So I'm sure most of us are aware that Ashleigh Ball (voice actress for Applejack and Rainbow Dash) is in an Indie band called Hey Ocean, but in case you havn't heard: Ashleigh Ball is in an Indie band called Hey Ocean.

 

Hey Ocean has enjoyed modest success and generally favorable reviews by brony and non-brony critics alike. Hey Ocean themselves seem to be very pro-brony, and I don't think even they deny that MLP has really helped get their name out there.

 

Now it was hard for me to approach this band when I first heard of them because I already had a ton of preconceptions and bias in favor of Ashleigh Ball, and if there's one thing I really try to approach as neutrally as possible its music. This proved impossible with Hey Ocean beacuse no matter what, everytime I hear Ashleigh sing I hear Rainbow Dash and Applejack. And even though I love hearing Rainbow Dash and Applejack sing, it just left me with this nagging feeling that I'm only liking this band because I'm a brony. Eventually though I came to the conclusion that I do indeed like this band with or without the existance of MLP. True I wouldn't have spent time watching their videos without MLP, but, ehh.

 

To be honest though, I do think its fun to think of Rainbow Dash and Applejack singing a lot of these songs. No the songs don't really fit them... and yet at the same time... they kind of do... deeper down inside. Like this song for example, I tend to think of Rainbow Dash laying on a cloud and thinking of Soarin, and if someone overheard her singing like this she would totally deny it... yeah I'm corny like that.

I LOVEEEEEE HEY OCEAN! I am planning on going to her concert in Atlanta this weekend! Hey Ocean! is for sure one of my favorite bands....and honestly...I would have never found them if it weren't for MLP

Hay ocean is not my cup of tea. They are quite talented dont get me wrong.
As far as finding out about other genres from with in an already established interest is concerned. It is half the fun off life
 and its where most your interests are born.

Its a good band but I dont see my self geting into too much,

 

and dont get me wrong, I think Ashleigh Ball is amazing and talented.

It's just that while they have some good songs like Island which I really enjoyed, some of their other songs fall in the ok category.

For anyone who loves it, thats awesome, but for me it's just ok.

I checked out the band, and to be honest, really not my style. And i really love Ashleigh Ball, shes so talented and id say shes an idol of mine.

However, I actually do love the song Big Blue Wave right now, that ones catchy and Ashleigh sings beautifully in that one. But apart from that, I haven't found any of their songs that really appeal to me :/

And WHY IN EARTH is Big Blue Wave the ONLY song that isn't on iTunes but google play?!? ARGH!

There's a Carl's Jr. that I frequent which plays one of Hey Ocean!'s songs (Big Blue Wave) quite often on the TVs. I can't help but think of ponies when it's on haha

And also her band! I don't listen to their music all the time, but I feel like any album of theirs would perfectly suit a day of laying outside on the beach/in the grass. So relaxing and blissful.

Get A New Dance Up is one of those happy good lucky type indie pop rock songs, I love it!!

 

Its definitely going to be a part of my summer playlist
