Welp, it is interesting after all, very unlike some generic fiction worlds from a lot of small-time writers out there, you actually have the entire lore ready to be explored.

Fox and Heron takes place in the steampunk world a few centuries before the present. It involves the neighboring nations of Osterrland and Midland, the latter of which is fighting its second war for independence. Both of the titular characters are ancestors of two present day characters. I wish I could buckle down and write more, specifically about the present day characters, but I have major anxiety and confidence issues that prevent me from doing a lot of things. I feel so very hopeless and doomed at times.

Well Midland is kind of a confusing affair. See, Midland is the name given by Osterrland to a whole bunch of states; some of which are independent, and others aren't. Midlanders refer to the collection of states as Mullandt which just translates to the Middle Lands, referring to the actual stretch of land rather than the entirety of the states under one flag. Originally, there were the Midland states and the Osterran states until the ruler of one Osterran state mounted a war of unification, making all the Osterran states and several Midland states into a single Kingdom of Osterrland. For the first two centuries the only conflicts were border wars between single, feudal rulers. There was even a Midland Dynasty of Osterran kings, which resulted from the daughter of one Osterran king marrying into a Midlander noble house. Eventually though, an Osterran king claimed that his family held a claim to the crown of Rook, the wealthiest of the Midland states. This gave Osterrland an excuse to start a war and march to Rook and depose the current royal family. Of course this meant marching straight into the heart of Midland, conquering every state on the path. Osterrland won the war, and the current Osterran king "unified" the Midland states into a single vassal nation. Many of the states had small militaries, and others had been too bloodied in the war to fight back, so Midland was considered unified and conquered. A century and a half later, a plague swept through western and central Midland, and a revolutionary group began using the lack of Osterran relief work as an excuse to drum up a lot of anti-Osterran sentiment. The cause became large enough that riots eventually formed in the streets of Rook, and the palace was stormed, leading to the execution of the current king. He was replaced with a revolutionary government that quickly began preparing for war against Osterrland. Border states invaded Osterrland to the east and south, but Osterrland's largest armies attacked from the northwest and hit Rook hard, restoring a member of the royal family to the throne and stamping out what was left of the revolution. This second revolution occurs around four centuries later under a similar banner, though this time the cause was over-taxation, racist immigration policies, and the murder of several Midlander families by the police in a slum of Osterrland's capital city of Vitker.

That's an excellent sketch! The dimensions look right on the mark, and it's still stylized enough to not look like it was copied.

Everybody starts off using bases, proportions are hard. In fact, proportions are still hard.

 

 

Hair is hard, t-shirts are hard

 

Socks are easier, but t-shirts get harder the more folds you put into them.
