was gone. I restarted, but I'm not really that patient, I'll try to use a gameshark to skip past the beginning.

Wutt the heck!? O-o. this is really strange XD. I think its the sound is dieing or something because it sounds like everything is going lower pitch, but its also like skipping through the song and missing notes. I can still kinda hear the music theme, but its like it skips a whole lot of notes and stuff.

So in short, this is weird XD.

192:34 o-o? Thats a weird number totally random. And you have all three starters? Lol thats awesome XD.  And no wild pokemon!?

Can you battle trainers?

I think i had a copy of one of my older pokemon games that erased my save like everytime I tried to play again.

And wut. White hand on your shoulder? Xd? thats freaky o-o. Maybe the battle with brock is so bugged it causes the game to crash, it doesn't do this with other battles? Because it could be the battles are just broken :P.

And to say that game works is.. A stretch :P. It sounds very.. broken and old :P. However it sounds kinda cool to have all the random stuff thats happening happen Xd.

I got the game to start up again, and skipped to the battle with Brock. I still have all three starters, and yes, the battle went normally this time. The battle was actually pretty easy to win, in hindsight. I got the badge like normal. I checked out my trainer card again, my name is completely scrambled it even includes the Pokeball symbol for some reason. Reminds me of how I used to tilt cartridges in N64. That caused some pretty weird stuff too.

I would assume that it was just a file switching. Upon retrying, as I had said, the battle went normally. I went travelling down the path with the other trainers so I could advance to the cave and move on to the next town. For some reason, none of them will actively approach me. However, if I talk to them, the battles start like normal.

I remember I lost my copy of Blue long ago, but it wasn't so bad since I still have Yellow. At least Blue has a good save battery unlike Gold/Silver, good thing they haven't repeated that mistake...

Anyway, hope this doesn't turn out like BEN... :o

LOL Wow, Wait so you can do battles them I assume :P. However I imagine the game might get pretty hard after a while if you can't catch pokemon since wild pokemon don't appear :P.

I never tried tilting my cartridge on my N64 :P, i feel like I'll break something to be honest. I actually heard that you can use that to activate alot of glitches, which some people use in speedruns and stuff :P. Pretty cool.

This sounds very interesting though, its like a whole new game Xd.

You wouldn't believe the shit glitched or dirty game carts can do. Look up the infamous trick of jostling around a N64 cart while it's running to induce glitches.(EDIT, looks like you mentioned it already)

It's still a nice thing to spin a story out of though, keep it up.

Also, fun fact the original Lavender Town music from Pokemon Green is disorientating because it has a literal brown note, there's a tone in it so close to the threshold of human hearing that it plays with your senses and can even cause headaches and nausea. So there's a grain of truth to that story.

I don't believe in ghosts so this is either fake, a hacked version of the game or the game getting OLD

So harmonic revelations when did this all started happening? You just decided to play your old pokemon blue cartidge? That is really creepy the audio I that you posted.

Yeah, I was just deciding to play Pokemon Blue again. The topic came up because I just replayed Pokemon Silver and beat it again. Twas' fun, but I had remembered I had an old Pokemon Blue cartridge and dug it out to play it. Basically that's how it happened.

I don't believe in ghosts either. I'm an Atheist and generally don't believe in things like spirits.. This is why the creepy things happening disturb me greatly, but I try to keep an open mind about it.

I don't want to say it, but I feel it must be said...

Pics or it didn't happen. You had me convinced until the "white hand" deal. A glitchy game doesn't suddenly make up new dialogue like that. But if you're going for a creepypasta, carry on.

It's not new dialog, someone already stated that it already exists in the code for another character to say. it wouldn't be that hard for a old game to mix up dialog lists if it was damaged bed enough.
