Bass was a lot of fun too. Hell, snare, bass and quads are all fun. I just have the most fun on quads.

T'was heavy though. My first year I played bass 3 normally (out of the 5 we had... 5 being the largest), but I got to play 5 for awhile during a parade we marched in, and I nearly died. My arms and back hurt like a bitch afterwards. Probably wouldn't have been as bad if I wasn't so goddamn scrawny, but yeah.

I'm exactly the same. Although, it's more of my friends forcing me to go places, instead of me wanting to go. Meh.

Man I so freaking wish I had started band when I first had the chance. ;-;

I'm sure you get used to it after a while though......right?

I'd have to work out to actually hold the biggest for a whole show. That shit is just cray. And I'm pretty small myself, so don't feel bad.

lol I can usually avoid any attempt of force by saying I have no gas or money of which to buy more gas with. That and most of mine don't try too hard to force me. Nothing more than attempting to make me feel bad for no going.

Challenge is always fun. Though, I also would have loved to play a bass drum, preferably the biggest one, just because the bassy sounds are music to my ears.

Though, I don't know if I could have actually held it up all that time or not...

I'm also an introvert. I normally don't care for going out. That has changed just a little, but I still don't like talking to new people at all. So while that still hasn't changed at all, I have started getting out a little more.

i actually wanted a drumset for the longest time before. back in 6th grade, we had music class, and i developed a sort of affection for the drums. for years, i wanted to get drums of my own, but we never had the money, or the place, to keep it anywhere. so it was put on hold, and never ever happened... i still want to get drums, but that has to wait for another time when i can get one somewhere, i guess...

i guess i'm an introvert, too, when i look up at what it means. mine's somewhat extreme: i'm very timid, shy and awkward, i have trouble speaking, thinks the best when i am for myself here, don't like looking people in the eye, cannot stand public embarrassment, is very slow at 'getting' things, and often ask people to repeat what they mean til i do get it... the list goes on.

Sometimes I regret not starting earlier... I joined sophomore year. Kinda wished I had joined 8th grade.

Maybe if I played bass 5 on a somewhat normal basis. That was the first time I had ever marched with it for an extended period of time. I was about to keel over dead after that parade. I think 5 weighs about 40-45 lbs.

I've made up so many bullshit excuses to not go out somewhere, it's not even funny.

You should totes find a way to get a drumset. It's so awesome.

And goddamn, you're exactly like me. I've experienced all of those feels.

Drums are crazy fun. Set and snares. Its actually quite a surprise that I play them considering how lazy I am. The guy who would and could literally sleep through every single class if he wanted to does something as energetic as the drums....thats just bucking unheard of. If you can afford them, but still don't have space you could always get like an shed outside and put them in there. I want to do that so I can get more cymbals cause my room is horribly small. well, too small for a full drum set to fit in and have decent walking room.

I'm pretty damn shy as well, but it can also depend on who I'm with or around. I won't be as energetic and random around new people unless my friends outnumber them. If my friends are around then I may not even change at all. I don't think I'm that awkward, but I can't tell myself.

Thinking of speaking, I never liked asking teachers for help during class. I may do it after, but even then it was kinda rare. Of course if I was used to the people in there I could easily, but too many I don't know well enough or in a higher grade than me and I would keep quiet most of the time.

I don't know how well I am at speaking with others, cause I usually try and avoid it most of the time. If I know what is being talked about I may chime in a little.

I don't mind eye contact, but I do hate staring at or in the general direction of someone not teaching or purposely getting my attention. Hot chick over there? Quick glances back and forth. Make eye contact? Turn back forward and freeze.

I don't think too many like it to begin with. I don't care for it much either.

I can't say how well I pick up on things others are talking about. Can't remember any situation where I was just not understanding what someone was getting at.

lol I usually just give up and say I have no idea if I can't understand something for too long.

A string player? As in like guitars, or violins? Because I wish I could play the violin. What gave you that impression anyway?

Yeah, like you would play something from the violin group (I know it has a name, but I can't remember it). As for what gave me the impression..well..I dunno. I think you're a pretty calm, collected person. I see you more of the type to play a violin or cello, than a percussion instrument, which usually represents a more carefree, happy-go-lucky, hyperactive personality, in my opinion.

I see your reasoning, but I guess I just break that stereotype.

Most of the people I know IRL that are drummers are very hyperactive people, so the stereotype has a lot of truth behind it still.

Damn. All that weight plus the marching...Fuck. That. For now, I'll come back to it later when I'm stronger.

Ha! I just use one half the time or just straight up say I don't want to for whatever reason.

Aah, I did not know that.

Scratch that whole idea.

