What vectoring program should I use?

I want to start making vector art of ponies (why else would I be in this forum ). However I am not sure what program I should be using (or which is best for me).

 

Some things to consider about me...

 

-I don't have a tablet however later this year I might get one.

-I'll probably be utilizing a mouse or drawing a lot of the time.

-Price is no object (software wise) because when it comes down to it we all can probably figure how to *cough* acquire *cough* a copy.

I use Ponyscape and it is amazing! I used Inkscape before it and it was good, but Ponyscape has features and tools that make it so much easier to do ponies. Check out some of my work. Most of it done with Ponyscape. Link

If you're planning on making show-like vectors then stick with Inkscape/Ponyscape, though it doesn't really matter since they all offer the same thing, it's just those small things in a program that makes it somewhat better. As long as you're comfortable with what you enjoy using, stick with it.

Well I want to keep it close to the show original style. However I am more used to Photoshop then anything else. Is photoshop good for what I want to do (like make vectors of Scootaloo) or would I be better off getting acquainted with Inkscape (or Ponyscape).

Photoshop is the way to go since you're used to it. Getting used to another program could be a pain sometimes, so just stick with Photoshop.

Welp. I think I'll try following this guide...

 

and see if I can't make Twilight within Photoshop. The guide seems simple enough - however I don't know how well this will turn out using a mouse.

Why is ponyscape and inkscape in the same poll? Ponyscape IS inkscape but updated with some new features. So it's the same thing as inkscape but has a few more features.

 

so yeah use inkscape or ponyscape

 

Also, gimp and photoshop aren't good for vectoring. It's usually against Adobe Illustrator and Inkscape/Ponyscape

That's why I just draw them instead of having to go through the dumb process of vectorizing a pony, though you'll have to spend a lot more time coloring it in..

Using the computer seems a lot easier (imo) because I can save my work or revert changes instantly. Does anyone know of any good tutorials for Ponyscape?

I'm going to go off on a tangent here and recommend Illustrator, because that's what I use

 

If you are used to Photoshop, learning how to use Illustrator should be easy because there are many similar tools you can use. Also, the pencil tool in Illustrator is very smart, and extremely customizable. Once you get used to it and learn how to use it properly, you can make the most minute of adjustments without ever having to erase a line again

 

Of course, Inkscape is not a bad alternative if you're looking for freestuff. But I must admit, I have not heard of Ponyscape up until now, and now that you've mentioned it, I'm very curious about it.... will probably find some time during the weekend to give it a try

Well after discussing the topic with Azura (in PM) I decided that I'd be better off doing my art by hand and then later on moving on to digital art. 

 

Here is my first attempt at Twilight Sparkle - it looks rather pathetic, but it is progress.
