I just watched the trailer for the new Pixar movie Planes. I think it's laughable (from a realism standpoint) that a plane could actually try and compete in an air race, and genuinely think he has a chance at winning despite being an underdog. In reality, hardware beats motivation every time, when you're trying to go fast. It doesn't matter how much you want to win. A sit-down lawnmower would never win a race against a Ferarri, so the movie is already sunk from my technical point of view. Story-wise, it seems to be another Disney underdog story with Pixar's clever humour, so I don't really see the point in the movie apart from something Disney obliged them to make for the sake of a contract and probably little else.
