Long story short, NTG:11 was hyped and failed, NTG:IL was hyped, will probably fail.

 

Overly hyped games almost always turn out crap.

Dead Island had about a million tons of hype surrounding it, but I don't think it delivered.

Developers should take a page out of Rockstar's book and focus as much time as possible into making the game as great as it can possibly be.

Mmm, I don't know about Valve. They used to be awesome, but now all they seem to be about is trying to force memes into their games trying to hit success with them again, like "The cake is a lie".

 

Take Portal 2 for example. The attempted (and some successful) forced memes include.... Combustible lemons, practically Wheatley's entire existence, crows, potatoes, Cave Johnson (tell me his lines aren't internet disease meme-fuel), turret opera, I could go on and on, and I haven't even mentioned TF2...

I got my moneys worth out of Portal(s).

 

And TF2 is solid shooter with a progression system.

@@Typhoid Libby, not saying TF2 or Portal are bad. Hell, I've got over 1,200 hours in TF2. Sure, a chunk of that is idling, but still. I've played all the Half-Life games (except Decay, which I do not own), and enjoyed them thoroughly. I'm just saying that Valve would appear to be going downhill. :/

If they do a third Left 4 Dead (Valve would never make a game with 3 in the title) then the characters need to know what's going on.

I honestly can see that happening. Steam makes them more than their games ever have.

 

I agree with you on the indie thing. So-called "AAA" games these days don't have the heart that indie games have. It's like comparing Cave Story to Call of Duty (I know, generic CoD bashing), or The Binding of Isaac to Battlefield [number here]. You just can't do it because indie games are developed by small teams who take the time to flesh things out and put the things they want in the game, while "AAA" games are developed by large groups who have fat cats breathing down their neck telling them to keep the game generic so it will sell.

It's a "shoot zombies" game that will cost about 20 bucks and is more or less a DLC.

Storyline. Pffft.

Who cares.

You shoot zombies, character development will just finder that "shooting zombies with friends" thing.
