What exactly defines "Fan music"?

I've been making music for a while now, and with the upcoming arrival of Pony.fm, I've been eager about finally being able to upload music somewhere. However, I've been into MLP fan music for a little bit now, and have been interested in making my own. However, I can't quite put my finger on what makes fan music what it is.

 

What is the defining aspect of Fan Music. What makes it "Fab music" exactly?

Fan music is, put simply, any music created by MLP fans either in relation to the show, or in the spirit of the show.

So whether its a song about kindness, or even just a ponystep song... Its fan music...

Well in my eyes fan music is music made by a MLP fan that is dedicated to MLP in some way, or even possibly themed as an MLP type song. Or maybe even the lyrics are dedicated to a character or aspect of the show.

 

Thats my definition, I think its pretty solid more or less. As long as the inspiration or the lyrics are MLP related.
