Well, it's probably more accurate. The protagonist always seems to be so good at everything. Ash is more of a real life character.

One gym leader sent out a water/flying pokemon.

 

Ash had Pikachu out.

 

Gym leader uses Water Veil, which, is technically a current of water that protects the enemy. In the game, it just heals you a little every turn, thats it.

 

Ash uses some electric move.

 

The move is completely blocked because lawlPokemon the anime.
