On the ending...

So Equestria Girls?

Well, EG was a lot better than what most of us thought. Turns out it was more or less a "you can't be a human" story than stupid high school drama. The music was too popish, but for what it was, it served it's purpose. Plus we shifted from either being neutral or hating it to being either neutral or liking it. Now the ultimate hate for the movie is simply ignoring it while focusing on the show, and I think that's great.

Anyway, the thing that sucked them most about the film was the ending. You can tell it was rushed. First off, the whole fight against Shimmer and Snips and Snails was barely 5 minutes long and it just came out of nowhere. Don't get me wrong, I was very happy that Snips and Snails got a huge role and I think SS turning into a hellspawn was kinda cool. However, the fight was too abrupt and ended too quickly.

Plus, there was no point in the whole transformation thing. All human-pony hybrids were too uncanny valley and not to mention served no purpose to the plot. Why did they need to transform in those mutants when they could just use the elements as humans?

Now a lot of you say the redemption and punishment of SS was stupid. I disagree on this a bit. Think about it, if SS's and the Mane 6's actions were leaked, they would be put in prison, interrogated for nearly destroying two dimensions, executed and the humans would likely invade Equestria in retaliation. The humans would likely win considering the other elements and the princesses were crowded in one room and have no idea how guns work. Slave labour is suitable.

Then there's the dance. It was stupid and OOC of Twilight to go to the party while she was running out of time. Also the good bye to the human Mane 6 was too short.

But what bothers me the most is how there will be no long term effects discussed in the film. Twilight won't remember anything about the humans and coupled with the horrible good bye, will drop them off like a rock. FS and SS won't appear and even though they were too generic, they had potential to be developed and make their haters like them. Even if they had a few haters anyway.

Fine film, horrible ending.

I didn't mind the ending. To me, it was pretty good. Although I have to agree that the fight with Demon Sunset Shimmer was rushed. But keep in mind the target audience.

The ending wasn't that bad. You're right, the hellspawn were cool. However, personally, think about it this way:

In a universe where friendship is literally magic, a united Equestria could easily defeat a warring and unfriendly society of humans.

Plus, don't forget Discord, Chrysalis, the princesses, and the Crystal Heart. The ponies would easily win.

You're right though about another thing: Snip and Snap do belong in jail or in the electric chair.

I really liked the ending, despite it being a bit abrupt. It was a nice little throwback to the original episodes with Nightmare Moon and I did find Demon Shimmer to be badass, but that is just my opinion. I especially loved that Twilight actually started to become accustomed to her wings and her crown.

If there was one major thing that bugs me about the ending, it is that the film is apparently not canon to FiM itself. At the very least, I want that attitude that Twilight had at the end to carry over into season 4 somehow.

Beyond that, I really liked the ending. The part after Shimmer was defeated was really sad in my opinion. I actually did feel bad for her despite what she had done.

I completely disagree, for the type of film it was perfect length and personally I didn't expect it to end like this at all. I thought it was over once twilight had gotten the crown.

The ending was great, it just all fitted nicely and meant that it didn't screw over the rest of the show much if at all.

Plus, there was no point in the whole transformation thing. All human-pony hybrids were too uncanny valley and not to mention served no purpose to the plot. Why did they need to transform in those mutants when they could just use the elements as humans?

I felt like this was a nice touch, yes it was a bit odd, but it kinda gave the impression that the universes are not are different as they seem (which is the point, showing that friendship is magic in RL and not just in equestria) and that in some way they may be heavily related or (as I thought might happen) it actually turns out that they all went into the portal without twi realising.

I actually thought the ending to Equestria Girls was pretty good! Much better than I was expecting anyway. Sunset Shimmer's redemption felt a little forced to me, but that's all right. Twilight getting more used to her wings and crown is good, whether I like it or not. Snips and Snails should have been thrown in jail after that, but whatever.

The only thing I really didn't like was the love interest. I hope to God we never see Brad (I refuse to call him Flash Sentry or whatever the heck his name is) in FiM. Ever. Bye bye Brad. Go away. We don't need Twilight having a boyfriend, please.

Other than that, I loved the movie as a whole. It was really funny that they kept giving Vinyl screen time. It was like, "Not enjoying the movie? Here, have some Vinyl!"

Also, the humor was excellent. Both Pinkie Pies were great, especially when the human one just blurted out "You're actually a pony princess from an alternate dimension..." ect, ect. That was great. But my favorite part HAD to be when Trixie was given lines.

In a universe where friendship is literally magic, a united Equestria could easily defeat a warring and unfriendly society of humans.

Remember, the other main pony characters were crowded in a room for what seemed to be a few hours, distracted by Twilight's ordeal. The humans would enter the room where the other main pony characters are waiting, take them by surprise, use their ignorance of humans and guns against them, and shoot them before they could react.

As a result, Equestria would be defenseless.

Plus, Discord would love us chaotic humans and the population of Equestria is implied to be somewhere in the hundred million mark, making them outnumbered.

That was my gripe with the ending as well, much too rushed. Well, not the ending-ending per se, but the climactic showdown with Sunset was definitely anticlimactic IMO. Really, it amounted to little more than "With our powers combined, I am CAPTAIN PLANET!", then boom, blast 'er with a rainbow tornado. Game over, let's go home.

I just felt the final fight could've been so much more than that, given that it was supposed to be the pinnacle of the entire movie. We got an epic battle in Canterlot Wedding, so why not here? It's not as though Sunset transforming into a slavering demon with an army of (*sigh*) teenage zombie drones didn't merit some sort of epic final encounter.

On that note, the rushed nature of that encounter didn't make the movie bad or anything, and if my complaint sounds like a nitpick...well, it kind of is. I'm just saying, though, it could definitely have been grander. Had it been, I could easily overlook any of the movie's other flaws and regard the overall experience as "awesome" as opposed to okay/pretty good.

As for the rest of the ending, I did feel it was a little messed up how the hu-Mane 5 were just kind of left behind in a "Well, goodbye forever!" kind of way. I know it kind of had to be that way, but I'd have expected a bit more of an emotional goodbye, at the very least. I think Pinkie's line of "Aw, bummer!" kind of summed up the lack of emotion I felt during that moment, but eh. They've got Sunset now...I guess their endeavor to show her the meaning of friendship will be an adventure all its own.

That's true, but the main characters aren't going to stand around long enough for the human world to compose an army - supposing humans were snide, evil creatures who hate ponies and waltz into rooms and shoot whatever fun-loving magical unicorns and pegasi they see.

Also, though what you say about Discord may be true, but Chrysalis would certainly be opposed to it, and Changelings could tear human society apart, theoretically.

Not sure where you found your population numbers, but you do have several interesting and valid points.

Equestria is implied to resemble a more or less medieval society where the population of a nation was around the hundred million mark. Also I don't think changelings could imitate humans considering we are bi-pedal and we're clothed most of the time.

Furthermore, what seemed to be a month on Earth seemed to be an hour in Equestria. It would take humans, or at least just the nation Twilight was in, a few weeks or so to mobilise an army considering aliens were involved.
