I've been looking forward to the 3ds version of this game for quite some time The demo made me cautious because the controls were odd for me and the "easy mission" had many failed attempts but I'm aware of the steep learning curve and I'm probs gonna buy it anyways

Get a Circle Pad Pro. The demo doesn't let you use it but the full game will, I got one pretty much just for this game. Sure, it's not the best looking thing ever, but that second stick is mandatory for Monster Hunter imo.

Anyway, I hope the vast majority of new monsters aren't weak to fire in this one, made things in Tri way too easy at times, half the time all I needed was my fire lance.

They're adding some new monsters along with some old ones so you should be fine. Also, I dunno if most were weak against fire considering that a lot of the bosses (including the last one for single player) were water types.

I'm thinking about preordering the Wii U version of this game. I played one of the PSP Monster Hunter's, but I never got into it for some reason. I may try again this time.

Ive played the PSP version and Wii version and ive gotta say, the Wii version was a lot better! There was just so much to do, the graphics and gameplay were stunning, and the multiplayer was amazing! There was even events where you could get rare weapons and armor. So yeah, Ide recommend preordering it for Wiiu. If you do, make sure to leave ur NNID here so we can form the first ever "Monster Hunter 3:Ultimate" brony clan!

Also, could you answer the questions in the poll above?

I can confirm that the Wii version is indeed better. I played both also and didn't really like the PSP version. (probably because I was playing KH: BBS while playing MH)

The Wii version was addicting, amazing, and stunning. :3 I'd definitely recommend that game to anyone who hasn't gotten it yet for their Wii. But, they are closing servers soon for MH3 I think so better just get the Wii U version. It IS supposedly an upgraded version of the game... I think.

I played Tri a little, but didn't really understand the game until I got MHFU and played it on my Vita... I honestly don't know how people play without dual analogue sticks, it seems so difficult...

Anyways, as much as I wish there was an actual Vita MH game, I do have a 3DS so I might be willing to try playing on that. No plans in the near future to buy a Wii U though.

Water monsters are weakest to fire actually, and along with the ice monsters and Great Jaggi that's a lot of monsters weak to fire in Tri, about 8 or so, which is a huge chunk of the roster.

http://monsterhunter.wikia.com/wiki/Lagiacrus

Lagombi is ice and Plesioth is water, so as long as there's less like them and a better balance of monsters of other elements it should be fine. I know there's a lot more though, and the various subspecies already seem to indicate a better balance.

So far I have tried out the Wii U Demo and 3DS Demo (Mostly Played the Wii U Demo only) and here are my thoughts:

I really like the style of the game and love the combat but i dislike the camera system, i find it a bit tricky to keep focused on the enemy. I am going to play the demo a couple of more times and see if i can finally beat the easy monster then try the harder one, last time i almost beat it but just barely ran out of time. I have tried the Sword and Shield, Great Sword, And Dual Swords. Sword and Shield seems to have a nice balance between mobility and damage output so I think I will be using that class the most, or at least as long as I am still new to the game.

Took me awhile to realize there is a manual for the game, and it helped tremendously, Wish the demo told me this first so i had a clue what i was doing the first time around.

But so far the game is a lot of fun, just seems to have a steep learning curve. I'll pick it up one day when i am not so short on cash.

Don't worry ule get it. When I picked up my first monster hunter game on the PSP, "Monster Hunter Freedom Unite," I sucked and died to pretty much every quest (besides gathering quests, haha), but I eventually got the hang of the game, started bludgeoning monsters' skulls in with a giant hammer and became the "King of Hunters." It just takes time to master, don't worry. Plus, playing online with others will help.

I'm still awful with the hammer and lance weapons... or at least it feels like I am. When I see people do videos of hunting with the hammer it always looks like they're not really hitting anything, but then it works. So far I prefer the Long Sword, though the Switch Axe looks really awesome and I've enjoyed the various ranged weapons as well.

I honestly kinda dislike the hammer. In every game, I actually always prefer to go the defensive way because the defense is the best offense as said by Doc himself. Ahuehuehue :3

Probably that's why I try to stay away from weapons like the SA, Hammer, etc. I dunno why I don't use the Gunlance though. It just doesn't move as freely as a regular lance and shoot as nice as a regular bowgun. I don't know! It's just me. :P

Nah, it's not just you. I thought the Gunlance would be pretty cool, but in reality it handles just as differently from the lance as the Great Sword does from the Long Sword, so yeah, I don't like it. Plus, no charge, and the shots don't feel like they have much impact... :/

They had to balance it out somehow. :P Or else the Gunlance would be so OP. :3

And if you just do a copy-paste, most people wouldn't like that. So... they had to mix things up I guess.

  • 2 weeks later...

I want...
Although I think you can only team up by local multiplayer for the 3ds version.
And I don't know which one I'll be getting and when.
I heard they might release a 3DS with Monster Hunter skin or something, but probably not in America... lol

Interesting, in that case, wanna team up I guess? Because from what I've seen and heard about this game, it's hard as sh*t! It's considered one of the hardest!

Although I've mostly only played the wii Monster Hunter Tri version, it's not really that hard once you get the hang of it, and the challenge is part of the fun haha.

And like I said, I'd like to, but I'm not sure which and when I'll get it... also games take a bit longer to get released where I am.

Maybe some day we can team up, but I don't think it'll be soon...Sorry.

Well, it's almost time my hunting friends! One more day separates us from a new hunting adventure! Who's excited to start hunting again?

I'm getting both the 3DS and WiiU version tomorrow. Ide love to team up but  you would need to get the WiiU version in order to do so.

I am, I fully played that demo to the limits! However, I'm only getting the 3DS version, so if at any time they DO decide to include the online, here's my friend code, cause from what I've heard, that's a wii u exclusive.img-1284884-1-ohmy.png

Cool, and I will only get the 3ds version, sadly I don't have the money for it.

Thanks, this version may not have WIFI, but the next one for 3DS, Monster Hunter 4, will (I hope they let you send over all your weapons and armor from MH3U tho cuz imma have to start from scratch again).

As much as I would like to get this game, I'm afraid I won't. I don't have a Wiiu or a 3ds (though I could get one if I stretched my budget a bit). And the 3ds version doesn't have wifi capability (I could at least ad hoc party the psp MH ) so I can't justify getting it. I'll just have to wait for the next Monster Hunter.

In Monster Hunter Freedom Unite I used the lance mostly but occasionally used the hunting horn, great sword and bow with friends. Hunting horn was pretty strange but oddly fun. I wish I used it more (and I probably will in the next game smile.png ).

I'll be getting the game for the 3DS with my MonHun group later this week, probably Wednesday. I really wish we had a WiiU to play online with though, but I'm one of those very few lucky 4-local-multiplayer people so I have no right to complain. Gonna bowgun the s*** out of the Rathian the first chance I get.

Honestly, I don't think that's gonna happen. :P

Anyway, has anyone heard about how charm tables work in this game? Apparently, instead of the charms you get being randomized every time you start your file up again, here you get one table set when you start a new game for the rest of your file. This wouldn't be so bad if some of the tables didn't really suck, but some of them just do, and apparently on two of them you can't even get rustshards(which are essential to get some weapons and equipment)!

It doesn't seem to be too hard to go for a particular table though, this should help:
