Critical Thinking on “Stan”By Eminem (Ft. Dido)

There are many songs that show how society is. I feel that in today's society, that many people are way too obsessed with their favorite Artist/Celebrities. Many people seem to devote their entire lives to them and it gets to a certain point with some people that it becomes extremely creepy. I feel that this song, Stan By Eminem, displays that perfectly.

 

In the song it displays a fan writing to his favorite rapper, Eminem. It starts out with a normal letter that is reasonable, comparatively. He is a good fan who just wants to be able to contact his idol. Then he gets into an overly obsessed mode with being mad at things that are just mistakes that could and will happen in huge crowds. Then at Stan's third letter he is completely insane and decides to kill him self and his pregnant girlfriend because he didn't hear back. He tries to guilt trip him into feeling horrible about not writing back. These may seem like hyperbole but, sadly in today's society, it is very possible and happens. The song shows how we are way too obsessed with the lives and everything about them. It's sad that there are people who would end their lives because of someone not responding to them, when they are not being patient about simple things. It also shows how people are way too willing to jump the gin and end their lives over trivial things. If Stan didn't kill himself then he would have gotten what he wanted all along.

 

In conclusion we as a society should not go and try to be in the middle of the lives of people who we don't know that we decide to obsess over. We also need people to be able to talk about their feelings before they get to a horrible point in their lives to where they want to end it. Stan is the perfect example of many fans of celebrities who wouldn't think of anything else but said celebrities. Many people have to just ease up on what they are fans of for their own sanity's sake.

 

Not bad for about an Hour with me stalking the forums at the same time.
