Finally watched "Double Rainboom". Boy, oh boy - that was one excellent piece of work.

It could use less jokes and references, though

And what's that thing in your avatar anyway? The neat symbol on its forehead. I've been wondering

What would you have preferred? Personally, I liked the jokes and references. Every reference I got made me feel prouder of myself.

The thing in my avatar is the symbol for a god I invented in my fantasy world. There are ten in all, and each has a symbol associated with him or her. The god in my avatar is named Gessalt, and his symbol means "paradox". You have a straight arrow bisected with a circle, which turns the straight line at a 90 degree angle. The rest of the gods are in my signature.

I myself prefer original jokes or at least puns. Referring to older jokes from other materials over and over kinda kills the mood for me. Halfway watching DR I started to contemplate whether continuing would worth my time or not :z

At least it's not like that one old fanmade eps that have "too evil for me" or whatever line

That's... intriguing. At first I thought it was something like two intervened male sex symbols

Is this the same world from your piece earlier? Why ten gods and what's their function in the world? :o

Is that Calvin and Hobbes? I think I've seen one or two more like that with Twilight and Smarty Pants. I need to read more C&H now that I think about it.

I felt like there were enough original jokes, and for awhile it seemed like something that would make an actual episode. I guess I'm just easy to please. *shrugs*

Well those ten gods are not gods of the universe. They're part of an un-nameable species from beyond the known universe, called The Unknown. They have all sorts of names, but none of them are accurate, as their species existed before the invention of names. They're called all sorts of things though: Dark Things, Grinning Darkness, Voidtypes, Vagaries, but only the last one is somewhat accurate. Mostly they just hang around the Unknown, but the most powerful ones can enter the known universe. Only ten of them have done this, and those are the ten that show up in my signature.

As for the symbology, an arrow can denote one of several things: the flow of energy, the movement of ideas, order emerging from chaos, or order descending into chaos. It all depends on what direction the arrow is moving and the accompanying symbols. Circles work the same way in that they can represent multiple things: perpetual motion, time, circular logic, life and death, fate, etc.

The universe thing is complicated. I have one world where no magic or anything else all that fantastical exists. That's my steampunk world, though that only happens in modern times. This world has multiple cultures who each have their own religions. A lot of the religions are based on or incorporate a lot of mythology. The religion of one country, Osterrland, is called Acclesiism, and that religion's mythology speaks a lot about the universe being split into several layers: Goss (the mortal world and the name of the planet), Aether (outer space and the planets therein), and Heaven (the realm of the Acclesian gods and the angels), with the Unknown beyond Heaven. My fantasy world is basically this mythological universe. I haven't yet decided if it should be real or not.

It was just created for a project on my old forum called "Divine Text Adventure" that had a format modeled like old text adventure games, where users would make a command suggestion, and I'd have the characters follow the commands (to an extent) to advance the story. I may do something similar here.

Hm... Do you think it's possible that Equestria has a Steampunk-level technology? Powered with a combination of steam and magic.

Not the bodily augmentation, mind you, but more like some cars or maybe boats.

Yes you should. C&H is good for your soul :3

These ten Vagaries... So, they are almost like planewalkers that are capable to shift through and between the Known worlds?

The way those symbols work might be a tad confusing, since some of these 'gods' have similar markings but with different directions. I guess they don't really have any certain role in the worlds?

The layered worlds sounds great. It kinda implies that in the beginning there is only one layer, but something cataclysmic separated them.

And on the CYOA style game, I don't think it can last long in this forum. There have been some CYOA threads in the past, but they either got swamped by ridiculous posts or absolutely abandoned :x

If you want to start it, better put the thread in Forum Lounge, away from the Forum Games

Technology in Equestria is confusing in my opinion. On one hand, it seems pretty agrarian, where ponies are astounded by automation like the Super Cider Squeezy 6000, but on the other hand Twilight owns electronic research equipment that looks like it came out of the 1960's. Technology is just all over the place, so I wouldn't discount the existence of steampunk technology. We know there are airships, and you can't have proper steampunk without airships!

The Vagaries can walk through realms of existence, but that doesn't define them. I'd think that a planeswalker is unique just for its ability to effortlessly stride other realms, but the Vagaries can only partially do that. For example, one of them could open a portal from the Unknown to the Aether or use the Unknown to fold space and travel greater distances through the Aether, but Heaven has too much security to allow any of them to enter any of Heaven's worlds. Also in this universe, there is no Goss. Aether is the closest thing to a mortal realm, though there are immortal beings that live there.

The symbols are meant to look confusing and esoteric. Technically if the world was real, then they would all have proper, definable meanings, but each symbol could also, by itself, have a near infinite number of alternate meanings. The point of it all is to create a sense of complexity, though several of the Vagaries' symbols do have very explainable meanings. Also the symbol doesn't define who the god is and how he/she acts. It's just a sort of holistic stamp that they adopt so they can exist in the Universe. In the Unknown they have no names, but they have to adopt a Name and Form in order to exist in the Universe, where all beings need some kind of anchor in Creation. The Name is the body, and the Form is the soul. Naturally though, each Vagary's name is something of an uncertainty as each god is capable of changing shapes. The Form encapsulates their personalities, and while their symbols (the literal shape their soul takes) have one, solid shape, it's loose enough that they can have multidimensional personalities.

Also, you're very perceptive about the Universe's creation. In the beginning the only thing that existed was the Unknown, where all possible events all occur at once, like an omniverse with no walls. In this state, there is no permanency because once something happens, something else happens to counteract it. It's a state of absolute chaos. Then, out of nowhere comes the first god, Gevarr, who invented the idea of Creation by taking the idea of Uncertainty and dividing it by Zero. The resulting equation produced two quotients: Chaos (represented by an upward arrow) and Creation (a downward arrow). He used Creation as both a spear to cut a hole in the unknown, and a straw to blow a bubble. That bubble became Heaven, the first stable realm where things could be created. When he did so, he infringed upon a gradient of the Unknown that was ruled over by the Elder Gods (and Vagaries) named Ippsith and Aasith. Their realm, known as Vorrsith was still teeming with chaos, so Gevarr and his angel children went to war with the two gods and in order to defeat them, cut into Vorrsith so deep that a piece of it was torn asunder. Weakened by the blow to their realm the brother and sister gods were yanked up by the army of angels and thrown back into the Unknown after which the angels colonized their new realm. Gevarr then expanded Heaven from the center while simultaneously keeping Heaven as the wall bordering the Unknown. In this fashion, the Aether was formed. Heaven though is both the Universe's border and its center. Gevarr accomplished this by using Impossibility Logic (magic) to form the Universe's inverse structure, where in order to travel outward, you need to travel inward.

Too bad most of bronies never really see the ponies as an equal :z

Thats a shame. Why keep such an awesome thing as a pet? I mean, if it wanted to be kept like that, then fine. But otherwise, Id have them as friends.

Also it's worth mentioning that there are two levels of Heaven: Axial Heaven and Peripheral Heaven. Axial Heaven is the center of the Universe where only the gods live. Peripheral Heaven is the realm of angels.

I won't be surprised if there is an actual thinking brain in this thing. Its thoughts clicking in tandem, forever to serve the Imperium by helping His ship afloat in the void.

@, That's... holy. I see you've been building this world for a long time. It's quite complicated but everything is woven nicely :o

Using names as an requirement to exist in the Creation... *whistles*