I know that feel. I practice drums, but only because I go to classes where they have their own drum sets. I CAN'T have them on my own. My house (in a flat) wouldn't allow me too, because of space and sound ( I don't want neighbors to sue me  ). But I at least have the chance to once a week, an hour a week, play the drums and go crazy on them while learning stuff with my teacher. It's quite great for me. Maybe you could find a place that taught you and gave you a drum set to play with. :)

I wish started playing drums before too. I started 2 and a half years ago, when I was 16...now...I wish I had started WAY earlier. :( But at least I started and that's what matters. :)

Pfffffft, you'd be surprised. I'm pretty lazy too, but the problem is, when I'm not lazy, I'm hella energetic and hyperactive. I'm one of those guys who uses all of his energy as quick as I can for maximum entertainment (which is why I love running, hate walking, and can't do marathons ^_^ ). Hence why the drum set is PERFECT for me. Although you're lucky you have your own drum set. I literally CAN'T have one. :( At least the place where they teach me and stuff has drum sets that I can use for practice and to play them myself (of course, for the extra practice, I have to pay, so I don't go that often).

I don't know if I'm an introvert or not. All I know is that for me to go and meet new people is...somewhat difficult. However, to those I already know, I'm much more energetic, and happy-go-lucky (though when the theme suddenly turns into something I have no idea of, like it happens WAY too many times, I tend to go silent and "blend" in).I'm not that social, but you'll realize when I have met someone, and when I have not.

Thinking of speaking, I never liked asking teachers for help during class. I may do it after, but even then it was kinda rare.

This. So much this. I never EVER liked asking the teachers for assistance, but that's more of a different reason. One of the things I have in common with Applejack is that, asking help to teachers was weird because I felt like I KNEW I could do it by myself. In college, this ended in many times me killing my head because I couldn't solve things. I'm just that stubborn, as I normally am.

Yeah. I don't LIKE basing myself off on stereotypes, but I gues in instruments I let go a bit. Although truth is, there are too types of drummers. The one I mentioned, and the ones that like staying behind, since most of the times, the drummer is the one in the back of the band and isn't normally seen by the others, who are usually more focused in the guitarist or the vocalist, who are usually the frontpeople (this probably wouldn't apply in cases like small bands, fo example, Rush, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Muse, The White Stripes, which are 3, 3, 3 and 2, respectively).

well, there is music class in my school, but it wasn't a subject i could add because it belonged to the art student line. i should have chosen the art line long before... now it's too late to change.

Drums are loud and take up a decent amount of space. Soundproof room, basement, or garage needed. I used to play the bass and I want to get back into it later on. I enjoyed that instrument a lot, and I didn't have the dexterity for playing the guitar.

Fantastic! <3

I'd do the same if I could draw humans.

Though, maybe with an old yoshi character of mine? I'll think about it.

I mean, isn't there a separate place where they teach music that you could go, that a drum set you could use to learn and practice?

Who says you don't need dexterity to play the bass?

I should requote myself, I have tiny useless pinkies that are impossible to use when playing guitar. It's somewhat easier to grasp the bass using just 4 fingers on the strumming hand.

I can get really bucking energetic in the right crowd or just having a good time with friends on Xbox Live. I guess I still fall under the hyper-active drummers then...Weird.

i have absolutely no idea, and don't know if it'd be of use to me, either, since if it teaches me that instrument, it has to teach me the others. and i cannot. play. guitar. at. all. keyboard, maybe, but all those chords and stuff i'd learn there would be useless in music production. singing i guess would be a good thing to learn, but i'm the most awkward singer ever. :I

Why is that?

I like having the sound of my rockitude blasting down the walls and giving headaches to my family.

I don't like making a lot of racket, even if my family's used to it (my dad's a guitarist and a self-taught electrician, so he's always testing out some new pedal or amp to hook to his guitar).

I dunno. I guess I shouldn't care so much...

.....

You can fucking do that?

I sort of want one now...

Of course, that's part of the reason why they're so popular. You can jam without pissing off other people.

You'd be surprised. I play drums in a small place close to my house (I actually got lucky on that regard), and that's all I play. There isn't a need for me to play the rest of the instruments. See if you can find a place where, while capable of teaching all the instruments, you have the option to just play one of them.

I should requote myself, I have tiny useless pinkies that are impossible to use when playing guitar. It's somewhat easier to grasp the bass using just 4 fingers on the strumming hand.

Huh...I thought that, since the bass has stronger, wider chords, you'd need more strength to play them?

I can get really bucking energetic in the right crowd or just having a good time with friends on Xbox Live. I guess I still fall under the hyper-active drummers then...Weird.

Eeyup! :P Being lazy doesn't automatically break the stereotype because, if you can be almost as hyperactive as Pinkie, then that's something that falls in, even if not every single moment. ^_^
